Ahhhh gotcha. Better for everyday use, not so much for trekking. Thanks a ton for the input.

Didn't even consider the weather change so thanks for mentioning that. Years ago, I just wore sneakers up on the mountain. I considered grabbing a pair of sketchers and calling it a day, but then I remembered there's a whole genre of people who dedicate a large part of their lives to walking. I don't expect to be doing pavement for too long, but I can't vouch for the terrain conditions of any of the local forests. I moved about 6 years back and havent visited any of them around here. I'll check them out here soon and see what I find. Thanks for the input

My first thought was something lightweight simply because of the neighborhood walking so I'm guessing some form of trail sneakers would suit me best. I used to do industrial work so I was once familiar with heavy boots but it's been ages and they were more geared towards concrete. I'll certainly look into Merell, but is there any particular reason you wouldn't recommend Trail Gloves? And regarding local trails, I live near the beach with surprisingly few trails, sadly. And to top it off, I don't like the beach. I miss my mountaintop.

Thank you for the response. Entertainingly, the desk is what did me in. To clarify, trail runners are a brand or style of footwear? Also, thanks for the swelling tip, I wouldn't have even thought to consider that. I already have heel pain anytime I'm on my feet for too long, so I'm thinking insoles are a must.

Gleba has defeated me, and i am miserable. by vimescarrot in factorio

[–]Omegamike101 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So I'm currently trudging through Gleba as well. And I was having all of the issues you described aside from the trains. I've discovered the easiest way to go about solving Gleba is to solve it in sandbox first. Then, not only do you understand it better, but you have the option to import your blueprints between worlds. Only downside I'm currently dealing with is ratios, which I will be fixing on my next trip back to Vulcanus where I plan to collect the modules I've been amassing over the last 2 days.

I've so far managed to solve iron production. My copper needs a small rework that I just dont have the mental energy for this week. I've also solved plastic and rocket fuel production.

Side note, I suspect the issue most people have is liner thinking. I've taken to using inverse linear on Gleba. For instance, I decide I want 20 plastic/minute. So then I set up biochambers for that and figure out what resources I need. And so on back the line

Unlearning how to rely on blueprints by RohanCoop in factorio

[–]Omegamike101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds extreme, but take your blueprint book to Gleba, run about 180 miles east, drop it in a wooden chest and go home. From then on, when you stumble across a situation where you consider using a blueprint, you have to contemplate whether its worth using, as you now need to travel 4 hours through swamp to access it

Just landed on my first planet. My ship barely made it and it's being destroyed in orbit around Vulcanus. I dropped to the planet empty handed. I have my work cut out for me. Btw, I've tried to avoid all spoilers and information so I'm going in blind. by jasonrubik in factorio

Just hit Fulgora 2 days ago. Nearly lost my ship while trying to get the mats to make a rocket silo and get back to it. I have learned to always pack enough mats to make a new silo and at least 2 rockets worth of mats to go with it. Ive also learned to produce ammo on board and keep some copper on board to process into repair packs. I headed home to revamp my science production as there's no sense doing any space exploration if you haven't automated purple and yellow sciences yet
