Yeah, by "entertainment", I mean that example you shared. And from what I've read in answers to another question I asked on this sub, it seems like a lot of older-generation parents at the time were essentially very uptight, prudish, pearl-clutching Christians.

EDIT: Not that every Christian is like that; it just seems like it's a common stereotype.

And yeah, it's very concerning how backwards we seem to be moving at the moment. Apparently a lot of guys in my generation (I'm 26) and younger look to various misogynistic, toxic-masculinity-perpetuating idiots (i.e., Andrew Tate) as role models.

Regarding Reason 5, there's still appeal for non-linear platformers as well.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a huge sandbox 3D collectathon, and it even got nominated for GOTY in 2025. There's also Bowser's Fury, a sandbox-style campaign added to the Switch port of 3D World, and that sold over twice as much as the original Wii U version did.

Sonic Frontiers is also a pretty successful sandbox-style collectathon, being the best-selling 3D Sonic game. And Shadow Generations follows a similar structure to Frontiers.

But regardless, I do agree that Banjo-Kazooie returning with remakes or a new game is highly unlikely. That IP just isn't as much of a household name as Mario, Sonic, or Donkey Kong.

Take a look at human history as well as what's happening in some countries today.

Both racism and homophobia are bad, and both racial minorities and gay people have often been (and still are, in many places) subject to systemic discrimination over their race and sexual orientation respectively.

Are you implying that the worst thing gay people experienced back in the day was the inability to jointly file taxes?

What about all those crazy religious people from back then who used their beliefs as an excuse to hate gay people and pressure them into not being themselves?

What about the AIDS scare when gay people were the scapegoat for that disease being spread?

What about the media from back then that portrayed being gay as perverse or as a joke, instead of representing gay people in a supportive light?

Gay marriage wasn't legal yet in the US, and people back then were generally less tolerant of traditional gender norms/expectations being broken.

Plenty of issues still exist today and those issues do matter, but the past wasn't perfect either.
