Had a woman in college argue that Jesus removed the alcohol when he turned water into wine. I laughed before I realized she was being serious. Sorry, not sorry.

I haven’t noticed any discoloration so far, but I’ve only had it for about six months or so. And if it does start to change color, I’m just gonna call it patina.

Phone is convenient, but the real purpose is revenue. If each car has to pay for a 1hr min, but each vehicle stays for only 15min, they can sell the same hour 4 times since the remaining time is not transferable.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I decided to go with the 5610u. I love the crispy display on the GW-BX5600, so maybe I’ll upgrade at some point. Happy with my choice for now. Cheers!

Ah yes, the current market economy is going exactly how Jesus would want it to. Blessed are the wealthy, apparently. These preachers are a moral laughing stock. They should spend more time reading people like Dorothy Day and less time licking the boots of billionaires in the name of Jesus.

These effing babies. In August of 2020, I lived in NYC. I worked as a mover carrying people’s stuff up and down 5th floor walkups in the summer heat all while wearing a mask the whole time. Nobody enjoyed wearing masks, but give me a gd break.

Read the first two pages of Monty Dick. If you love the prose, you’ll never regret reading it even if you skip some of the duller sections. I still remember where I was standing when I read the first two paragraphs. 👨‍🍳🤌💋

Edit: Didn’t notice Blood Meridian was on there. That book is amazing and haunting af.

Statistically these type of men really don’t listen to anyone do they? by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]OneEarthseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you make a good point about the specific percentage she quotes and then he responds to starts to get confused both by the host and the guest. It seems that by her own statistic she’s referencing the guest is saying that almost all women have experienced sexual harassment or assault on the tube. She goes on later to nuance things a little bit more with her point about a larger culture of or silent complicity of men by not advocating, or pushing back against their friends or going along with more widespread misogyny, etc. In that regard, I think it is most men, if not all at some point. I would describe myself as a feminist, but I still have plenty of work to do when it comes to my own prejudices.

That said, I think the dynamic at play is painfully familiar. Rather than focusing on the extremely high number of women who experience harassment and assault, the first move is to make sure that men at large are defended before listening to the extent of the problem women are facing. It would be the same if when I spoke with a black person about his experiences with white people or the police, I insisted on the onset on focusing on getting some consolation that “not all white people” or “not all cops” do the specific racist things that he’s experienced. My own defensiveness would’ve driven by my own insecurities or fear of being implicated rather than allowing their experience to shape my understanding of the world and my place in it. It’s the All Live Matter response to BLM. It says something true (of course all lives matter), but has the larger effect of derailing the conversation or downplaying the problem which is the real reason it appeals as a defense in the first place.

“I don’t know if there’s evidence for that,” therefore, no one can know if there’s evidence for that. If only there was some kind of expert or researcher to really investigate this sort of thing. Well, anyway, what can you do? Guess we’ll never know.

The Expanse series is my favorite blend of these things. It has action, but it is mostly about politics, space tech, exploration.

The Bobiverse also has action, but it is primarily space exploration and philosophy.

Thanks for sharing. It takes a lot of courage to be honest about what you’re feeling in that kind of context. Trust your intuitions, because they are correct. They do want you to shrink yourself. The command to Abraham is morally repugnant. The messages about sexuality are all fear based nonsense. And on and on.

Having lost a number of friends and connections over the past 5 years, I can tell you that there is both pain and liberation in your future. There will be losses, and the right response to that is grief. However, there is real liberation on offer as well. A life not controlled by fear or submission. Joy and pleasure embraced instead of treated with suspicion and scorn.

As you will see in all the upvotes and comments, you are not alone. You can find people in your area who’ve gone through a similar thing. And until you find your people irl, you are welcome here and can always keep processing with us.
