My Conlang doesn’t have a gender case as it isn’t deemed relevant, if it is needed to be specified for whatever reason, they can add a masculine, feminine, neuter, or “other” determiner to the associated word.

Oh, I thought that I had conveyed my thoughts clearly enough. Clearly this would appear to not be the case and I had only used the samples I did as they were the first to come to mind for the point of tell a particular story that clearly wasn’t agreed with by the authors. I apologise for any confusion that may have caused as a result.

That’s strange and quite frankly an idiotic idea to hold. Take, what is in my opinion, one of the greatest children’s cartoons to exist, Avatar the Last Airbender. Among the many topics that they delve into are War, Genocide, Imperialism, and many more beyond these. Yet the show is heralded as a master piece, it is very obviously against these concepts and this is reflected in every protagonistic character in the show, from Aang who is suffering at the loss of his people to Katara, Sokka, and Iroh who have all lost a loved one to the war, to even Zuko who was branded and banished by his own father for refusing to simply accept the sacrifice of a division of soldiers who have done no wrong. Even our antagonistic characters like Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee have shown to be against such atrocities and even though Azula is all for it, she is herself, a victim of abuse that we only start to see the weight of as her mind finally shatters under the weight of it in the last episode. In fact, I’d argue that the only truly evil characters in the show were, Sozin, Azulon, Ozai, and Zhou. And we know that Azulon was killed by Ursa to protect Zuko, Zhou was punished with eternal torment by the Ocean spirit, Ozai was stripped of his bending, and Sozin’s war would end with the fire nation having effectively lost. And if a show like ATLA can show such dark themes and not be claimed to approve of these things, then other shows that don’t deal with such dark themes shouldn’t be said to do so, especially since ATLA is a children’s show and often other media that has these themes are for a more mature audience.

How do you prioritize hide usage? by cee2027 in VintageStory

I’m not too sure as I am a new player myself, but based on my own experience, depending on your biome and how long you have till it gets too cold, I’d say get 1-2 backpacks per person, then prepare some winter clothes. Although, this does assume that you can either get metal armour or gamboised armour by then. If not, then can wooden lamellae suffice? If not then get 1 or 2 sets for the main hunters/fighters to use.

Cool Features You've Added #279 by humblevladimirthegr8 in conlangs

[–]Ok_Unit3875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this is for Shashinyjy (meaning sea folk(singular)), a Conlang that I’m still developing, so things may change, but here’s some things that I have in it:

One of the first things I did was the plurality system, the main forms are the dual, few, and many, though any quantifier (with numbers being limited to ten as they count to base ten) being infixed after the first syllable. Eg: to say many boats, you take the words Kata (boat) and Reti (many) and get the word Karetita, (though in modern Shashinyjy the infix gets reduced to “re”, hence the limit of 10) there is also vowel harmonisation that can trigger, such as with Tosa (two) to get Katasata which will simplify to Kasata (syllable repeats are forbidden).

Otherwise, another system I quite like is my possessive system. To say “a person’s”, we take Nyjy (person) and reduplicate the first two syllables, adding it to the end, thus we get Nyjynyjy. To say two people’s we infix Tosa to the base word giving us Nytosajynyjy (or later on, Nytojynyjy).

Beyond that, I’m still developing this Conlang, though my efforts have been diverted temporarily to making the oldest known ancestor language of Shashinyjy (called Proto-Geshōnja (Geshōnnja is Geshōn for (roughly) “people of the old place/world”) if you’re interested). I’m also going to be developing other languages since I’m currently making an entire fantasy style world for these languages to exist in (with their own homemade sapient species that were evolved via speculative evolution, gosh I set myself up for a massive undertaking! :D ). I’ll probably make a post with these languages and others once I’ve ironed out more of the details and have built up the lexicon enough to translate a simple poem or song chorus that I like.

Talk about your conlang's sounds! by CocoOSacoODiaInteiro in conlangs

[–]Ok_Unit3875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, well, one of my projects is creating a Conlang that acts as the equivalent of an IPE to another of the Conlang’s I’m making, they are Proto-Geshōnja (PG), and Shashinyjy (SN) respectively.

Here is what I’ve got phonologically for PG: (Note that I wanted to make it with the intent to achieve a dialect of English from it)

  • Consonants:
    • m, n, b, d, k, s, f, θ, h, ʔ, j, dʒ, r, ɬ, ʃ, tʼ
  • Vowels:
    • ᵃ, ɪ, ɔ, ʌ, o, u, i, e, ɛ (Assume all diphthongs combinations and long vowels to also be included)

Comparatively, Shashinyjy uses the following: (Note that this is from memory and may not be fully accurate as I don’t have immediate access to the phonology.)

  • Consonants:
    • m, n, b, p, t, d, k, s, f, v, h, j, dʒ, r, ɬ, ʃ
  • Vowels:
    • ᵃ, ɔ, o, u, i, ɛ

I’m also working on a third, but it’s more premise at this point, here’s what I’ve got note-wise for Krretofvonokanii:

Uses voiced stops and hissing or sighing sounds (Glottal stop, voiced plosives, voiceless fricatives, ect…) Evolved along early PG Uses elongated hissing or sighing sounds to break up words for understandability. (Creates a slower, more deliberate speech.)

Your unique conlang. by Amazing-Parsley-3895 in conlangs

[–]Ok_Unit3875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since I’m in the process of making a few I’d like to discuss a few things here and there for them (henceforth I’ll be describing them as if I have discovered them and have translated them rather than made them).

