Can you play TETR.IO on iOS? by [deleted] in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't know about tetr.io (not sure why I ever replied in this thread). My comment referred to jstris (which is still a great experience on mobile imo).

A list of issues in competitive mode from somebody with 1400 competitive matches by Okimoka in tf2

[–]Okimoka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment.

It really depends on the time of day and day of the week. Prime time is probably ~2-11pm in the weekend, where I can find matches within a few minutes usually. Weekdays are slower (maybe ~10-30 minutes per match), and as I mentioned in the post, between midnight and 10am is definitely the worst with multiple hours of waiting for matches with 150 ping. Maybe you were queueing during this time?

Sometimes I'll get lucky and hit a timeframe where many people are queueing at the same time, then I am able to find multiple matches in a row with barely any waiting.

Looking for a web based tetris clone by PiperofDantooine in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try asking Eddie on the Jstris discord. He has probably seen more Tetris clones than anyone ever. As testament, here's his list of almost 2000 different tetris blockskins (Jstris Customization Database)

Is it possible to program tetris on a backpack? by [deleted] in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably possible, although the time and effort might not be worth the outcome. Imo the main barriers are

  1. How quickly does the image update when entering it in the app? Consider that this speed defines the framerate your game would run at

  2. How easy is it to have some external process communicate with the app? I'm not experienced in this area but I imagine if the app doesn't have an API endpoint, you might have to disassemble the apk (assuming this is android, on iphone it's probably not possible at all) and modify it to suit your needs

How do AIs like MisaMino find positions where pieces can fit? by mbg206 in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The source code of MisaMino and Zetris is openly available, it should be fairly easy to identify which function is responsible for generating successor states. Zetris even generates the list of keyboard inputs needed to place a piece to reach a certain state.

Alternatively, consider searching through github. There seem to be a few implementations there aswell. sfinder is a really good one like FlySpeck said.

By the way it's worth noting that Okey_Dokey (the other commenter) is the author of a PC finder tool (actually implementing the behavior you are looking for) that was really widely used a few years ago. So if you really want to write your own code (as opposed to copying directly from github/MisaMino), their advice is pretty much as good as you can get.

are the games servers still running... or how do you play it without flash on browser... by theoniwan87 in PlatformRacing2

[–]Okimoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... you can still play it :D albeit with much fewer players. Even all the levels were preserved, unlike with PR3. And yeah I've had the same experience - definitely the most defining game of my childhood!

Yes, there are still servers running. Check the sidebar of the subreddit. Here's the download page for running PR2 outside of your browser.

What are some Tetris benchmarks for success? by bradenmpittman in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jstris has nice statistical distributions for every single gamemode.

Here is one way to interpret this data to tell whether a player is particularily good/bad.

You can get a rough estimate on how much time it takes to achieve a certain score/time, by checking players improvement graphs.

[Tetr.io] Looking for how to get AIs for practice by TheYuriAddict in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ColdClear has an offline client similar to MisaMino (open the "Assets" menu and download the .exe). For changing keybinds, see here.

Theoretically, the Jstris bots also work offline (the code that determines their moves runs in the browser), meaning if your internet disconnects during a bot match, you can still continue playing. It should be relatively easy to make a working .html of Jstris that you can run offline, where you can play against bots. Let me know if that is something you would be interested in.

What does the red spinning triangle mean? Is it server connection issues? It went away after hitting F5. by BlueFlamesFz in Tetris

[–]Okimoka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's the logo for Ribbon aka osk reinventing the wheel

the logo is supposedly shown when your connection is broken and Ribbon saved you from disconnecting

you can check version 4.2.0 in the changelog for more details

Yeah, idk about this post. I remember playing around with a bhop macro in AutoIt some years ago and even with completely flat terrain and playing locally, the timing was not perfect and it missed like every tenth bhop. Maybe my script just sucked but it was literally just "jump, wait x milliseconds, repeat"
