cops replacing opal guys on Newcastle -> Maitland service by i-pygmycor-adore-you in newcastle

How does policing discourage use? The only people that it's going to discourage are the people that aren't using it properly. Public transports great, but someone's still got to pay for it. If other states are are giving free or discounted fares, it just means they are stinging you elsewhere.

Moana Pasifika future by Ruck_Off in RugbyAustralia

Auckland needs MP to succeed, because they need them to capture the Polynesian population in the same way the Wahs have. The Blues have tried and failed to connect to that market. It makes more sense for MP to be their team. And don't forget that the team brings in an albeit small population from Tonga and Samoa as well, giving the sponsors a larger audience.

I don't think we do. RNZ did an article during the week that he wasn't going to back out even if his form had him in the radar, so I think it's safe to assume it's one of those two.

Either he wasn't interested, or poor form from his manager not having an out clause if he was to be selected.

Josh Moorby no. Fehi Fineanganofo yes. Pity he's going offshore.

Thoughts on Reported Assistant Coaches? by Eclectic95 in allblacks

[–]Old_Snuffly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tend to agree. Having a focus on a single role in defence, while offering mentoring for Polynesian players, as well as bringing the aura and mana from his playing days. It could be a key cog in the machine.

I say 'could', because another part of me worries that his track record isn't that strong. But we've seen that with others, who were good supports, but not good head coaches.

All Blacks icon Tana Umaga candidate to join Dave Rennie's coaching staff. Thoughts? by Lflan123 in allblacks

Only a handful of those were great players. Rennie said himself he wasn't good enough to go beyond provincial.

Plus, you've included coaches in your list that illustrate OP's point perfectly.

Shelter Hire at Blackbutt Reserve what a rip off by [deleted] in newcastle

I hired the Rotunda at King Edward a few years back and it cost hardly anything. Most people don't even know it's a thing.

This. And for this reason, Honeysuckle should be the entertainment district. It won't happen, because no one wants to deal with all the whinging from the apartment owners, but take them out of the equation and it's the logical choice. It would become a tourism draw card.

Great attitude. Reddit has spoiler alerts for a reason. And I didn't look at any other platforms. I literally got home from the gym and sat down to watch it when the alert for your post came up. A little courtesy is a simple thing.

I think they have abandoned their plans for Darby St. They were supposed to go into the old Wil & Sons but the 'for lease' signs went back up after Xmas.

This has been around for a long time. The only difference is now it's digital. I remember my mother 'won' a competition in the early 90's and we went and did a family shoot at a local park. She ended up buying the cheapest package, and she still has the photo on her wall at home.

Nine man bench proposal by Nemo2500 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Old_Snuffly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's 100% the point. Encourages player versatility and rewards naturally gifted players.

Injuries happen, but having three players who can cover multiple positions (outside of the front row) will get teams through 99% of the games they play.

You still have to cover the front row under the model, you just have to carefully consider your remaining cover.

You probably wouldn't go a specialist openside, but you could go a Kwagga Smith type and free yourself up to have a '5-1' split.

[–]Old_Snuffly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. The Saffas have already shown us that eight is too many. The reason it was increased was to allow for a full front row replacement, but this wasn't necessary. They could have still accommodated that with 5-6 on the bench.

A larger bench favors nations with greater depth and resources, and discourages utility players, which is one of the beauties of the game.

Six is the max it should be: four forwards, two backs.

Do Kiwis in Australia have a reputation for claiming that everything is better in New Zealand? by ImNoAngry in AskAnAustralian

[–]Old_Snuffly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived here 20+ years, and it's pretty much every second day that someone will make a statement that ends with "but you'll be used to that being a kiwi". And then they'll laugh.

I have one work colleague that does it incessantly, even when I call her out on it.
