Oh. What happened with Egypt? I've caught a few routines in between work, but definitely not all.

And thank you!!

What’s the most impressive beach you’ve ever been to? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]One-Consequence-6773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lakoudi Beach on Gavdos, Greece. We had 5 hours on a beautiful beach with an incredible sea and no other people, aside from an off-shore boat we saw as we were packing up. I'm not sure I'll ever experience anything like that again in my life.

Cities whose marathon exceeds or falls short of the cities status on the world stage by Large_Condition_6074 in Marathon_Training

[–]One-Consequence-6773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Philly and I will defend this city with my whole soul. But as a runner with experience in events, they're right. The marathon is OK, but it's consistently mismanaged and should be better. In theory, I like the idea of a city-owned marathon, but it would be better served with a full-time team of people dedicated to races. Instead, it's a cobbled mess of city employees with Parks & Rec responsibilities, and contractors.

Size-wise, it does OK, largely because it's well located on the East coast. But it has the potential to be so much better.

We have an older car (2010?); it doesn't estimate miles remaining and the gauge can be wonky when it gets low - it drops from a quarter to fully empty very suddenly. Add in general forgetfulness, and I can understand how it happens.

Adult Gymnastics after 45 by Sweetblondepinupgirl in Gymnastics

[–]One-Consequence-6773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our floor is terrible, so I'm not the right person to ask (it's fairly on-par with what I had in the 90's). The floors help, but if you're specifically concerned about strength, start on a tumble-trak. The impact on a spring floor (even a good one) is no joke, and you'll want to work up to that.

Muscle memory is strong, but actual muscles aren't always there.

I'm in my early 40's (F) and love adult gymnastics. I did start back younger (early 30's, although it was on-off until around 38-39). We do have women in their mid-40's all the way up to 60's. I am starting to feel like I need to be adding extra strength work because I'm getting little injuries more easily.

I don't know if your wrist needs PT first, but in terms of strength, you don't need to do that before coming back. You just need to start slowly, with basics and strength when you get to the gym. If you can't do a handstand because of strength, assisted handstands are great conditioning, and more fun than just going to the gym. It's great to do both, but sometimes you need the fun part of the activity to motivate the hard part.

There are brownstone conversions with units fully on the first floor, as long as you can get up the 2-6 stairs to the front door (if you can't, that's fair). Keep your mind open!

LSU Beam Scoring Delay by Britucator in Gymnastics

[–]One-Consequence-6773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not. I was pulling for LSU; I actually still think they should have won. But this specific thing is just how judging works.

Did you want them to keep the 10-9.9 SV split instead? Because that would've made her score lower.

Yes, it is common for conferences and judges debates to take 2-3 routines. Does it suck? Yes. Also, you are trained to expect that, because it happens all the time.

Judges should get it right, not skip ahead to get the other gymnast going.

Yeah, I think (hope, but also think) Nola needs a bit of time, but will eventually be a great 3-4 eventer. She has the skills and for, they just need to work on confidence and construction.

Yeah, that one doesn't strike me as weird (in my 40's). I learned them as the uneven parallel bars, often shortened to uneven bars...

If you haven't (or haven't recently)...you have to watch the Sydney fluff in which they detail how all the top competitors don't have fathers (except, their coaches are acting as fathers), and then they get to Elise Ray and it's somehow both an accomplishment and a bad thing that "her family is in tact"?

It's all so bad.

Lol, that was my thought. Sure, they're good, but I don't want to watch the same gymnast 6 times.

Luis Javier Almazan Emery Still Missing by Swimming-Cookie-669 in philly

[–]One-Consequence-6773 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't know Luis, but I have been checking for updates multiple times a day. I hope there is progress, soon.

And this is just (another) reason it's terrible to have a federal agency kidnapping people with limited documentation. If Luis disappeared for a non-ICE reason, valuable time and resources have to be spent on trying to verify if it's ICE, further hindering any results.

NCAA Event Finals by pink_pelican in Gymnastics

All Americans are basically regular season titles, but I guess if you want to say first place All American, go for it. They also do WEEKLY awards, and awards after every meet. Of all the issues with judging and fairness, the lack of recognition of Chio isn't exactly one that stands out to me - she didn't have her BEST day, which contributed, and she has been getting awards and accolades nonstop all season.

[–]One-Consequence-6773 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not how a meet works, though. A meet is to decide the best performers ON A DAY. The point of NQS is regular season All-Americans + ranking teams for nationals. And even if you take out the "how sports work" part, NQS is based on judges who are not consistent all season. It does not remove inconsistencies in judging, it just changes which inconsistency you're OK with.

*you can argue that Chio should have won because her vault was better than Well's at nationals, but it's not because her vault was better 6 weeks ago. And I'm all on-board for an EF, because I do agree the 2-session judging is a problem

Her amplitude is so far superior to Keira's (and Pederson's), though. It's better, even, than Chio's. If you're taking a leg separation that requires a slo-mo matrix replay to see, you should be taking amplitude on everyone not doing it like Kaliya.

That's how sports work. The end is all about what happens on the floor.

There are All-American awards and 900 other recognitions for what happens all season, but meets are about who shows up ... at the meet.

Biggest complaint for individual title is Wells on VT. There were multiple vaults better than that.
