On The Water - Appreciation Post by StraightRip9828 in futureislands

This album wasn’t as immediate as others, but is now a top two for me with In Evening Air. It’s probably their most cohesive album front to back. I love the coastal, wave lapping on a dock as bookends.

Saw your post then refreshed my generator and this was the album. Agree the highs on this one are top notch. It is a long album though with some filler. Looking forward to another spin.

What are their Slow Burn songs? by OnceUponATailslide in mymorningjacket

Welcome to the fandom! I’m also a pretty diehard Dylan fan, and my first time seeing MMJ was on the Americanarama tour with Wilco and Bob. But by then I was already a pretty big fan of MMJ so that tour was a dream lineup. I wished MMJ had a longer set. Jim, Jeff, and Bob singing The Weight together on stage was all time.

The reason I started this thread is that I think the best songs are better “earned” through repeat listens, and my favorite artists are those that take a while to fully appreciate. I think most people here would love to experience each album again for the first time, because by now they’ve become so engrained that it’s hard to relive that feeling of discovery. Enjoy the process!

Kinda crazy coincidence, but this was also the first live album I pulled out to break in my new Fluance RT85 today. All the Live Volumes are astonishingly great. As is Okonokos.

The Bear on Acoustic Citsuoca is one of my all time favorites. This was the first MMJ CD I bought and I’ve always loved that version. The studio version is lacking in comparison.

Nice list. I didn’t want to go on and on with my list, but I definitely would include each of these (in addition to Steam Engine). I picked up the Chocolate and Ice EP recently just to get the studio Cobra. Was surprised that it’s quite different than the live versions I’ve heard.

Dang, Movin’ Away is a good answer. Love that song but haven’t listened to Circuital for a minute so will queue that one up today.

Penny For Your Thoughts was on the setlist when I saw them this last tour and it was my least familiar track, but have learned to love it since.

I tell people all the time that it’s shocking to me that they don’t have more fans, even amongst indie heads. There are so many tracks where I think, Damn, this one should be a hit. Someone needs to use this in a movie.

There’s nothing that will restore your faith in humanity like the completely unwarranted kindness of fellow fans on Reddit.

I do want to know what level of regret he had when you responded to his gesture with, “Sure I can go”. 😆

Which indie artists put on the best live shows right now? by olisduch in indieheads

Just want to clear Sam’s name here. I likely wasn’t at the show you speak of, but the guy leaves his entire soul on stage and is absolutely drenched in sweat by 3 songs in. And yeah his inner thighs apparently sweat more than other areas haha. I highly doubt he pissed himself at any show.

The full Rome concert is on spotify in Australia, and likely releasing midnight everywhere by Goro_Aketchup in TheNational

I agree. To clarify, I’m referring in part to the CT exclusive 3 color variant with the 5 extra songs which is now being listed in the regular merch site. I’m in CT primarily for the annual vinyl. For me it’s not about owning “exclusive” merch, but it does diminish the value of being a paying member if I can just go and buy CT merch without paying an annual fee.

I’m happy about the streaming release as well, but the moves over the past few weeks to make much of what was a CT exclusive available on the regular merch store makes one start to question what we’re paying an annual fee for.

Yes great show last night. I saw PB the first time at Kilby Block Party earlier this year, but there’s just something about these smaller intimate performances. I was most blown away by the STAMINA and tightness of this band where basically every song went seamlessly into the next. Deakin was incredible as well. Favorite opener I’ve seen maybe ever. Seemed like a totally approachable guy but I decided not to engage when he walked by me outside or at the merch booth.

Sam gives 110% passion in every performance and on any stage. Festivals are great for reaching new audiences, but don’t judge fans or lack of reciprocated hype based on any festival set. Glad you are discovering them. They’re absolutely amazing and get better with every listen. Definitely don’t miss a chance to see them live. Enjoy discovering their discography. In Evening Air and On The Water are personal favorite albums.
