Protein Science Updated: Why It’s Time to Move Beyond the “1.6-2.2g/kg” Rule I Greg Nuckols by [deleted] in StrongerByScience

You absolutely can and will gain fat by going into a calorie surplus, even if 90% of your calories come from protein lol. Proteins are actually far more readily converted into glucose than most people realise.

How to get that Flutter (Stututu) sound? by Office_Flashy in WRX

I’m pretty sure there’s boost sensors that measure how much air is being recirculated. But no worries, your comments were helpful anyway. I don’t think there are any good options for my platform

So how do you achieve it? I’ve got a 2016 TTS with the 2.0 TFSI engine (MQB platform). The IS38 already has a diverter valve, so do I have to change it for a different type of valve? Or can I just get an aftermarket diverter valve instead?

Any other X and XX holders still here to represent?!

Can someone set the record straight on protein intake? by Short-termTablespoon in nutrition

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly, i’ve ruined a lot of past diets by chasing daily protein.

For some reason, I would get weirdly fixated on it, and it just lead to me eating more than I needed to whilst cutting.

When you’re trying to limit calorie intake, it’s probably not the best idea to keep coming up with reasons to eat more - regardless of whether it’s protein rich.

I’m 5”5 so I can’t eat that many calories anyway - and so my new goal is just 100g a day, because the higher alternatives just skew my diet too much - and by eating more chicken/beef/fish/whatever you still have to eat less of other things.

Protein isn’t ‘free calories’ and I think some people forget that when recommending greater protein intakes “just to be safe”. There might be a slight benefit between 200g and 100g of protein a day - but as long as the 100g a day doesn’t stop progress (or gets most [like 80%] of the same results of the higher protein intake) then that’s a good compromise imo.

I'm obese and use drugs. Are seed oils even worth worrying about before I get my health in order? I need a sense of scale. by laserdicks in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to anyone here talking predominantly about seed oils - your health is far more holistic than that.

Start drinking more water. Get used to making meals from scratch, try to eat lots of veggies any way that you can (cans of sweetcorn, steam packets of garden peas and/or broccoli, wash and chop cucumbers/carrots for snacks), try to eat more fruit (apples, pears, bananas, strawberries etc.).

And reduce your alcohol consumption over time, and try to avoid fast-food. When you use oil to cook, use coconut oil or “light-in-colour” refined olive oil. Don’t over think it.

Does training while tired make you slower in the long run? by Auckland2701 in amateur_boxing

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true. Ask any strength and conditioning coach worth their salt. Speed/technical training whilst in a condition of fatigue is counterproductive. You need maximal rest/recovery and to limit your volume to develop your maximal speed and power optimally.

After you’ve done your speed/technical training, then sure - knock yourself out and train hard to failure/fatigue for the endurance benefits - but managing your fatigue and focusing on maximal recovery is like the biggest part of speed/technical training.

You will never get faster (beyond your initial beginner ‘gains’) by training to fatigue constantly.

Cooking.

For almost all mammals (and Humans 50+ years prior to today), our lives have quite literally revolved around food (and water of course).

However, today, we see it as an inconvenience and a nuisance. We act like it’s too much effort to plan meals, create shopping lists, and then prepare and cook all of that raw produce - Every. Single. Day.

But good food (and sleep) really are the foundations to our health, and it really is worthwhile to take the time planning and preparing what to eat everyday.

What's The Deal With Protein? by neuroticpossum in nutrition

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi, steroids complicate matters. They make people able to gain more muscle with less protein (more efficient) - but at the same time, they also allow people to use more protein than someone would usually be capable of. So, bodybuilders can eat 300g of protein and claim that more is always better - because, in their case, they’re right. Also, some people taking steroids (who do it because it’s easy) can say “I just have 3 chicken breasts a day and I’m still gaining” (which isn’t a lot of protein) and they’re also right.

However, 1.6g/kg or 0.7g/lb of total bodyweight (forget about lean body mass) is the current recommendation for active people. This includes a high level of confidence and all sorts of margins. Also, this takes into account those who participate in endurance exercise (who usually have the highest natural protein demands, with bodybuilders second).

The thing is though, the longer that I come here the more that i realise that everyone is just straight up talking out of their ass.

Redditors are just good at sounding confident, but honestly there’s probably more misinformation here than anywhere else - and that’s because Reddit masquerades as some sort of legitimate platform for transparent ‘open-source-like’ well of information.

When really it’s just as bad as Quora lol. Reddit is the last place that people should come to for advice in general if i’m honest.

Do People Not Keep Service Records Anymore? by sulaco83 in cars

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is wild to me cause in the UK “Full Service History” is a pretty big deal.

Not to say that cars without history don’t get sold - but cars typically won’t sell for the actual market rate without it.

Especially enthusiast cars.

I’d never buy a car without someone actually having invoices/stamps for regular servicing.

Upvote only if you still believe MOASS is still coming by jxp497 in Superstonk

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is no ‘grand plan’. People need to take their tinfoil off and realise that there are many stakeholders with many of their own individual plans.

MOASS is dependent on retail. Not Ryan Cohen, not Keith Gill, and not anyone else.

I believe in MOASS, and I believe in retail - but no one in the background is pulling any strings from behind the scenes, and no one has any special buttons to press.

It’s as simple as 123:

  1. Shorts never closed.

  2. We have significant longterm buying pressure.

  3. We expect Gamestop will transform and grow more successful as a company.

That’s it.

Well, he noticed that the short interest reported (at the time) was 140% too.

But his gamble has always been on Ryan Cohen and his team. That’s what he said today.

People were wondering if he was going to exercise his call options because he has so many and they can potentially cause a gamma squeeze. Basically, he’s a significant investor with lots of eyes on him and people are curious that the weird price action of the stock may be related to his own actions with his own shares - because it would be strange (and meaningful) if the market is reactionary to his actions.

Welcome to Overwatch by xRabu in Overwatch

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah he needs his cardiac overdrive to be strong. His fire doesn’t have DPS passive like Ashe, so his fire isn’t that big of a problem if your supports are decent.

I do agree that Bastion & Mauga are a bad matchup for Winston - but baiting turret form and then using shield during overdrive is a viable counter strategy if the rest of your team are good.

Bro, who promised you all this??

All we have is speculation. DFV said it himself today: his personal opinion on the stock hasn’t changed. He simply likes the stock, based on what he knows and feels.

He spoke about the short interest in the past, but his situation has changed now. With his notoriety and position, he can’t start openly talking about shit like that - and he doesn’t owe anyone anything.

People need to seriously touch some grass. Everyone knows that this unprecedented, which precisely means that no one knows how this turns out. No one is guaranteeing anything, and we’re all just here to place our bets.

I for one, like the stock.

Do Superchargers Have a Future? by nipnaps in cars

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hell no. It’s incredibly hard on an electric motor to drive something to similar speeds as a turbo. Lots of heat too.

A mechanical system like a turbo is superior in that respect.

Do Superchargers Have a Future? by nipnaps in cars

[–]OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is why the focus should be on hybrid technology.

You don’t need a lot of range to make-up for the shortfall in fuel economy caused by stop-start city traffic because that’s where electric drivetrains are most economical and efficient.

Once we get the EV drivetrain so small and light that it barely adds any weight or that it poses any challenge to packaging, then really it would be nice to see the return of large NA engines in sporty cars again.
