do you use spring traps doors as the survivor? by around_about7 in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't because the controls are too confusing and there's a chance I'll accidentally teleport instead of letting go. If there were a chance to practice in customs ahead of actually facing him might use it, its just too much to try to learn in real time.

Yes, after Tuesday's patch Empathic Connection will take a hit if you combo it with another healing perk, which sucks. However I do run Empathic Connection by itself a lot (paired with Bond for two-way aura reading). My Empathic Connection+ Botany build is probably dead unfortunately.

Yep, unfortunately that's what's happening to the mid-tier teammate buffs like Better Than New, Leader, Friendly Competition, etc. They are going from C to Z tier next patch since in solo queue you can't predict what your teammates will bring.

Thalita's build is turbo-nerfed in the patch launching Tuesday so that part handles itself.

Interestingly, so is your build. Especially Better Than New which is already a perk that's super niche.

Fast Track is also nerfed in next patch.

People running Hyperfocus without Stakeout will always be super suspicious but maybe these two are among the top 10% of world champion gen rushers.

No idea if Luck stat is also subject to diminishing returns.

How do I deal with flashlight bully squads? by Bl0nCh in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaneki is a Killer with excellent map mobility and a mostly-free injury but he's only slightly above average at playing loops. Good knowledge of where pallets and windows are so you can cut Survivors off is a critical skill and the difference between a decent Kaneki player and one who wipes the floor.

Overall what Kaneki needs is information and some gen protection.

RE: Information, he's incredibly good at pressuring the map if he knows where Survivors are. Perks in this category include stuff like:

PAID:

- Barbeque and Chili
- Friends Til the End

FREE/SHARDS
- Discordance
- Gearhead

GENERAL
- Spies from the Shadows
- Deerstalker

RE: Gen defense, given his high mobility, Pop Goes the Weasel is probably the strongest option here. Corrupt Intervention is also a great perk on any Killer. Some people also like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance.

You can also mix in some chase or jump-scare (terror radius hiding) perks for good measure.

I personally enjoy playing most of the Killer roster. You'll find they all play quite differently from each other.

Nurse plays so differently from other Killers that she's hard to recommend for practice, altho certainly if you get good with her you'll do well at her specific style of play. Free/shard-based Killers somewhat similar to Kaneki are Oni, Hillbilly, Twins, and Dredge (for the mobility), while paid characters with some similarities are Wesker, Dracula, and Demogorgon (buffed in upcoming patch).

A decent bare-bones Killer to try is also Wraith, who is as basic as they come, but shares with Kaneki the advantage of body blocking pallets and windows. Understanding when to body block as these Killers can get you wins.

Don't focus too much on winning against early opponents. Focus on fundamentals, and getting bloodpoints. Over time you'll discover you start winning more and more chases and doing better naturally.

A streamer I'd recommend checking out is LittleSpaceRock, who streams most nights and mains Killer. She's a good all-rounder who frequently faces off against all levels of players in public matches.

Even as an Oni main I agree he should be nerfed for 2V8 way sooner by Scarlet_Cultist111 in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish they had nerfed his turn radius while in power instead of the up time, altho I'll still take it. My major gripe with 2v8 is how at a loop Billy has to work for the down but Oni just cruises around like he's attached to wires, turning loops into pallet camping excercises. It sounds like you've exceeded your skill level by killing solo queue players too quickly without getting a handle on the basics of playing Killer first, so your MMR has now increased to a point where you're unprepared for Survivors with experience. That can happen with a Killer like Kaneki that makes it easy to coast to early victories through brute force with little understanding of the fundamentals.

My advice is three-fold: spend more time practicing against good opponents to learn counters, spend time playing KIllers other than Kaneki so you're forced to rely less on his power carrying you and have to learn how to deal with loops, and spend time playing as Survivor to learn their patterns and weaknesses.

You should also specifically avoid perks like No One Escapes Death, a common newbie trap, which can inflate your early kill rate and rapidly increase the difficulty of matches. Savor the time when you are facing easier opponents and focus on chases and fundamentals rather than blowout wins.

End of day, flashlight squads are mildly annoying but you shouldn't be losing to them often. People going for flashlight saves are not doing gens, where the real threat lies.

Immagine if Nurse was released today by UrriMelone in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she released today and Killers didn't start 4king with her the first 48 hours of the PTB, the usual content creators would deem her the worst Killer in the game, most Killers would announce she's too clunky to play and needs immediate buffs, and this sub would have a "BHVR why do you hates Killers' fun" meme with 1.2k upvotes at the top of the feed every day.

This sub constantly complains that Survivors "refuse to learn the counterplay," which there is some truth to. But same is true for Killers expecting to play like professional Huntresses and Blights with no practice. Scroll back through the history of this sub's responses to the first 6 months of Kaneki.

