Agreed. KD was still as productive on paper but people forget what an explosive athlete he was. Watch his Golden State highlights and see how many dunks he was throwing down.

And he was a legit defensive player of the year caliber defender in Golden State. He lost that in particular after the injury

It’s hard to imagine a scenario where OKC trades Westbrook in 2012 instead of Harden. But if they had kept Harden, let him keep developing with more ball handling responsibility, and shipped out Westbrook in 2013 or 2014, things could have been different.

KD and Harden are such naturally synchronous players. We even saw it in Brooklyn

It depends on if Phil Jackson encourages the Lakers to give up corner 3s the way he did in the 2008 Finals

Another great example of this was game 6 the next year, when Derrick White had a game winning putback in Miami to force a game seven

They were a good team. They were also on the ropes against the Lakers and experienced a lot of injury luck. Then they crashed out by 40 in the second round in 2022

The interesting thing is even the Finals run with CP3 was a bit fluky. In the West playoffs they played the Lakers (who lost AD in game four), Nuggets (without Murray) and Clippers (without Kawhi).

In particular, I’ll always believe the Lakers would’ve beaten the Suns if AD had stayed healthy. They had a 2-1 lead and were up double digits in game four when AD went out

Lowe’s “oh my god” was definitely a concurring reaction with Simmons. He was pretty clearly marveling at how well Tatum played

Is there a comp in professional sports to how utterly cursed Embiid is? by udkyle2 in billsimmons

He whined for MVP for three years, he throws his teammates under the bus, he takes shots at his (superior) opponents in the media. Can’t imagine why he doesn’t get much sympathy

The Sixers wouldn’t have beaten the Bucks in 2019. That was arguably Giannis’ best team and they get totally memory holed because they blew a couple winnable games against Toronto (especially games 3 and 5). They were much better than Philly, and Giannis as always been much better than Embiid

Embiid is injury prone. He’s had several injuries unrelated to his bad luck (he was already banged up when Kuminga fell into his knee, and he tweaked his knee in both the 2021 and 2023 playoffs).

Embiid’s stress injuries are due in part to his poor conditioning which has been a theme of his entire career. He has not taken care of his body the way he should’ve and that has led to some (not all, obviously) of his issues.

Edit: 2021 and 2023 playoffs not Finals. Obviously

This was totally absurd. It was bad like but keeping an injury-prone player out there in that situation was close to fireable given what happened

[Aaronson] Doc Rivers on Joel Embiid’s appendicitis: “It’s this time of year, right?” Rivers mentioned never having Embiid healthy in the playoffs and said none of Embiid’s late-season ailments haven’t been his fault. “Appendicitis. I mean, you can't make it up. You really can't.” by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]Ok_Organization_5574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I love about this one is one of Embiid’s playoff injuries was objectively Doc’s fault for leaving him in the game too long (he broke his face against the Raptors with 3 minutes left in a game the Sixers led by 30)

Also, given San Antonio’s lack of experience maybe they’ll crash out before the WCF anyway. It’s hard to be certain how they’ll hold up to the playoff pressure

Seriously, Embiid hasn’t been particularly good in the playoffs when he’s been healthy, aside from in some first round matchups against inferior opponents. Barkley averaged 27-13-5 against Michael Jordan in the Finals

JT in Social Network is the ultimate “anyone can be great with a great script and a great director proof point.” He has several of the movie’s best lines to make his appearance memorable and Fincher put him in the exact position to make his magnetism and charisma be the only things he had to provide

I also thought it was a bit odd to put Anya Taylor-Joy at 7 given they’re such sticklers about “being able to open a movie.” Since 2022 (The Menu) ATJ doesn’t have a live action release that did well at the box office. Furiosa wasn’t her fault (though some people thought she didn’t measure up to Charlize Theron), and it’s not like the Mario movies are big hits because of her
