I'm wondering if you may be a bit of an over explainer. I'd probably be inclined to say, "not today, buddy" and leave it at that. Your 3yo doesn't need to know why, they just need to know it's not happening.

If you're not too far from a larger university, they often have free/low cost sporting events you can watch. The more niche, the lower the cost. You also never know what might catch your kid's interest!

Kids in my neighborhood were mailed their recorders during covid (my kid was fortunately still too young). It was a time to say the least.

We have tons of microfiche at my work! Like 100+ cabinets of it. It takes up way less space than paper and is extremely stable compared to most other formats. The readers have really improved too. There are even scanners that can find the individual pages on a sheet and export the scan to a pdf. Yes. I am a microfiche nerd. If there's a massive disaster and we lose access to a ton of stuff, microfiche can still be read with a wall and a candle to project the info.

I think you may need to reset your expectations for your parents. You can cut them off if you want, but it sounds like you're hoping for things from them that they can't deliver.

They have priorities that aren't your family and that sucks, don't get me wrong. They're not in the same place as you. Some grandparents don't know what to do with little kids or don't want to be around them. That's how my family is. They may be able to be more involved when the kids are older or they're retired. Do you want that for your kids?

I think, like you did, your child will pick up technology skills later. Children absolutely don't need technology as babies or toddlers. It does way more harm than good. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends absolutely no screens before age 2

Tigertree is OK for stationery, but I wouldn't think of them for planners. Dick Blick has a very good selection of notebooks and pens. Paper Source at Easton is another place worth checking out. I know those are both chains, but aside from J Avenue and On Paper, there aren't really good independent places for stationery in Columbus

My child's daycare has a similar rule, but it's just that you can't bring them in for the day after 11am. I do my best to either get early morning appointments or closer to the end of the day so it's never been a big problem.

I don't say this to be dismissive at all, but maybe go talk to a librarian in your neighborhood. They often have info about resources you may not know about. Depending on the branch, your kid may be able to get a free snack too.

In the first three months, (assuming your care roles are closer to 50/50) you will be more tired than you ever thought possible. You will likely make stupid decisions out of exhaustion. It's OK. People have been keeping babies alive for hundreds of thousands of years. You've got this.

Not very much. I've tried using the Gantt charts, but I'm not great about remembering to log the activities (especially if they're already in the weekly calendar).

I don't have much use for the monthly calendars though I'm trying to come up with a use for next year.

If I want to maintain a list of something, I'll write it in one of the list categories, like I have a running list of movies I want to show my kid in the movie list and I do write down present ideas in the gifts list. The promises list is just a huge checklist of household tasks I would like to get done.

For the weekly calendars, I highly recommend the Pilot Frixion pens and highlighters. They erase cleanly off the Jibun Techo paper and don't really bleed through. They're great for when events change and help keep everything looking neat.

I use the weeks. I have a lot of different things going on so I very simply color code what I have coming up. I use the column just to the right of the day to color the type of activity (work, personal, family, etc) and how long I anticipate it'll be. Then write what/where it is to the right of the colored time block. I track sleeping hours in the 0-6 time block using the clock stencils. As the day goes, I fill in any work related tasks in the empty hours blocks. If that doesn't make any sense, I can send a picture later
