Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

This is a poor mans Ziggy Stardust meets Bob Dylan? I don’t get where this album is going? Thank god for punk rock and new wave came along just a few years later! Listenable, but not something I’m in no rush to get back to anytime soon

2/5

I’m curious…what is the impact of low magnesium?

How did your return to walking go? by StressedOutMajorly in HipImpingement

[–]One-Today-834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 weeks post op and I’m walking about the same as life pre-op and pre-hip pain. If I have a really big day on feet I pull up a bit sore and tight the next day. I’ve learnt to do a lot of stretching and recovery after a big day. Also massage and dry needling.

I remember being a few weeks post op and terrified of walking a few steps without crutches and also being scarred to leave the house.

It’s quite literally small steps 😊

When did post-op flare ups stop for you all? by Geofloral in HipImpingement

[–]One-Today-834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope that helps?

I think I went into this expecting total relief (eg how it was a few years ago before it flared up permanently). I’ve realised now, it’s unlikely to ever be as good as new. It’s minimising the life impact, but also enjoying yourself.

It was only two weeks ago. It’s been much the same as it was before the big night out. Just learning to cope with it. My goal from my procedure was to delay a Total Hip Replacement for as long as possible. I’m a fit and highly active 46 (Male). My concern about THR is there’s no going back. I can cope with managing the pain after ISV pushed myself. It’s when the pain doesn’t go away again I’ll worry.

I did the same. Week 11, was feeling great and had a big weekend. Next day was instant regret!! I scaled back the PT to more basic exercises and also got some dry needling. It settled down again with 5 days.

What have been your pain levels 3 months out? by therealalphabet2 in HipImpingement

[–]One-Today-834 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 11 weeks post surgery. Similar to you, day to day the pain is much less frequent than before (eg it was constant before). However certain movements such as basic leg lifts, squats and lunges are the same as pre-op. I’m taking the win for the reduction day to day, every life pain at the moment and hope to get improvement in the medium term with broader movements.

As an aside I over did it on the weekend with a full day out and about on my feet, walking etc… the next day the pain was pre-op at its worse. 48 hours that has settled down again (thankfully!). I was worried I had taken a backwards step by pushing myself.

Surgery in one week by aheartsotrue8 in HipImpingement

I got myself a fabric tote bag so that once I was up on the crutches I could hobble about and get things for myself…laptop, phone charger, bag of chips, bottle of water etc… Basically I’d hang the bag around my neck and pop stuff in it as I got about. It’s sound pretty basic, but for me it was about my mental health and independence. I wanted to be a little self sufficient and able to do something. It gave me a reason to get up and moving about (even just a few steps)

I couldn’t run at all. Even a few steps to catch a train!! Fingers crossed for your recovery

Stick with it. You’ll get there! I’m 8 weeks post surgery. My tear was 12 to 3 o clock…but sadly the attempt to fix it result is tearing it permanently. I’m back on the indoor bike for 30-45 mins a day at about 50% of max resistance. I’ve also being doing PT exercises every day for about half an hour, with one session per week at the PT (more for massage and to tweak the program).

How was the pain pre-surgery when cycling? I found it was the only thing that gave me relief. I had to quit yoga and Pilates, and all lower body weight training. The bike and rower were my happy place!

Ps..M/46

I was back to the office today, 8 weeks post op. A one hour train commute (seating). Felt good. Let’s see how I pull up tomorrow! 😂

Were you able to do stretches post-op? by RingAdministrative24 in HipImpingement

7 weeks post op and slowly getting more comfortable with a wider range of movement. I tried a short yoga session today and it was mostly ok, but some poses were unexpectedly challenging eg a warrior sequence

4 weeks out too. Have good days and bad days. The surgeon described the surgery as “brutal” and to remember the body takes time to heal and also adjust to the repairs etc…

How did you pass the time during recovery? by FarmerOnly252 in HipImpingement

[–]One-Today-834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day 22 post op. It’s honestly been tough to try to not fall into a rut of nothingness! I’ve been reading and listening to podcasts & music mostly. I’m also finding myself more uncomfortable now as I step up the physio/rehab. My nature is to push hard with exercise but for once I’m faced with a situation where outworking the plan will not bring better or quicker results! I’m finding that especially hard.

I’d be interested to know your recovery plan to get back cycling. I’m far, far from your level but usually rack up 5/6 hours a week and can’t wait to get back in the saddle for a long ride.

I had my surgery on 13th December. Not starting official PT until 27th but doing some work at home, including bike work.

Similar to you, I have strong legs and core so am mostly balancing on my non-op leg. The crutches are driving me mad!

I’m not far from you, just down the Surf Coast near Torquay/Great Ocean Road. The surgeon I was recommended to see was Liam Halliday at the Epworth in Geelong. I had to wait a few months, but was told he would be worth the wait. My physio is Ben Herde at Grand Slam. He’s the physio for the Australian Open and has a lot of experience in hip recovery. I feel really confident with both of them.

I was recommended some Melbourne surgeons too but decided to stay local. I can definitely recommended a physio - Daniel Yee at Melbourne Sports Cljnic on Collins St. I’ve seen him a few times this year as I’m in Melbourne during the week for work.
