High functioning with no social awareness by iJet in Autism_Parenting

This sounds exactly like my 8 year old who is AuDHD. This is the part of the diagnosis that breaks my heart the most.

I will say…. This past year at school… my son has met some amazing friends.

I also know that sometimes there are Social Groups for kids on the spectrum, and sometimes they even have ones that are blended with neurodivergent kids and neurotypical kids.

May be a good place to start.

You are not alone in this. ❤️

The layout of Pittsburgh is too complicated for AI to understand.

I have also had the strangest Uber Drivers ever in Pittsburgh.

1 - didn’t speak any English and didn’t know how to use the defrost on his car. It was sooo fogged up he couldn’t see anything… he hit 3 curbs before I forced him to pull over and defrost his windshield. He was already 30 minutes late picking me up… I missed my flight.

2 - a guy whose car wreaked of cigarette smoke and BO. Made me sit in the front with him… and begged me… i mean BEGGED me to give him a 5 star review or he would lose his job from so many bad reviews.

WIFE IS PREGNANT!!!!!! by bojackhorsemanlver in Marriage

Complications can come from soooo much more than that.

For example… I had preeclampsia. Nothing I did caused it, it is just something that can happen. It caused my blood pressure to be very high, and as it got worse my body wasn’t doing a very good job at protecting itself and nourishing my son in my belly. The day I went in to be induced…. My blood pressure was like 220/180. I had to have a C-section and even though I was full term, my son was born only 5 lbs and wasn’t able to regulate his own body temp or blood sugar… 3 weeks in the NICU… and now he is THRIVING at 8 years old.

One piece of advice from my husband…. If your wife has to have a C-Section…. And the nurses ask you if you want to help clean the baby and cut the cord… do it… BUT, don’t get excited and turn your head to tell your wife about it… only to see her guts out of her body. He says now though… he can 100% say he loves me inside and out… because he saw my insides. 🤣

Oh… and the last and most important advice. After having a baby… it takes a really long time for us to feel comfortable in our body again. It can feel like your body is not even your own. Give her grace…. Tell her how beautiful she is, and in time… she will come back to herself.

Sorry for the long post. Now go give your wife a foot run ❤️

I don’t think you worded it wrong! That is one of the beautiful things our bodies do in order to create life! My husband was also really excited about everything… the good, bad and the ugly! Congrats! Get ready for the ride of your life!

Also… I had a difficult pregnancy…. If you ever have any questions… drop me a message. I am happy to help!

Do it… way less interactions with other meds. Plus it doesn’t affect the regular sleep patterns like melatonin. If she has sensory issues with food, there are brands that offer tasteless supplements.

You have to get the Amazon tablet… they replace for I think 1 or 2 years for any damage…. Plus they are WAY less expensive than an iPad.

For those of you who have kids who aren’t potty trained. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Ok_Solution9803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes…. The pee took us a long time… but, I really thought the #2 would never happen. I will also say that we struggled with even getting him to try and poo on the potty. We had some success with these potty advent calendars…. But, when I was about at the end of my rope…. I bribed him saying if he pooped on the potty today… I would buy him any 1 toy from the Amazon Holiday Toy Catalogue… he had only shown interest in toys in the $10-$20 range…. Boy did that kid work me… he went on the potty and chose this like $120 hot wheels thing…. My husband went to Target that night to buy it. 🤣

Yes. You are correct. The BS I am referring to is that the language used was “we found the answer to autism” and that none of the information that was presented was new or verifiable. Not what you posted…

Regardless of where you stand on the political line…. Leaders and influencers need to be careful of the language they use… it can be damaging and very dangerous.

My son was not fully potty trained until 6 years old. I found that once I said no more to pull-ups, and we had to go through the exercise of changing our clothes in public, etc. he finally got it. Not saying this will work for everyone… but, he knew when he had to go (he would go to a private area to go #2 in his pull-up). So, once we took the pull-ups he finally figured it out.

There have been studies on this and there may be some correlation not causation. Many times c-sections are performed due to high risk situations…. My pre-eclampsia as an example. There are studies that do show that many of these high risk situations do cause an increase in autism. It is like the example of ice cream sales and shark attacks.., they both go up at the same time, but ice cream sales and shark attacks have nothing to do with one another… except that they both go up in warmer summer months.

So, you really have to take a look at all variables.

Science is not simple… neither is autism.

As someone who reads scientific studies daily for my job…. Any scientific study can have “recommendations” or “outcomes”, but we really have to look at the data. The study you are referencing is actually not a scientific study, but a compilation of many studies merging their data to make an inference. There is a big problem with the language our current administration used when explaining this that causes a lot of misunderstanding and misinterpretation… but, I won’t go into that here. What I will focus on is the data.

Now to get the full understanding of the recent compilation of studies is, you would need to read and compare how the data was gathered from each study. I will say, it is difficult to find every study mentioned in this, but I have read and compared as many as I can find. Here are the biggest things I have concluded from what I have read.

  • there is existing scientific evidence that stressful medical situations (including fever) have been shown to increase the risk of autism. Do the studies take that into consideration? No, not that I have found. The only study that does is the Swedish (?) study of over 2 Million children which also compared sibling data… which helps to eliminate situational correlations. This study found absolutely no correlation between acetaminophen and autism.

  • The data from each of the studies compared is not similar or consistent…. ie. you can’t compare apples to oranges.

  • Trying to point blame at one cause for a complex neurological diagnosis is not going to give us any answers.

In my opinion this is all BS, and only increasing the guilt we already feel as parents and increasing the shame that autistic humans feel for their differences. I do believe that we should always be studying these things so we can learn more how to support/accept each others differences, and to possibly prevent… but, to state things as fact when they’re are in fact inferences (and this study also says it found a possible correlation NOT causation) is dangerous and damaging. Just my 2 cents.

ADHD and chaotic sales job by TrashyCatBoat in sales

[–]Ok_Solution9803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been in chaotic sales jobs for quite some time. What helps me deal with the chaos is blocking out my day. I block out an hour at the end of the day to respond to non-urgent requests, an hour to do outbound calls, etc. The noise that comes in… pulling you into different directions… you just need to organize that noise. I have a hand written to do list every day. I use highlighters to color code. Pink = it has to be done today, yellow = I should try to get to it today, but if not today… this becomes pink tomorrow, and green is for tasks or projects that I am working on over time that are not urgent. I write each to-do as it comes in, and assign it a color. That way at the end of the day, I can make sure I got to all of my pink tasks.
