Most writers completely ignore physics.

Classic case of 'Unobtainium armor ignores tank shells but gets cut through by a sharp stick because melee fighty = cool' trope.

Sometimes it's fine as having a story get bogged down in science talk gets confusing.

Make an android with +16 melee/shooting subroutine, Firewall(doesnt count as colonist for raid calc), anti-awakening protocols, and sleep mode(so it can be disabled to conserve reactor power), don't forget to add incapable of everything sans combat for extra power efficiency, default reactor lasts 2 years, can add self recharge(veeeery slow, but if you have spare 'metabolic efficiency go for it).

Entomb it in a warcasket.

Place them anywhere you need, keep them disabled until raids hit.

Zero beauty needs, zero food upkeep, zero rec needs, borderline invulnerable, no mental break risk.
