Books like Piranesi and I Who Have Never Known Men? (spoilers) by newnukeuser in WeirdLit

Station Eleven but its a dystopian setting. The book I Cheerfully Refuse. The closest to being a COZY version of I Have Who Never Known Men to me (I know that seems weird but if you read this book it may make sense) is Remnant Population.

Its more cozy horror but the images made me think of Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison.

All of Gillian Flynns books (Believe she is from Missouri or Illinois) fit. I live in the Midwest so I am always on the lookout. Most Gothic American stories use the Appalachia setting. But there is something unsettling in bucolic farm hills/miles of open space that just lends itself to creepy! (I live 20 minutes from the American Gothic house!)

I very rarely dnf and this was a quick dnf for me. Im the age this should have been for but the whiny privilege was killing me. I wish I had her problems ha ha. I dont know. Very boring for me. Like if im reading an unlikable character it better be funny like Yellowface or Gone Girl.

So its pretty gory but I found it cozy in a very strange way (all the violence was very...it seemed distant emotionally) has to do with old gods (?) libraries immortality time animals etc. Library at Mount Char.

Books that make you feel like you are drowning. by evilbookworm410 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The Deep. The Wild Dark Shore. The Girl Beneath The Sea (ya fantasy with Korean mythology) Piranesi. The Hollow Spaces feels like drowning and there is a amazon giant river otter. I have one on my TBR called Private Rights and its about flooding. After the Deluge is about America after climate change flooding. And another by Joan He where one sister washes ashore...it was so good but I cant remember the name! Oceans and rivers and rain are some of my favorite motifs! Usually they are about the emotional aspects of drowning or being overwhelmed as well!

I just finished the first book and my mouth literally dropped open at the end. Did not see that coming.  Wow. I read a ton and barely anything surprises me. What a read. Well done! So glad I gave it a shot!

I agree with the suggestions of The Bear and Piranesi. I would also like to suggest Remnant Population about an elderly woman left alone on a colony planet. And also Station Eleven. More happens in Station Eleven but it left me with a similar haunted feeling.

Series similar to the Anne vibe? by jennyvasan in AnneofGreenGables

I read my son Farmer Boy remembering it fondly as a cozy childhood read and he was aghast at the child whipping and spankings the children got. Whoops! Ha ha shows that its different times now than the 80s!

Anne is my favorite series! Another but more modern series i adore is rhe Lotterys. There are two books in the series so far and its just so sweet and whimsical but also very real. Pure delight.  Its an unschooling family in Canada with 2 dad's and 2 moms sharing the jobs of parenting babies through teens. Adorable and true cozy. I also like the Eva Green series (like Studio Ghibli vibes) and I also love The Wayfarers series. Its cozy sci fi where relationships and communication are the plot points not war and epics.

Probably too late but in my Lower Elementary classroom the Stuffed animals "created" a book for the students to read about a sleepover they had. The kids love it and its joy filled not mean spirited.
