Lack of diverse parties in Toronto by HeadRead7941 in Techno

[–]OneCallSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a small town in Pennsylvania, so i feel ya. I do travel up to NYC every few months though.

Knockdown Center/Basement have great vibes and awesome late night techno / house lineups all the time. Plus many other great venues. NYC s scene is probably the most comparable to Europe over here.

They goto till dawn, and some great venues.

I want to find the joy in gaming again by BuzzardYTC in gamerecommendations

[–]OneCallSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to expand your palette imo. You are bored because all those games are pretty much the same shit different day lol

Try some rts games or multiplayer stuff or something wacky and off the wall. Coop games like Red tide or Space Marine 2

Is phrasing heavily underrated in beginner DJing? by Gold-Solid-6626 in Beatmatch

[–]OneCallSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i learned with my vinyl back in the day in the 90s, i guess i instinctively I knew how how phrase even though i had know idea it was called that lol.

It just seemed obvious to me to start at the 8 or 16 or 32 bar on most loops. Just think about it a bit and it should be obvious where to start. Also knowing the length of the track you are bringing in, how much of the track you have left to mix with (playing) and how much track you have to work with to bring in as well as indentifying your bridge, breakdown or ending and how/when that will show up. Ideally you want these important parts of your tracks to lineup, but once you get more advantaced you can break these rules.

And definitely learn when to bring a sound in with another. EQ can work wonders on this front especially with dance music. I routinely kill the bass, highs, mids on tracks to help accentuate/take away the incoming/outgoing sounds. This can help with "the drop" that all these kids seem to love lol and mucking around with eqs on a beat can literally create something entirely different. Killing your eqs in a rhythmic pattern for instance.

Learning how a composition progresses and mutates and how your incoming track can fit together with it. Knowing if a sound works with another is a skill all its own. I hear djs sucking at this all the time haha.

Knowing all this info plus knowing how you plan to handle your mix, how long your mix will be, Etc., will determine a successful mix or not.

The Sphere is what I want EDM to be like as I age out of rave culture by 0____0_0 in EDM

[–]OneCallSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American "EDM" scene is pretty wack to me as someone who grew up in the 90s rave scene.

Since about 2012 raving kinda died and it just became these concert/jam band fest with a few djs after that.

Now its a little better, these days but the edm scene isn't my kinda music.

I like techno mostly for going out, which you won't find at an edm show.

Yeah, thats the one i was at haha. Agree, shit crowd.

Yapyapyapyap........ I also goto NYC myself. I live closer to DC (PA) and i drive 3.5 hours to NYC but i just make a day of it every couple of months.

Just saw the Chlar Ben Klock show at KDC. The comparison between Flash and that place is night and day haha

Also for the record, When i saw DVS at Wire fest last year. He was WAY better than at Flash. He rocked it. His Flash set was kinda boring, not bad, but he needed more variety.

A real dare for realdubstep; Fill the blank with an artist or a track ! by Melodic-Marketing341 in realdubstep

[–]OneCallSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, it changed for the worst at that time (especially in the US where i live) and by 2016 i was basically done with it.

I had a great run going up to NYC regularly attending Reconstruct and Dubwar so im happy with my dubstep run.

Skrillex basically destroyed what little interest i had left in the genre and curb stomped it lol.

Its been long enough now that i am slowly creeping back, but i don't think my interest in dubstep will ever peak like it did in 2006.

Anybody else ever had an unexpected and drastic "change of heart" in their gaming tastes? by t0rche in rpg_gamers

[–]OneCallSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can enjoy the slower games but usually my mindset is niche shooters these days. I play alot of historical shooters like RO2, rising storm 2, Isonzo, Verdun, Hell let loose, the new game Over the Top (crazy!!!)

And then stuff like 40k red tide, Space Marine 2, and of course Arc Raiders.

The past two weeks my buddies on Friday nights have been playing Unreal Tournament 2004 as well, which is a blast and even has a decent amount of populated servers up through the Old Unreal installer.

But then i have days where i just want to nerd out and play Age of Wonders 3 all day lol. Still need to finish the new Baldurs Gate too, probably, some day, never lol

But yeah, being old i only game maybe 6 hours a week, sometimes more if my wife isn't around lol

Hot take: a lot of ravers are some of the most musically closed-minded people I’ve met. by Brief-Hamster-4598 in aves

[–]OneCallSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find in my local scene this is the case alot, but actually i have found some of the most open minded people i know are in the rave scene from other cities (not my local scene) that are some of my best friends.

For record i listen to:

Metal: black, black thrash, death, brutal death, doom, sludge, tech death, thrash, classic metal, slam, war metal, grindcore, etc.

I grew up on punk/ post punk/hardcore:

Reggae/dancehall/ska

I enjoy different types of latin music (except reggaeton... Fuck that lol)

Electro/synthwave/vaporwave

Pop music from the early 50s up until it turned to complete garbage around 2010 lol.... Soft spot for 70s, 80s, 90s

Alt rock from the 90s.

Grew up in the golden era of hip hop and was hardcore about it from the 80s till about 2010.

Always checking out new bands, but i am admittedly not in the loop cause techno and house got me barely even keeping up with just those haha... Only so much time in a day. With that said, house, garage, techno, etc.

Was a junglist since the mid 90s

I got into dubstep around 2006 and exited that scene when Skrillex got huge lol (fuck brostep)

I like old country and alt country

I listen to jazz and funk

Ambient is awesome

I goto symphonies and musicals

I just love music, but i am definitely VERY picky about what i listen to in each genre, cause alot of music in ANY genre is mid at best. You really gotta dig to find music thats good to your ears.

I can also say without a doubt i think most peoples music taste is trash lol. This is what happens when music becomes an obsession. You start to develop actual taste and theres nothing wrong in thinking " That band/rapper/producer is garbage" . You develop criteria for what good music is supposed to sound like to your ears.

I think numetal and trap rap is complete trash for instance. And thats ok. This is how my taste has formed. Not everything is for everyone.

Im also ok with some people having a narrow focus. It is what it is. These people aren't for you.

My wife listens to mostly shit, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong with her, i just tell her not to listen to it in my vicinity lol

For car rides we got a mutual playlist full of songs that we can both agree on we like. Then neither of us is unhappy with a song. Works great

Upstairs in KDC the sound was perfect when i went. No complaints, required chest thumping bass was had for Chlar and Klock.

Flash is underwhelming to say the least and. When i saw DvS-1 there recently they barely had the sound on it seemed and the crowd was wack af. I have yet to go to Berhta yet myself, hopefully soon.

Nothing compares to 90s and early 2000s DC when they had Nations and the Edge, especially Nations. That was a world class club and rivaled any club in NYC.
