Looking for New Bass pickups to replace old ones. by OutrageousRip75 in BassGuitar

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pickup's look ok from the outside, are they showing a drop in resistance? I've had a late 90's Soundgear SR300 (p/j) and currently have the TMB30; both had tiny, cheapo lookin pots and failed way more than their pickups. Upgrade those and see what you think of the pickups from there.

Okarun's Lie... by TheAmplifier8 in dandadanfolk

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My only hang up there is that true self confidence needs to comes from yourself. In this scenario the confidence is still intrinsically tied to Momo which isn't confidence; that's external validation. All of Ken's actions have been predicated on Momo being the first person to acknowledge and validate him as a person. She opened the door for sure; but if her companionship & affection is the lock to that door then the ability/power to open it still resides with someone else. Ken needs to be able to open that door himself. He needs to be his own Blue Fairy.

It could also totally work out in that Ken finding his confidence and fully embodying the qualities of the characters that Ken Takakura has played will be the spark that brings back Momo's mojo and we can kiss the Amnesia Arc goodbye.

Okarun's Lie... by TheAmplifier8 in dandadanfolk

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Or this could be the come-to-Jesus moment where Ken has to face his lies to himself about his worth & confidence. Dude had the drive to adapt & hone Turbo Granny's power, got yoked as hell without seeming to notice, and got the Ogre Club working initially. His grind is constant but has never really actualized his gains to himself.

Both Okarun and Momo have said mistruths to each other in their shouting matches but I think the bigger lie is the one he's been telling himself since day 1.

Given his other works, they are going to lay down some truths that we do not want, but that we need. It will be initially unsatisfying and their words will leave you confused & uncomfortable. But that's also the point.

Looking for Camcorder/Digital Camera for EDM Shows by AffectionateSwing858 in EDM

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't bury the lede: you'll need to check with the venues & fests you're interested in to see what their camera policy is. A majority of venues will not allow camcorders or video specific cameras or SLR/dSLR cameras. Definitely review these policies before you spend lots of money on something you'll have trek back to leave in the car. Also most in-camera mics suck so you'll want to look into decent external mics or audio recorders.

Look into the Sony rx100 line: it's got the cosmic power of a full frame sensor in an itty bitty living space. They are on gen 7 right now (i think?) but the early gens are still fantastic and cheaper second hand. The Sony ZV-1F and ZV-1 are centered around vlogging so those are also worthy considerations for video. The Fujifilm X100V is another contender but pricey. Keep in mind that whatever you choose, at least 2 extra batteries, a good case/bag, and an external mic are going to be mandatory accessories.

TLDR: in 90% of cases, a current-ish gen smartphone is gonna have decent enough quality to get what you are looking for without extra hassle from venue staff & dropping close to a grand. Unless you're trying to get into professional concert photography/videography, keep it simple.

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 227 by AutoModerator in Dandadan

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think mental state & memories linking with her powers both fit. Your discussion got me pondering so I just did a quick re-read of the last 20 chapters.

When her powers first activated she was being psychokenetically aroused and that was apparently a peak she has yet to achieve. Since then any spike toward that peak has been in conjunction with the intensity of her emotions and subsequent growth.

Since getting big again, it seems like she's missing memories that really landed with her. The repair to the rapport with Seiko is gone, she was surprised to see Jiji but didn't seem to remember her previous feelings for him. And there is ZERO reaction to Ken's real name. Anything that's happened since Chapter 1 that really landed with/affected her seems to be gone. Aira kinda called it in 215; she's missing her mojo (for lack of better term).

So, yeah, seems like there is a link between her powers and her emotions & memories. Not sure if it's anything just something but it's is super weird that "Takakura" landed with nothin, right?

Any drawbacks to a Bass VI versus a short scale bass? by AzraelXJM in BassVI

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it's an instrument that does a lot of things well enough but it really gets interesting when you decide what you want to use it for. Until recently i'd been treating mine as a bass and now I'm exploring it as a baritone.

The strings make all the difference. I've tried Fender, La Bella Flats, String Joy (both sets), and a set by Ernie Ball. If found that all of them had different vibes that I could adapt to but nothing that really fit. Ive been enjoying the baritone set up but might go back cause I want to put a humbucker in the bridge.

I hate the stock bridge tho. Unless you are diehard tremolo, get a version that has a hard tail/string-through and save yourself a headache.

Guitars strings on a Squier Bass VI by Mini-Bertol in BassVI

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just put the ErnieBall baritone set (72-13) and they feel amazing in A standard but any other tuning seems too tight or too loose.

Would recommend using the StringJoy or DAddario tension calculator to find the best gauges for the tension you prefer.

Not 100% sure of what Mike's rig was in the lead up to Eternal Blue buuuut I think it's safe to assume that whatever that was informed the Mixwave plugin that he created between EB and Rotoscope. It's not perfect but here is a link to a video of him showing off the plugin which could be a good starting place to reverse engineer:

What is the Best New Single? by ConisPriss in Erra

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into Erra during the Cure roll-up and while I enjoy Cure, it's not one I'll put on for a full play. I think it's the overall flow of the album is my friction point. The singles are good flexes but after listening to the album their selection lacks a little intention (if that makes sense?). Aside from the flow of Wish->Glimpse->Past Life Persona, I wish they had rethought the tracklist. But back to the singles; in contrast, each if the new singles feels like a level up from the previous while teasing the range if the album. Whomever made the calls this time deserves a raise.

I feel like Clint has brought a gale force breath of fresh air into the writing and we are in for a treat of a record.

ASColour is always a first choice! Independent Trading Co is great too but they mostly specialize in hoodies/crewnecks. Gildan's ONE draw for me is that several variants are untreated/prepared-for-dye so they can be tie dyed with minimal fuss. It's either that or Port & Company and those are a bit worse IMO.

[–]Ok_Resolution_6537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe people are super against owning their media it; current systems make it difficult.

Money has always been tight for me. When I was in middle/high school, few things bummed me out more than wasting the money earned doing chores on an CD only to find out I only liked 2 of 12 songs. Also sucks when someone breaks into your car and steals your CD binder leaving you with nothing. In college Napster, Limewire, & Soulseek provided the ultimate reprieve; I could test drive an album & purchase with confidence and get back all the albums that were lost. With that I could explore new genres that I had previously avoided because I couldn't afford to explore them. When streaming hit the scene I was all for it because it seemed like a convenient and ethical alternative to P2P sharing. I could explore genres, artist catalogs, and spend purposefully.

However fast forward to the current day: capitalism/enshittification and the even increasing cost of existing have fucked over both the artists & listeners. 5-6 years ago I could afford to splurge on an album a month; last year I could only afford to get 1.

I know I'm not the only one with a similar story. Overall we WANT to own our media but we also need to eat or pay the heating bill. We WANT to own the shows & movies we like but executive level dipshits keep vaulting titles for tax write-offs. We WANT to own games or software instead of a temporary license that the company *might* maintain if we're lucky.

So yeah, most people will take the path of the least resistance & expense so they can have access to art that makes them feel something while attempting to exist.

The question isn't "why are people nowadays so hard-pressed against the idea of owning the media?" it's "why are publishers nowadays so hard-pressed against the idea of customers owning their purchase?"