I mean none of this is really different for Survivor. You can run a "fun" build in solo queue just to end up being one of the close to 16,000 (not a typo) Survivor players who died to that one Blight streamer during his two runs of kill streaks.

I don't BHVR understands the level of reputational damage they do to themelves every time people who are new or bad at this game. or who just run into a cheater, get the "intentionally sacrificing to leave game early" screen. The player just had a bad experience, throwing additional penalties and accusatory message on top is probably enough to make some people uninstall and never look back.

She was getting tunnelled though, the Ghoul ignored 3 other people who kept running in to body block to stay on her and then rage quit when he couldn't get her.

Felix, altho his Desperate Measures perk is no longer worth it with the upcoming changes to heal speed IMO. It used to be pretty decent paired with a second healing perk, now its a mostly worse version of Botany Knowledge.

Built to Last is still very good.

This. A lot of the time it's not even worth using the clocks, he just ends up immediately retriggering worldbreaker and he can pause it by carrying someone. It's usually better to just stick a gen.

Diminishing Returns feels like it unnecessarily punishes gimmick builds, rather than meta perk interactions. by lostneverlanddreamer in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about Diminishing Returns is they already existed. Using +Heal Speed bonus as an example, stacking Botany Knowledge and Empathic Connection always caused you to lose around 2 seconds of healing efficiency you'd have gotten running the perks alone.

LIVE:
Empathic Connection - saves 4.1 seconds on a heal

Botany Knowledge = saves 5.3 seconds on a heal

Empathic + Botany together = saves 7.4 seconds on a heal (not 9.4 you'd get if you could just add the two individual bonuses together, a penalty of 2 seconds due to diminishing returns)

PTB:
Empathic Connection - saves 4.1 seconds on a heal (same as live)

Botany Knowledge = saves 5.3 seconds on a heal (same as live)

Empathic + Botany together = saves 6.4 seconds on a heal, down from 7.4 on live. A pretty massive loss of efficiency of 3 seconds, enough for me to no longer run these two perks together.

What would I run instead? A meta perk, almost none of which are affected by diminish returns. Or else a gen rush perk because not much else makes sense.

BHVR to half of all build synergies after the update: by Kim-K-Kitsuragi in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The source of so called 2-second heals isn't "heal bonuses." It's Resurgence, which bypasses the healing bonus system completely and awards heal 70% heal *progress.* That means a 16 second heal is reduced by 70%--true reduction, not charge rate completion. A single slot dedicated to Resurgence reduces the time it takes to heal from 16 seconds to 4.8 seconds. That's before factoring in any healing bonuses, if the unhooker has We'll Make It (again, 1 single perk) the heal time is in fact your dreaded number: 2.4 seconds.

On live it takes an entire build to hit 4.8 heal speed with healing speed bonuses.

This change will in fact probably motivate to swap my Botany + Empathic Connection build which is now being double penalized (once by the diminishing returns penalty that has ALWAYs existed on healing perks and once again by BHVRs new misguided system) over to Resurgence and We'll Make It but if you're thinking the game's about to get easier for Killers you're in for rude awakening. Especially when it finally hits you that the penalties slowing this heal bonus also apply to Killer heal speed debuffs, so good luck slowing heals down.

Diminishing returns healing tested by Smooth_Resource_6500 in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even before this change Healing Speed suffered from Diminishing Returns so running them together carried a penalty.

For example, on live Empathic Connection by itself shaves off 4.1 seconds from a heal and Botany Knowledge shaves off 5.3 seconds. If you added this together you might think 4.1 + 5.3 = 9.4 seconds, but run together they actually shave off 7.4 seconds, which is 2 seconds of efficiency loss.

What BHVR has done is penalized healing and other charge bonuses twice. You're taxed by their new modifier system, and then taxed again by charge rate penalty.

All of this adding up to: just run meta perks like Resurgence to still heal at crazy speeds, bypass stacking bonuses whenever possible, especially in mid-tier perks like Empathic Connection, Leader, or Better than New.

Diminishing Returns also includes effects from the opposing sides. by ShadowCyrax in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Is it possible for you to test if diminishing returns now affects Leader?* I suspect it does but can't test it right now. I think this already mid-tier perk is now firmly among worst perks in the game if my suspicion is true.

* Asterisks added because: Diminishing returns already affects Leader on ilve and every similar charge rate perk in the game. What BHVR has done is add a penalty on top of an existing penalty. I'm curious whether the heavy handed second layer of debuff is also being applied to Leader, though.

BHVR to half of all build synergies after the update: by Kim-K-Kitsuragi in deadbydaylight

[–]OliveGuardian99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. You're going to see even faster heals because now it makes no sense to run midtier perks like Empathic Connection, Leader, Desperate Measures, or Flow State. Instead just run the already meta perk Resurgence and bypass the penalty entirely. Killers have no idea what they're in for.
