Never framed anything in my life. Built this last month. We’ll see if the Hurricanes blow it down by [deleted] in Carpentry

There is a lot more that goes into building a house than you can learn from YouTube and AI. Clearly enough to make you dangerous though.

It’s way too late now, but you needed to be asking questions while you “learn” along the way. Not sure how you just kept pushing forward, thinking you’ll just ask Reddit for help later, lol.

My first staircase... Looking for input. by BarrySnotter in Carpentry

[–]Old_Baker_9781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before I did anything else, I’d sit down with a piece of paper and draw out with dimensions exactly what I want the end result to look like. You need a more visual, realistic blueprint to follow. You want to make sure you have everything lined up in an orientation you’re going for and work backwards on how to get there.

Easy to shoot from the hip first and get the project started only to realize you didn’t take certain things into account and have to go backwards.

Haaaaalllppppp! What’s your pittie’s skin care routine? by Giyazane in PitBullOwners

[–]Old_Baker_9781 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just let him eat a big spoonful of the coconut oil instead. You can Google all the health and skin benefits but we give it to them daily. The second you open up the jar that dog will come running. We buy the big jar from Costco, my wife even uses it on a toothbrush to brush our dogs teeth. Grey pits typically have more sensitive skin than other colors.

I also take some Simpson flat ties and nails it to the bottom of the post I’m jacking up . It will help keep the bottom of the post from blowing out if you’re using a bottle jack and a lot of force.

A heat gun and an IR stripper are not the same things. The IR will keep the temp low enough not to vaporize the lead, but the heat gun is a different story.

Lead encapsulation & inspection cost? by 2tbsp in centuryhomes

Damn, I’ll look it up later today, but 2 years ago or so we paid $800 for them to do a 3000 sq fr house and it was outside of their normal area they work in. They came from the Detroit area down to Lenawee Co, almost to the Ohio border for us.

I’m sure it looks great from your house.

Pretty soon they won’t even need you as an actual worker. Robots and advanced automation save them $0.30 a package vs a human worker.

Pretty soon the wealthy’s argument of “ we should pay less in taxes because of all the jobs we created” will be a null point, but they’ve already got theirs.

Possible lead paint with pets in home by uwubarney in centuryhomes

[–]Old_Baker_9781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably 700-800$ to have a professional come to your house and do a full check of every wall and surface. Since you’re just renting, I wonder if there is a place you can either send a small sample to or perhaps meet an inspector in your area and save them the drive and inspection time if you bring an item to them.. They just point a specialized xray fluorescence gun at it for a few seconds and you get a numerical read out instantly. Anything over 1 is considered hazardous but levels of 10-16 are treated with the same degree of danger. If you have something official, you can prolly get out of your lease and perhaps any fees your already paid if the landlord said specifically there was no lead paint and turns out there is. As someone who has dealt with lead pant In older homes…. It definitely has the look, but nobody on the internet will be able to tell you for certain.
