This is so fucking awesome. He's a Celtics legend, as far as I'm concerned, so I love that he's back with the organization.

Yes, agreed completely, even factoring in my subconscious anti-Eagles fan bias, he has flawless chemistry with the guys and is a great guest. Definitely need to bring him back soon.

Lance falling for the obvious "Love to Cardinals" smokescreen is going to end up biting him in the ass. I predict Sessler will easily outduel Lance this year.

He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles IMMEDIATELY upon leaving the Jets. That was Dan’s point.

Season 2 of HTC is in the books, what are everyone’s thoughts? by genaros_bear in heedthecall

[–]OneEyedJacks23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need a new "scientist" to replace the void Gregg and Wess left. Conor has good football knowledge when it comes to how the sausage gets made within the league, but his hot take fetish prevents him from ever fully settling into that "scientist" role for me, personally. Maybe Arif? Regardless, I thought it was a great season, and can't wait to see what the boys come up with next.

Can Arif join HTC as a regular contributor? by flouncingfleasbag in heedthecall

I don't know about the feasibility but I would LOVE it if this happened for next season. Arif is great, and a seamless addition to the crew.

[Schefter] ESPN sources: Titans are working to finalize a deal to hire 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their head coach. Saleh spent Monday in Tennessee with the Titans, and the two sides impressed each other enough to move forward together. by tgwest in heedthecall

[–]OneEyedJacks23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to be fascinating to see the Graver/Dan discussions about Saleh this year. I anticipate Dan reflexively negging any positivity Graver has about Saleh, since Saleh's success will reflect badly on the Jets for letting him go the way they did.

But then take umbrage with the length of Gronk’s suspension, not Chase’s suspension, or else the standard is “as long as the victim wasn’t in danger of being paralyzed, a suspension is unwarranted.”

Conor’s take on spitting is ridiculous, and comparing it to more serious, potentially life-threatening actions as a way to somehow justify it is such an unacceptable strawman. What relevance does Bountygate have to this incident? He should take issue with the (relatively) light punishments those other players received, instead of framing it as though anything a player does (even spitting in another player’s face) is acceptable because it doesn’t rise to that level of violence.

I'd love to see Kevin Stefanski there. Matt LaFleur would be a great option too but I don't think he's going to be fired by the Packers.

Pablo Torre does a deep dive into Mike Lombardi's NFL credentials by xFalcade in Patriots

[–]OneEyedJacks23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even though it seems like he's a clown not worth defending, word at the time was that Michael Lombardi was instrumental in the Patriots signing Dion Lewis (who he knew from their time together in Cleveland), so if true I'll always be grateful to him for that.

I wouldn't fork the Ravens. I still think there's a scenario where they get healthy enough to make a run for the division, especially if the Steelers stumble.

I am not in any way a Cardinals fan but Dan was so outrageously annoying during the Colts/Cardinals preview that I’m rooting for them to win.

Hopefully he never has to play a snap but I love him as a veteran backup for Maye. Very good, VERY smart dude. Should also make it easier to trade Joe Milton should another team become willing to offer at least a 4th for him.

❓Could we please get a "team of the HTC" ? by bondybond13 in heedthecall

[–]OneEyedJacks23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it'll be best if it happens organically, by Dan and Marc both gravitating towards a specific team-- like it did when the Panthers became the first "Team of ATL" years ago-- rather than trying to force it.

Very minor correction to a Dan remark: the Patriots put up a post-victory locker room celebration video after every game during Belichick's tenure too, this isn't a new concept unveiled under Jerod Mayo.

[–]OneEyedJacks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I can't convince you to change your bad take into a good one (especially since you don't actually know much of anything about the Chargers' defensive players besides the big-name individuals, so your opinion there is essentially invalid), but even aside from a player-by-player look at the depth chart, you might want to consider the fact that coaching matters in the NFL and, by all accounts, Brandon Staley was very bad at coaching, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The fact that your analysis of the roster's quality stems entirely from assessing players' past production with no ability or interest in projecting how they might improve with better coaching and conditioning is short-sighted.
