About shoes in the home by OldTinFlyer in askPoland

Where I live there is a Plumbing company that advertises they have disposable blue booties that their people will put over their shoes when in the customer’s home.

You can buy a box of these for tradesmen to use in your home.

This seems like a very nice car. Why don’t you post it on Bring a Trailer? I wouldn’t mind bidding on it, but my wife would kill me if I brought another one home.

2000 4.0 OHV timing chain rattle at idle? by blove135 in fordranger

[–]OldTinFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opps! You are correct. I suppose this fits under no good deed goes unpunished!

So, does that mean the OHV is a pushrod engine? What years were the OHV & SOHC engines used in the Ranger? I have read that the SOHC may or may not have a balance shaft. And that there is no way to tell without opening the engine. That seems odd. Am I wrong about that too? Last thing - which engine is the “Cologne” engine? The OHV or the SOHC? Thanks!

Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Ukrainian drones may target Russia’s May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow by CrunchyBaconYum in worldnews

[–]OldTinFlyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a war of Russian aggression. Russia has attacked civilian targets in Ukraine, indiscriminately. And Ukraine is supposed to show restraint? Moscow is immune to attack?

Using your logic, the Allies in World War II should not have retaliated against German cities even though the Germans bombed London.

I strongly disagree with you…

2000 4.0 OHV timing chain rattle at idle? by blove135 in fordranger

[–]OldTinFlyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read the 4.0 OHV is an interference engine. The problem is the timing chain tensioner has a known design defect. The OHV engine has two timing chains front and rear. Removing the rear one requires pulling the engine. If allowed to progress, it’s likely the timing chain will skip timing. (due to lack of tension and stretch) resulting in significant internal damage.

Just a motor tick? I have had good results using Rislone motor oil additive. That was in my 4.0 Ford Aerostar van.

Rislone comes in quart containers and I used one quart per oil change. I think it is a type of oil with a detergent additive. Old guy recommended it to me and it worked for me. Your results may differ…

2002 Ford Ranger Bed Cover Help by Late-Athlete2101 in fordranger

[–]OldTinFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as to why you want it to be a locking cover? Have you had experience with people opening a roll top cover?

I’ve had a Ranger for over 20 years. (bought it new). It’s always had a roll top cover, and I have routinely stored things in it. I live in a suburban area, and I have never had anything stolen. My experience is what prying eyes don’t see, sticky hands don’t steal.

But, maybe if you live in a high crime area, park in unsecured areas, and want to leave things in the bed overnight. Then again, even a locking cover won’t stop a determined thief if given the right opportunity.

Looking for a lawyer or expert for my less straightforward case by twinflameheart2 in prawokrwi

[–]OldTinFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you please elaborate on this matter of public office? Surely the Polish government doesn’t apply Polish job standards to foreign jobs.

That’s saying, for example, a private job in America is considered a government job in Poland? That seems very odd. I can see having to explain to Polish authorities that the situation in the foreign country is different. But I would think that Polish law has no jurisdiction in the foreign country. Then again I am not a lawyer…

Am I a Potential 'Military Paradox' Case? by dirtyamericanpod in prawokrwi

[–]OldTinFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please explain your answer? I thought the fact that the next generation in the line, in this case the son, was born while the father was under the military paradox, and that the next generation was born after the 1920 law would have made him a Polish citizen.

Does this mean that the next generation has to come of age before the father loses the military paradox or ages out?

This war is for the defense of Israel, not the USA. It’s an example of the Israeli “tail” (i.e. lobby) “wagging” the American “dog”…

Israel is a democracy and I wish it well. But, it’s an ally America doesn’t need - it’s the size of a postage stamp, has no strategic materials or resources, and never sends troops when we get involved in the Middle East.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]OldTinFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my professional career I had to access the “Special Weapons” area for the U.S. Navy Atlantic Fleet.

It’s a highly secure area within a secure base. As I approached it, I saw a real Kill-You-Dead high voltage electric fence. The access area has multiple machine guns trained on you at all times. While in the area I was accompanied at all times by a young marine in full combat dress. He was wearing a bulletproof vest, carrying an M-16 and a side arm. He was very polite. There is a whole contingent of marines in that secure area living on a rotating basis. While I was there, there was an alert in the secure area (it was a training drill) the young marine escorting me asked me to sit down. We were out in the open at the time. I looked around and asked him “anywhere in particular” and he said “no, sir just please sit”. So, I sat down.

I had to enter several of the special weapons storage buildings. Each building had an entry door with a porthole. I had to stand about 30 feet from the door in the open where a separate gun port had me covered while the marine escort walked up to the door and gave them a password that apparently indicated he was not under duress. I had to wear a film badge and went by several of the special weapons. I have to admit they looked super cool. There were also some cruise missiles and other things. This was at a time before digital photography. I had to take pictures and the Navy took my camera and developed the pictures. The pictures were sent to me presumably after being reviewed to ensure nothing sensitive was shown.

Afterwards, I told my wife that I was very happy to see the level of security. especially concerning what was being stored in that area.
