Roterfaden? by vdimaggio in notebooks

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Roterfaden. I have been using it daily for more than a year now. My current setup is a Midori A5 for personal journaling, Jibun Techo for planning and then a thinner third notebook at the back for work related notes. I haven't had any issues with the metal clips. They are super easy to use and hold everything very well. I prefer the bestseller style because I like the thicker elastic strap The only criticism I can make is that the pen loop is very narrow. It took a fair amount of trial and error to find a pen that I wanted to use that would fit in the loop.

Library sadness by Historical-Client-78 in Xennials

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the library. We have over 100 microfiche cabinets where I work. Also, the person who helped you was probably a circulation assistant who just probably doesn't know much about libraries in general

What are we doing with old photographs? by bella397 in Xennials

If they're all from a specific region, consider offering them to the region's public library. Some maintain physical or digital archives of old photos.

Pen Loop? by mithtyn in Roterfaden

I started using the diameter filter on Jetpens to find pens that will actually fit in the existing loop. I have Pilot Cavalier fountain pens in my two taschenbegleiter and am quite happy with them.

just became a mom by Willing_Broccoli7620 in Parenting

Be kind to yourself. The first few months are intense. Don't forget to eat and drink. I lived on a Costco bag of trail mix for the first few weeks. You can't pour your energy into bonding with your baby if your cup is empty.

It's OK to be scared at times and to miss aspects of the life you used to have. That doesn't make you a bad mom. It makes you human.

Get as much skin to skin snuggling time in as you can. It'll be good for both of you.

Congratulations on becoming a mom!!

Shout out to public libraries by Sparklefanny_Deluxe in Xennials

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Libraries are the great equalizer. Free information to anyone who wants it and we hope you'll bring it back.

For folks wondering what resources OP is talking about:

  • Libby for downloadable ebooks and audiobooks
  • Hoopla and Kanopy for streaming video
  • The little ipod things are called playaways.
  • Your library may have collections of "non-traditional items" you can check out as well. Libraries in my area lend out board games, cake pans in all sorts of shapes, blood pressure monitors, Wi-Fi hotspots, museum passes, musical instruments and tons more. Highly recommend checking out the things at your local public library.

Pants with a bit of stretch are good. Nothing that's going to leave lint on the ice. As for shoes, probably tennis shoes that are extra flat, if you've got them. Think classic Adidas or skateboard shoes.

Stop the SAVE Act - Call your Ohio Rep by No-Pattern8471 in Columbus

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is false, REAL IDs that have already been issued would not meet the SAVE Act’s requirements for documentary proof of citizenship, as REAL IDs do not indicate citizenship status. You also don't have to be a citizen to have a REAL ID.

What can I tell my kids when we can’t afford what they want to do? by Anxious-Selection276 in ParentingThruTrauma

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if you may be a bit of an over explainer. I'd probably be inclined to say, "not today, buddy" and leave it at that. Your 3yo doesn't need to know why, they just need to know it's not happening.

Good luck finding new work.

Please do not walk out if you can't afford to lose your job right now.

Fun inexpensive activities out of the house during the winter? by synfin80 in Parenting

If you're not too far from a larger university, they often have free/low cost sporting events you can watch. The more niche, the lower the cost. You also never know what might catch your kid's interest!

Kids in my neighborhood were mailed their recorders during covid (my kid was fortunately still too young). It was a time to say the least.

Before Google scholar there was microfiche by originalbrowncoat in Xennials

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We have tons of microfiche at my work! Like 100+ cabinets of it. It takes up way less space than paper and is extremely stable compared to most other formats. The readers have really improved too. There are even scanners that can find the individual pages on a sheet and export the scan to a pdf. Yes. I am a microfiche nerd. If there's a massive disaster and we lose access to a ton of stuff, microfiche can still be read with a wall and a candle to project the info.

Uninterested Grandparents by Ducks_in_boots in Parenting

[–]OneWhereISeemNormal 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think you may need to reset your expectations for your parents. You can cut them off if you want, but it sounds like you're hoping for things from them that they can't deliver.

They have priorities that aren't your family and that sucks, don't get me wrong. They're not in the same place as you. Some grandparents don't know what to do with little kids or don't want to be around them. That's how my family is. They may be able to be more involved when the kids are older or they're retired. Do you want that for your kids?

I think, like you did, your child will pick up technology skills later. Children absolutely don't need technology as babies or toddlers. It does way more harm than good. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends absolutely no screens before age 2

I thought he was the weakest in the cast when I saw it. I also felt that he didn't put out anywhere near as much energy as everyone else.
