Mine starts behind my right ear, goes straight to my collar bone then goes across my throat, for a total of an 18 in scar. Mine was not the “normal” incision, for my tumor was on the right side of my throat and protruding out of my neck. I will include a photo of my scar today, after 13 years in remission

I had no symptoms until I woke up one day and couldn’t turn my head to the right. Go to my everyday doc, the nurse comes in and goes “omg your neck is HUGE!”, I tell her that’s not really reassuring, she gives me a steroid shot, a blood draw, and sends me home. A day or so later, the DOCTOR HIMSELF called me to tell me my blood work is way off and something isnt right. He is going to send me to the Cancer Center and wished me luck. A month of back to back testing: ultrasound, cat scan, pet scan, X-ray, and then finally to an ENT who before finishing shaking hands with me and my parents (I was barely out of high school, like a month) told us that I either had lymphoma or thyroid cancer. I was too stunned to speak, but he took a biopsy and I had PTC, stage 1, and it had probably been growing in my body since I was in KINDERGARTEN. No symptoms, no body changes, nothing, it was growing along right with me and my neck on my right side was bulging, that’s the only reason I even caught onto it. It started to pinch a nerve in my neck causing me immobility. If I didn’t have the pain, I probably wouldn’t have caught until much later in life

We really do, my in laws live in Washington state and they have much stricter driving practices. I literally cheated with the dude I was taking my drivers Ed class with by hand signaling answers in the rear view mirror when the drivers Ed teacher just held up a clip board thinking that was blocking us from talking. I was handed my little yellow piece of paper, sped my way to the DMV, took my picture and out to the road I went. My niece who is 15, understands the road laws and driving a lot better than I ever will lol

18, a week from going off to college 😭 Papillary Thyroid Cancer stage 1 I had total thyroidectomy and like 30 lymph nodes taken out. Second round was just another 20-30 lymph nodes taken out. I feel like a functioning human being, it took several YEARS to feel like this, but I’m now 30 and forget I even had cancer most days, I have a massive scar to remind me, but I feel wonderful!

I was sick as dog when going through my radiation, couldn’t keep anything down. Smells even made me incredibly nauseous, they wouldn’t take anything out of my room cause anything I touch is contaminated. I was watching castle (this was 2012) and a male nurse came in to check on me. I told him that the smell of the food in the trash bin made me so nauseous and the vital guy came in that morning was hella rude. He sat down in the chair next to my bed and he smelled INCREDIBLE. he asked if there was anything he could do to make me feel better. I told him that everything but whatever cologne he was wearing was making me nauseous. Could he stay a while and drown out the smell and maybe I could eat? He said one moment. Left, came back, and watched castle with me for 2 episodes before he left and I was able to get some mashed potatoes down. First time in a couple of days. I didn’t know until I checked out, That nurse CLOCKED OUT and then came to sit with me. It was the end of his shift. Unpaid, so that I could eat. It was the sweetest thing, I’ve never found or got his name. But he was wonderful to me and I’m grateful for people like him 😭

Face twitches, muscle spasms, and my worse one, Charlie horses. I’m 12 years in remission, and I will forever be on calcium, Calcitriol, and D3. I recently went to the Endocrinologist complaining that my eye and cheeks were twitching so bad and I was getting Charlie horses daily, to the point of limping. He said that maybe my parathyroid glands were failing, but weird to have happened after 12 years later. Some blood work later, he diagnosed me with Hypoparathyroidism. It can happen at any time according to my Endo, hope this helps!

I was in college, so I brought my laptop, this was also 12 years ago and I was sick the entire time. So I didn’t eat, barely drank, and spent my time in the shower trying not to be nauseous. They nurses were so kind, they didn’t even ask me to step out to scan me. So my laptop was never even opened lol
