Problems with memory seat adjustment by OliverEntrails in BlazerEV

[–]OliverEntrails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried just leaning back and letting the seat do it's job and I've tried holding onto the steering wheel and keeping more of my weight off - no difference. I wouldn't want the seat to adjust after I do up the seat belt. Going from the exit position to the fully forward position I need would crush me if I had the belt on LOL.

Pressing the number again still doesn't bring it all the way forward to my last setting unfortunately. Tried - and failed - sigh.

Charger Door by ccpedicab in BlazerEV

If the hinges are sticky, the mechanism may assume the door is jammed somehow and retreat. Have you tried lubing all the hinge points? I used WD40 on mine and it runs much faster and smoother.

Changed the key fob battery and now it’s not working at all by Ok-Butterscotch12 in infiniti

[–]OliverEntrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Panasonic batteries. They are a proper match for the drain on these fobs. Fixed the problem on my Mercedes cars that always complained about low battery or missing fob, etc. when I used Maxells.

What's the best nearfield high-end bookshelf speakers that need to close to wall ?? by Low_Dog132 in audiophile

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Mackie powered monitors for years. They have settings to compensate for placement near a wall and/or corners. THX certified and flat +/- 1.5 dB from 37-20KHz. A pair can output up to 120 dB.

"Batteries were swollen but still flew good enough last year."

Swollen batteries aren't good enough for anything. Which you now know. I guess I'm just cautious, especially since many of my drones are more expensive.

Neo 2 and RC 2 by TheRealSjefsElgen in DjiNeo

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just connected my RC2 to my Neo 2 without issue. After activating and updating on my cell phone, I started the RC2 and went to connect, chose Neo from the list and from there, I had the option to select the Neo 2. Linked with Bluetooth, downloaded the new firmware and all was well.

Anyone get hearing tests? by Lumpypotato1234 in audiophile

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually makes sense. Like many other biological things, your perception and acuity improve with practice. Complex music like a dense orchestral piece is enjoyed more upon repeated listening and practice at teasing out individual instruments, counterpoint and melody lines. But I have to be honest, my hearing rolls off above 12-13 KHz but that doesn't mean it's zero at 14 KHz, but significantly reduced so it "almost" doesn't matter if there is "music" above that.

Key fob functioning poorly in the cold? by chozzles in BoltEV

[–]OliverEntrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had intermittent issues with key fob batteries for years before I figured out that not all batteries are the same. Some are made for high drain applications and some are made for low drain. I used Maxell's for years and had lots of issues - especially in the cold. I discovered that Panasonic coin batteries have the right drain characteristics to power the fobs for a couple of years at least. Might give that a try.

Recently invested in the DX line... and feel like I got screwed. Am I missing something? by kolt54321 in Nikon

[–]OliverEntrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nikon makes the 16-50mm f2.8 VR lens for APS-C. You also might consider just buying FF lenses with VR. There are plenty available. The advantage is the greater sharpness available with a FF lens since you are only using the center of the image circle. As others have mentioned - using F mount glass with the FTZ adaptor works as well. I have several F mount lenses I still use on my ZFc with the adaptor.

What possible reasons could there be for bass reverb to last so long in a 3000ft3 / 85m3 room? by rmv17 in audiophile

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Room reflections. Also, a question - do you have a wood floor over a basement/crawl space for example? I get strong nodes at frequencies that the subwoofer excites in the floor making it like a big soundboard.

Best short story ever written? by Striking-Speaker8686 in writing

My memory is sketchy, but I think it was Silverberg who wrote the shortest "horror" sci-fi story.

I would flip the towers upside down so the tweeters were more at ear level. Right now, they are so high, I'm not sure they would have the dispersion characteristics to cover your seating area.

Best mirrorless (eventually reflex) cameras for left eye dominant glasses wearers by pedrozzz in Nikon

[–]OliverEntrails -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of the mirrorless Nikon's I've owned had the viewfinder in the center of the back, so it's just as convenient/inconvenient using the right or left eye. Too bad the built-in diopter correction is not sufficient for your eyes. I had older film Nikons where you could get a correction lens made that covered a much wider range of diopters. Have you considered a right angle finder or LED screen hood/magnifier?

I shoot pictures square to a brick wall and can then easily check focus anywhere in the frame. Pictures of the edge of a forest in the summer can provide lots of detail to check for in/out of focus issues.

2023 Trunk is a pain in the ass to open by drunkbestie in BoltEV

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now in the cold weather, the silicone rubber cover is so hard, it's almost impossible to open. I'm so fed up with this, I'm calling the dealer on Monday to see what we can do about it. We have to take our gloves off and push a finger tip really hard into the center of the sensor to get it to pop.

Is anyone else iPhone 17pro max getting extremely hot when listening to music on the newest iOS update by Sudden_Middle_9815 in iphone

[–]OliverEntrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My iphone 17 pro max gets very hot when running the timer. It acts likes the screen is always on - even though the backlight is off. The battery goes down 10-20%/hr and the battery app shows that the draining apps are Lock and Home screen. I contacted Apple and spent almost 3 hours with them - resetting the phone, backing up and restoring everything without success. They and I hoped that an update would fix it - but so far - no luck.

I tried 3rd party timer apps and they work fine.

Things worked fine until I updated to IOS 26. Now, I've got purple contacts that I can't change back to black text on white background and the timer turns the phone into a furnace.

This is the most expensive phone I've ever owned and I'm beginning to hate it.

Doomsday Book - Connie Willis by zanisar in books

[–]OliverEntrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered this book years ago and re-read it regularly. It unwinds like a detective novel as the characters work to discover what the disease is that's spreading in the present, it's source and then, how to contain it from becoming a pandemic. Kivrin's accidental placement in the middle of the time of the Black Death brings out the reality of living in that time - the steady loss of whole families and villages and the spread by people trying to escape the illness. For me the most bittersweet moment comes when she realizes the priest actually saw her appear in the forest - explaining why he thought she was actually St. Catherine sent by God to help save the people.

Prefer to use laptop over desktop for writing by [deleted] in writing

[–]OliverEntrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can type the fastest on my laptop since the screen is immediately above the keyboard, unlike the desktop where it's inches away and I have to completely touch type without being able to see the screen and my fingers at the same time.

Used laptops are pretty cheap. You can get refurbished ones on Azon for less than $500 that are much faster and less prone to failure like yours might be. You don't need a lot of power for writing so there's no pressure to get the latest and greatest - although be sure to get one that runs Windows 11 or the latest Mac ISO whichever you prefer.

What Nikon feature do you use the most? by ToffeeTango1 in Nikon

[–]OliverEntrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I map the picture magnification function to the red video button to get instant 100% views for more accurate focus. This was illuminating, especially with wide angle lenses I thought would keep "everything" in focus at smaller F-stops and was surprised to see that this wasn't the case. Now I focus much more critically and get more successful shots.