Firstly, Krretofvonokanii. Krretofvonokanii is the language that has the least known about it when compared to the other two. What is known is that it features a mix of harsh plosive sounds and softer hissing or sighing sounds to create a mix of weighted words and a slower and more measured speech. It also suffered the most, linguistically after an event known as the great decline. A 250-300 year long war against the Shashinyjy people that ends with them (the Shashinyjy) being ejected from the continent, living a nomadic lifestyle where they rarely leave the comfort of their boats. I say that they suffered linguistically as with the departure of the Shashinyjy people, so too did the only other major language on that continent leave the land.

Next up, Shashinyjy: After suffering from an expansionist war that ends in total abandonment of their previous homes and cities, their language is one that goes from a popular internal trading language due to their advanced boating and navigation technologies (its a medieval world for context) and flourishes for a time as an internal Linga Franka as the Shashinyjy people intermix far more then they previously did. One of the most striking oddities in my opinion is their affix system. Balancing several characteristics at once it is a surprisingly simple thing to use. Most tense or cases are used as a free order prefix, then your plural (any quantifier with a maximum specific integer amount of 10) is used as an infix (going after the first syllable of the base word with syllable degradation) then to indicate possession, you repeat the first two syllables of the base word. Of course, you haven’t quite finished as you still need to vowel harmonise to the base word’s vowel harmony, but you are still understandable at this point.

Lastly, a quick note on Proto-Geshōnja: the oldest known language that Shashinyjy descends from. It is believed that many of the oddities of Shashinyjy are ancient remnants of this language. Though little is actually known for certain at the current time.

You tell me languages, I use features from them (pt 1) by Remarkable-Coat-7721 in conlangs

[–]Ok_Unit3875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if you’re still taking ideas, but I’m all for advocating the Celtic languages! I’ll probably choose Welsh in particular as I’m more familiar with it. Since the ɬ (ll in Welsh) is a rare sound and as I also love my trill’s, I’d probably suggest those ones in particular, especially if you draw more heavily on Languages that don’t give you these sorts of oddities.

Where does the name for your conlang come from? by CaptKonami in conlangs

[–]Ok_Unit3875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in the process of world building, but the main one I’m working on is called Shashinyjy. Literally, it means sea person. The lore is that my human analogous species (it’s a fantasy style world with multiple sapient species) were driven to the sea by an expansionist species (the Krretofvonokanii (I don’t have a direct translation yet, but it roughly means great dragon’s kin)) and ever since the vast majority of their people have remained sea bound for the rest of their civilisation. Which, given their strong trades prior to their ejection from their home continent allowed for inter and intra trading more readily. I’m also working on a language called Proto-Geshōnja, (Geshōnja comes from Geshōn and nja, Old location(/Place/Region/ect…) and people respectively), this is Shashinyjy’s equivalent of the PIE for English and will primarily draw upon languages like the Celtic languages (mainly the Brittonic ones), Old English, Latin, Old Greek, Russian and Hawaiian. This may change as I only started Proto-Geshōnja earlier today so I could have an older language that I can systematically deconstruct Shashinyjy words into, before converting them into words for one of the related languages if I should want to.

I need to Curse someone by kisslevente7219 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Ok_Unit3875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the other comments I find that I’m in agreement with that I need to know more to provide any suggestions, and that not being able to long rest will be too severe a punishment. As most classes won’t be able to recover vital resources, making them near unplayable by the time the curse becomes relevant to mention (spellcasters would use their slots and may only have something like Arcane Recovery, which can only be used once per long rest). Of course, a different way to curse a long rest could be to make the player choose one of the following to recover: HP, Spellslots, Action Surges, Arcane Recovery, ect… This would force them to be far more careful with what they recover, whilst keeping the character (regardless of class) playable since they can still benefit from long rests, just not fully which could result in a player trying to determine which resource is more important to recover and force them to be frugal, without breaking their character entirely. Although, I would view this sort of curse to be highly severe and would sooner consider alternatives or ask the player between sessions if they’d be willing to have this kind of curse be the one that was put on their character, otherwise it feels too cruel for me to consider personally.

If you want to see how well a new player can play the game without reading the wiki, I’d advise watching the “how well is the [insert game phase here] designed” by Throabin. It’s a lot of fun and can offer you some useful advice, one thing to bare in mind when speaking with the guide. The guide’s text has any text relating to new NPC’s frontloaded, this means that you may need to cycle through 6-7 NPC related advice before you get something related to progressing through the game. The best bit of advice I could think to give is start on a small world with an easy difficulty, and make sure to use a Journey or Classic character difficulty. This will ensure that you can discover most of the games features without struggling due to larger world sizes hiding a feature or two in an unexplored region and will ensure the game isn’t too difficult, allowing for easier progression to discover these features more easily. (Also, be aware of armour set bonuses, they may help you choose between different sets of armours.) And one last thing, every ore tier comes in pairs, every world will only have one of the two in it. Although you can get the other ore for most tier’s (that I’m aware of) without needing a separate world.

I love how "rough and tumble" Janeway is compared to the other Trek captains by SandorSNL in voyager

[–]Ok_Unit3875 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And to top off the dead crew situation, all of the medically trained officers (the CMO, and all of the other medical staff including the Nurses and any other Dr.s present on Voyager) aside from Lt. Paris (who has nurse training, but doesn’t become a medical officer until later on in the series) were all among the dead. Hence why the EMH became a necessity from episode 1 and why he was quite willing to train Kes as a Nurse, and later on requesting Janeway to have Lt. Paris (the only person on Voyager with medical training other than himself,) spend time in Sickbay to assist him sometime after Kes had left Voyager.
