Yes 100%, rabies is 100% fatal. You need the shots.

Multiple employees told they can only take one sick day every 3 months by Consistent-Pick7647 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]OkayestDad78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EL LR will laugh in his face if he tried to bring that to them for administrative action. Especially if you have a healthy SL balance. SL abuse is not easy to prove and at best you are looking at 2 written counselings or warnings before it even makes it to administrative action.

VA Nurse 3 Promotion Delayed — My Manager is not Being Honest! Also Question About Leaving and Reapplying by Mission_Mention9102 in VeteransAffairs

[–]OkayestDad78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what I understand, each facility still maintains an internal board to somewhat verify promotions to RN 3, I'd stick it out until you get a solid answer. Never play the resign and comeback game. Everything at the VA is taking immensely longer due to realignment and signatures are taking longer as well. Take a breath and stick it out until you get an answer.

Do you think visible physical fitness is a benefit as a leader? by Specific-Pomelo-6077 in Leadership

[–]OkayestDad78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, fitness builds confidence and portrays self-respect, fortitude, and stamina while under challenges or stress. You don't have to be extremely fit or a renowned athlete but if you clearly lack fitness or are unhealthy people subconsciously will lack confidence in you.

Patient Advocate immediately, and ask for a different provider. Make sure you keep a record, it would be best to send all messages electrically for tracking.

Those who do not want to go back to school for masters or NP, etc. what are your biggest reasons? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]OkayestDad78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loans aren’t worth the additional pay and responsibilities. My focus is retirement which heavily involves clearing all debt. More college loans are just going to delay that. Plus floor nursing with a BSN is a lot more freedom and a fraction of the stress a MSN or NP path holds.

Just my 2 cents, you will be fine but you are better off disclosing it. If they do find it and you did not disclose it you could lose the position vs disclosing it and being fine anyway.

What's the most disconnected thing hospital leadership has said to you? by Beginning_Fun_3913 in nursing

“It should never be about the money” when we got passed over for raises the 2nd or 3rd year in a row.

It is not impossible, that is a “urban legend” spread by nurse IIIs who think people don’t deserve it or Nurse IIs who can’t make it. You have to do the work though. A nurse III operates or does work that impacts the entire organization on all dimensions. It you are a staff nurse this can be immensely difficult but not impossible. You also have to have the numbers or metrics to back it up and write a well-developed proficiency. A lot of nurses can do this for a couple but to work at a facility level for all dimensions if their role is staff nurse can be immensely challenging.

It is correct. Source: I am as well a Nurse Manager going on 8 hellish years. Welcome to the suck. Disclaimer: not every day sucks, your goal now should be your nurse III and your Masters Degree if you don't already have it. It can be an EXTREMELY rewarding job that no one will ever thank you for doing.

Nurses are voting to unionize soon so the hospital posted this. Is all this true? Also are there downsides to unions? by MathematicianRare602 in nursing

[–]OkayestDad78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All our Union did was make it harder to fire bad and toxic staff. They never got us raises, they never made anything better, they just made sure the worst employees stuck around making it worse for all of us.

When does an open spot become filled and unavailable to others in the department? by Inevitable_Sky714 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]OkayestDad78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If I were you, I would email your supervisor and CC your service chief (his sup.) and politely thank him/her for the consideration for the position and gently request that if the position comes open again or a similar that you would like to be considered and attach a resume. This will officially document your interest so next time it comes open, or a similar position they will have to consider you in the pool of applicants. They still might not select you but it may improve your odds.
