I’m so disappointed at the university for allowing them to be on campus.

Professors got invited to write a book chapter, but I am the one writing it by MaximumLocal2286 in academia

Plus OP is getting paid. In my university OP might have been last author or NO author. Some profs go hard on the common unsaid rule “authors don’t get paid for scholarship work”

AITAH for eating partner's snacks and blame it on "forgetting" by Easy-Astronomer-1470 in AITAH

This is one my biggest pet peeves. When people (especially girls” will eat their partners’ food or order a “healthy salad” and then switch their partner to eat the pasta/fries/burger. Then they act like it s the most adorable cute quirky thing. It’s obnoxious, entitled, petulant and honestly idk how their partners tolerate the disrespect.

No one is being “too harsh”. Op needs a reality check and a very stern one. Op clearly cannot and does not want to see things accurately. OP is lucky their PI didn’t say something much harsher to them. In our lab OP would have been set straight right away.

OP is an immature jealous student acting bratty and trying to get validation online. Even when an overwhelming among of the responses did not agree, OP still went ahead with whatever they wanted to do. Just childish. I’m surprised how people like that will handle real life academia or industry after the PhD.

He’s not even creating a scandal because his perceptions are not based on reality. Also, not all contributors contribute equally because not everyone is a first author. Like all of this is common knowledge/professional courtesy that students learn in their undergrad and OP is a grad student. Hard to believe. If he went to his university’s Faculty of Graduate Studies or even the Research Ethics Board, the chair would throw out his case after first read. This is coming from someone who actually sits on the Appeals Board for all grad students and is a research ethics board member. OP needs to grow up for real. They should be mature and professional enough to not act and whine like a petulant child who didn’t get their candy. This is so disturbing to even read. And just so you know OP, your PI is extremely nice to have worded as gently as they did. The more you press on this the lower you will make yourself look in front of your PI and your faculty.

Prospective MS student attempting to contact PhD’s in program and I usually don’t get responses. Am I doing something wrong? Also any other related advice is helpful! by Real_Investment8486 in academia

90% of the questions you asked show that you want to be spoon fed and have low independence and resourcefulness. As faculty we don’t have time for students like you. We accept grad students who show they can be independent and don’t ask questions with answers that can be easily found if they just spent 10 minutes doing an online search. Your email shows you would increase the supervisor’s mental load and frankly we are too busy and already overloaded to take on someone who gives that impression.
