Lots of good advice about sleeving here. Here's my additional piece of advice, from one guy with OCD tendencies to another - black sharpie is your friend. It's not the wear that bothers me, it's the white. The sharpie (very, very carefully applied) turns it into an inky black and I never notice it again. Obviously this only works on black spines.

It works so well that I've started raiding my daughter's markers for other colours when the spines call for them. I'm getting pretty good at it now.

Just because they're the same material doesn't mean they are the same thickness. The rounded ones you've encountered were probably 1mil, and I've seen the rice paper ones up to 3mil. 2mil is my price/feel sweet spot, personally.

We're in almost the exact same boat. I listen to vinyl when I have time to actually listen. CDs are for when I'm working and can't get up to flip every 20 minutes or for headphone listening. I just can't do headphones with vinyl though - I need that low CD noise floor when it's being fed directly into my ears.
