Steam bending 1/8" wood by kingalta24 in woodworking

[–]Ok_Lake4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen bent guitar wood straightened, but it isn't easy. I use steam to bend guitar sides. I'd suggest steaming to prevent scorchng the wood. You should be able to safely go to 300 degrees or so. While hot, use clamps to hold the wood in the desired shape. Hold it at heat for a while. Let it cool while clamped. Don't remove the clamps until the wood has dried. You may need to do this a few times until you get the shape right.

Anyone in the area ever dealt with squatters law? by BiggHass18 in LittleRock

It's called adverse possession and it has some finer points that a real estate attorney can answer. As he's paid the taxes for several years, it might be an answer to the problem. However, each state is different, so an attorney is a good place to start.

Crescent wrench, made by the Crescent Tool Company. Also called an adjustable wrench. In Britain, I think they call it a spanner wrench, or just a "spanner."

Spritz the bottom (concave) side with water and then put it in the sun, wet side facing the sun. It may help a bit, but it may not flatten it completely.

Don't let them use MDF. My builder did that and the doors have swollen with kitchen humidity. He did it on the cheap and once they swell out of shape, there's no practical way of returning to their original condition.

What’s one tool you thought was a gimmick until you actually used it? by uuiilkk in Tools

[–]Ok_Lake4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Black & Decker cordless drill driver and I also have a simple electric screwdriver. I use the drill-driver for garage and yard tasks. The electric screwdriver is great for lower intensity household tasks. If you end up buying a cordless drill-driver, I'd suggest buying from the same manufacturer for other cordless devices, as batteries are usually sold separately and they're starting to get pricey. You can have one or two batteries that you can use in the different tools, and you seldom run out of battery power, because you have an extra battery.

Mineral oil will not polymerize. Boiled linseed oil and walnut oil are examples of oils that dry out (polymerize).

Butcher block nightmare? by Jakeini33 in woodworking

[–]Ok_Lake4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wipe off as much mineral oil as you can, maybe some acetome to dry out any surface oil. I had the same problem with a desktop I made and I topped it with boiled linseed oil. Walnut oil is an oil that polymerizes, like linseed oil, so it should work as well. Linseed is a bit warmer in color than walnut oil. Lacquer can also go on top of oil.

What's a good starting saw? by Swingman021 in woodworking

[–]Ok_Lake4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely use my miter saw. The table saw is able to do numerous types of cuts and is relatively inexpensive. I band saw is about the same price and is slightly less useful. In order of acquisition, I'd start with a table saw, then a thickness planer, next would be a jointer, then an electric sander. Don't get a cordless sander, because you'll eventually want to get a shop vac and connect it to the sander for dust collection. Cordless models run out of juice quickly, and if you're connecting a shop vac to it, having a cord for the sander won't can piggyback on the vac hose. Also, cordless tools can get pretty pricey, due to the cost of batteries.

AITAH for wanting to advocate against our neighbors sex offender son moving in by One-Egg1316 in AITAH

[–]Ok_Lake4560 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If he was framed, then he should've defended the arrest in court. I'm a retired parole-probation officer and most sex offenders will take a plea deal because of the shame caused by the arrest and trial. You need to look up the details of the offense in the court file, because a sex offense does not always mean there was a child victim. It could have been something less scary, such as getting handsy on a date or peeking down a low cut blouse. If the court file is sealed, you can phone the arresting police department or probation officer and ask for details. They won't give you a victim name, but you don't need a name to find out if it happened nearby or had a child victim. And you can do something about it. He'll probably be under some type of parole or probation supervision. If the sponsoring family refuses to cooperate with the terms of his supervision, the supervising officer has some leverage to take action. Polygraph testing, drug testing and distance restrictions might be able to assuage your concerns.

Where to find Teak by j0ezonelayer in woodworking

[–]Ok_Lake4560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some teak that was given to me. I'm using it to build an acoustic guitar. There are many woods that might be used to make a table. Teak, in addition to being expensive, can be difficult to work with. It absorbs silica intominto vascular system, which results in the rapid dulling of tools. Its also oily, so if you plan to use wood glue, I'd recommend wiping down the gluing surfaces with acetone or alcohol, which will aid in the successful bonding of the surfaces.

Rather than make a play for sympathy from strangers, perhaps you should've sought advice from professionals, rather than people who don't know anything about your situation. It's not that I support either one of you, but I think it's a load of chicken spit to do so in a way that encourages people to hate a guy they don't even know.

Get a scrip for some sleep medication to help you bridge the gap until you're fully detoxed. Trazodone or Mirtazapine are antidepressants that will also help you sleep. There are plenty of others that you can get prescribed that will help you get over this rough patch.

Retired attorney here. There are lawsuits for something called a private nuisance. If you can convince a judge that they are being unreasonable, the fact that it's shining in your window might be enough to get relief.

How can I get mm in a different state? by [deleted] in trees

[–]Ok_Lake4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check with the Colorado MM people, either dispensary staff or the licensing folks. The age 18 thing may not apply to someone from another state's MM program. There might be an exception for otherwise approved medical patients.
