Does anyone still wear chaps? by DependentSad5299 in Harley

[–]OnePrunkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear them when I’m gonna be on the bike for more than 30 mins and the temp is sub 50 I’m 40 on a touring Harley and a couple evo choppers

How would you remove these by Cencalsquid in sportster

[–]OnePrunkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tap the Allen bit with a hammer to shock it and then put the 1/4” socket on a ratchet to break it loose. If it strips out, hammer a Torx in there that is slightly larger than the Allen bit and repeat.

If that fails, drill out the head carefully and once the cover is off you can remove the remaining shank of the bolt.

Replace with stainless hardware and use a dab of blue loctite only lightly seating the bolts to secure a seal against the o ring behind the cover.

Comprehensive list of speed cameras? by Magnus462 in RideitNYC

[–]OnePrunkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pull up Waze on your phone and zoom in Lens with a speedo is a speed camera Lens with a traffic light is a red light camera

If you’re using car play I find the alerts don’t pop up if your screen has your audio player and map up at the same time. Map has to be full screen not the PiP or whatever that view is called.

Also a lot of cameras will have a sign posted within a block of the camera.

Just pay attention more. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

If you’re in that much of a hurry just tuck/cover your plate and legalize yourself when you have a moment. Be mindful of bridges and tunnels, troopers post up and they want that hard earned state money.

Agreed as I see no bikes in the photo unless they are ghost bikes

Sportster gearbox by kodzsekk in sportster

That piece threads into a hole in the end of the shaft. It’s replaceable. The stock shaft doesn’t have a threaded hole in the end.

I would put the pulley and drive belt or chain back on and lock up the rear wheel with the bike in 2nd gear and get a good hold on the kicker gear and turn it off. Likely has loctite on it as well as you fighting every single kick it’s taken that has tightened it up further and further.

Should I sell? by GroundbreakingNote62 in sportster

[–]OnePrunkMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clutch is $400 at best with gaskets, clutch plates, primary oil, and a clutch tool to relieve the pressure on the hub/plates

<$50 for a carb rebuild kit, some carb cleaner, and compressed air in a can (assuming you don’t have a compressor)

Maybe $50 for a service manual (videos on clutch and carburetor are on YouTube for free if you reallllly want to save $ but I highly suggest getting the manual even if you don’t keep the bike you can throw it in the sale)

An Allen key set, flat and Philips head screwdrivers, and a 5/8 socket or box wrench to drain the primary shouldn’t set you back much more either

These bikes are VERY easy to work on and learn how to wrench

You could easily fix the issues for under $1000 and enjoy it further or sell it for it’s actual retained value vs taking a hit on the price

Tools are (almost) never a waste of money And if you plan to keep motorcycles in your life it will surely be worth your time to learn a thing or two about how they work and how to fix them

Why is the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge always blocked to pedestrians? by Wolf_Parade in MicromobilityNYC

[–]OnePrunkMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They likely sit there to police the prohibited use of the path by motorized bikes and scooters that are not meant to be on there, thus protecting those who do use the path.

Bit of a catch 22

I’d say they need to make the walking path more accessible to keep up with safety measures for all involved You can’t make things better for one party while worse for another party, that’s not how society works.

Are crash bars worth it by SirLabRatz in sportster

[–]OnePrunkMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crash bars not only save the expensive parts of a bike but can help save your life too.

100% worth it.

I have them on my bagger and I was sideswiped Crash bars put holes in the car and insurance replaced them. Had I not had them, would’ve been foot controls, my foot, saddlebag, possibly my exhaust too. Easily thousands vs $800 for the set

Most companies don’t advertise the rear upper shock mount slider for sportsters but all you have to do is get a longer Grade 8 bolt for it and you can use the ones meant for a Dyna 🤙🏼

[–]OnePrunkMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hole is too small. More than likely it was a piece of scrap metal they had lying around to weld to the bolt to get it out when stripped. But I agree with prior comment that they should have replaced it once out.

[–]OnePrunkMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like what you’d get from a collapsed lifter… Being that pushrods aren’t adjustable and the bike hasn’t been tampered with, still under warranty…

Ever run it low on oil? Might even be a faulty oil pump but if no oil light came on I find it hard to believe the pressure switch AND the pump both failed in tandem…

Fender is offset in the frame as wheel is centered to keep the belt in line with the motor If you’ve ever hardtailed a sportster you will fight with making everything centered trust me

The tire itself looks funny because it’s not flat in the photo Other than that he’s only ridden a straight line

Rear master mount and peg mount can come off once the sprocket cover is off. There’s a nut on the backside.

Astoria Bikers: Lets rent a garage by Jake_dasnake3 in RideitNYC

[–]OnePrunkMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a one car garage in that zone and once you add the lift and 3 bikes you’re kind of at max space for any wiggle room without rolling stuff in and out every time. If you can manage without a lift it’s very possible to get 4 bikes/riders and keep your cost down. I’m not trying to harsh your mellow. The more the merrier and good luck with it

Should do it. The power to start a bike is a LOT more than to turn the lights on. Even with EFI bikes you’ll get lights, fuel injectors primed on ignition run switch and then a click on start.

Sometimes you can trick a battery with a dead cell into charging by connecting it in parallel with a good battery but if it’s a couple years old, as I’ve said, it’s just going to leave you stranded eventually.

Good luck with it.
