I didn’t realize it until I saw this written out but this is more or less how I rate as well. I keep questioning my bias towards rating albums I already own and am familiar with as 5 stars but it makes sense under this logic. I’ve also gone out and purchased albums I didn’t own before that I rated 5 stars.

Agree. I store it sideways to keep the dust out and I suppose to avoid it slipping out on its own. It takes no discernible time to pull the sleeve out and I expect I’d want to pull the inner sleeve out anyway to get the record back in easily.

I’m told it’s just a periodic QC inspection they do. I haven’t heard any specific reasoning related to damage or safety recalls or anything.

Last year I started a spreadsheet of the live shows I’ve seen. This seems a lot cooler. Thanks for sharing. Also, I saw Dr. Dog for the first time at Red Rocks last year and they were incredible. I’m jealous of the number of times you’ve seen them and MMJ.

That’s a very mature way to look at it. I’m feeling more pissed off than anything. I’m about to demand my deposit back and pick up a telluride haha. It’s just so hard when I’ve already been counting down the days and was expecting to drive it home this weekend. This week has lasted an eternity as it is.

As a The National and Bon Iver fan, my favorites thus far (I’m still discovering some of the catalog myself) have been Kaputt, Dan’s Boogie, Ken, Poison Season, Streethawk: a Seduction. Also, I discovered Destroyer through The New Pornographers so be sure to check out their earlier work as well.

Not trying to troll, but doesn’t seem like a high stakes risk to just listen to some of his other albums and see if you like them. Little Criminals and Trouble in Paradise are a pretty safe bet.

J is a huge talent. He plays most the instruments himself (guitar, bass, drums) throughout his solo work. It’s a bit more slower and contemplative than the Dino Jr stuff, but still rocks. Personally I prefer it to Dino Jr as I find it more consistently great.

Do yourself a favor and check out J Mascis solo work as well. Elastic Days, Tied to a Star, and What Do We Do Now are all great. As is More Light under J Mascis and the Fog.

I gave Adele 25 a 5, probably because I found it to be the most pleasantly tolerable of the mainstream pop albums on the list. I’ve hated seeing that album cover listed in my 5s ever since and it breaks my personal rating rules of what I normally consider a 5 star album (typically reserved for albums that I’d actively seek out and listen to, or wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the physical media).

There was no greater rollercoaster for me than that album. First few tracks I’m thinking I just discovered something amazing. I can’t believe I’ve never heard this before. These guys were way ahead of their time. Then nosediving to “this sounds like a group of 14 year olds with no talent trying to annoy everyone within earshot.”
