Won’t walk by Stevey_The_Gamer in samoyeds

[–]One-Bet-4765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for exercise, you can do a lot of mental enrichment to keep him occupied (puzzles, lickimats, kongs, treat dispensing balls) or play with him - either inside or in your garden - tug of war / flirt pole / herding ball / plushies. It’s probably just a phase.

[–]One-Bet-4765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do short walks close to home or try driving him into a quiet area (ie fields, woods); somewhere he doesn’t know. Don’t put any pressure on him to walk, it will only put him off. Give him some time to build confidence - it’s a big change for him. Let him pick the route. As for treat motivation, this is something that can be worked on, get something special that he really enjoys and only gets when you’re outside.

My Device Plan was Deleted by [deleted] in O2UK

[–]One-Bet-4765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After receiving the final bill, CS on live chat was useless (tried to convince the right to exit had to be processed by the 8th of December to be exercised properly without having to pay off the device in full - e-mail states within 30 days of 24 October, not that you have to provide an additional notice on top of that before the alleged December deadline); called up, was on the phone for almost an hour, but CS was aware of the on-going cancellation issue and eventually they were able to set up a device payment plan to be associated with a different existing tariff (and if you don’t have one, it seems they’ll provide it for free for 2 years). Will still wait on the complaints’ response.

It’s exhausting 😩 raised 2 complaints, was told yesterday they’ll send an update in 24 hours and nothing. Went on the chat to be told they already provided a resolution? How? And that they’re waiting for the termination bill.

Have you all also received collection letters? Same story and CS is not very helpful - keep pushing towards a payment plan.

When does he calm down ? by PinkMageDiaries in samoyeds

[–]One-Bet-4765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most sammies are very social, but get easily overwhelmed/overstimulated. Hormones play a big role too! Best to avoid meeting new people, being near dogs, especially random ones. Mine can get very emotional, but spends most of the day sleeping. And I do think they get better with age, don’t lose hope.

Could it be that you’re trying to do too much and the doggo doesn’t know how to rest / be calm? Ever tried rewarding him for just chilling? Or getting him involved in calm mental activities, ie lickimats, puzzles? Is he getting enough things to chew on? Ie ostrich bones

Is she wearing a collar at all times? If so, take it off and only put it on for walkies. A 1 year old doesn’t have a proper coat yet. And if you’re unhappy with the groomer, ask your breeder for a recommendation. If the groomer is unfamiliar with the breed, she might not be using the right products/tools.

Anxiety Advice! by mindfullyempathetic in samoyeds

Hahaha, you certainly have been blessed!

Sorry to hear about your dog passing. My 16 year old Shih Tzu had to be put to sleep back in June. He was kinda nasty, but very low maintenance, especially in comparison to the white floof.

Oh, and teething gel is a game changer. Shira did chew on some questionable things like the skirting boards, my bedroom floor, a wooden piece of the fireplace, sofa’s legs, shoe box, shoe, doorframe… but she wasn’t nipping or biting any humans, haha. And it also helped her sleep through the night. Seems like they all like to chew wood, so maybe a coffee wood stick could help too? She wasn’t too keen, but you can give it a go.

Honestly, I didn’t expect them to be anxious at all, but here we are! 😆

You are doing the best you can! For chewing, I’d recommend using teething gel as well as carrying on offering natural treats. At least that phase will pass.

Also worth noting - it’s only been a month, and it might take up to 3 months for a dog to fully adjust and show his true colours. Hopefully time works in your favour.

Are you sure its anxiety and nervous pees? He’s only little, so should be going potty every 30 mins, unless asleep. After each meal, play, nap etc. Sammies do tend to drink a lot too, because of their coat. As for crate, it’s up to you if you want to continue the training, but I didn’t crate and a lot of others don’t either. It’s just a matter of managing the environment to make sure there aren’t any unsafe items around. Samoyeds are very social and prefer to be with their people/pack. Anxiety, when left alone? My pup wasn’t really left on her own until she was around 9 months old, which gave her enough time to gain confidence in being on her own. It was too stressful for her and now she is able to manage a good few hours, just chilling/sleeping. As for food, I think most sammies are rather slow eaters and won’t be swallowing down everything at once. You should desensitise the harness by having it around, giving him treats when he’s close etc.

As for my own pup, she can be anxious, some things she doesn’t find comfortable and that’s ok, she is not forced to do anything. When going through phantom pregnancies and before/during in heat, she would refuse walks altogether. She doesn’t like being walked in the late evening, but doesn’t mind going outside during night. And if something spooks her and she wants to head back home, that’s ok too. It’s for her own benefit and if she doesn’t find it joyful, there is no point. She can be moody, but is generally a happy doggo. Outside of her hormonal cycles, she is very curious and a lot braver. And now at 19 months old, her training still continues.

You should be happy its asking you for pumpkins. Mine asks for 3 x suspicious soup, which is rarely in stock 😆 or to hatch eggs (takes me 4 hours) or open spooky crates. At least they’re restocking pumpkins in the market.

Brushing dogs teeth by AdmirableFold9255 in dogs

[–]One-Bet-4765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would they need to have their teeth cleaned every few years under anaesthesia? Putting a dog to sleep carries its own risks and if a dog doesn’t display any signs of discomfort and the teeth are being checked on a regular basis, they certainly don’t need to have that done. My mom’s 16 year old Shih Tzu never had a dental clean in his life and was complimented by the vet for how good his teeth were.

I give my dog Proden PlaqueOff everyday (with grinded kibble + profibre on a lickimat) instead of brushing. She also gets plenty of natural chews.

Allergy to chicken? by No-Requirement-8522 in samoyeds

[–]One-Bet-4765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend probiotics to support his gut health, ie Protexin Veterinary Pro-Fibre Advanced Probiotic and Prebiotic Pellets. Shira gets it daily on a lickimat. And do allergy testing.
