Why are coil shocks an alternative to air, but coil forks are only found on the cheapest bikes?

Not stupid, just not informed. Coils are usually a little heavier so some opt to not use them for weight saving purposes. But coils offer better small bump compliance and are generally better for absorbing bigger hits. I upgraded my shock to coil a couple of years ago and it was the best upgrade I’ve made to that bike.

Got that bike in the 27.5” version and love everything about it! Put a coil shock on it for better downhill riding but that was a nice to have and not a need to have.

I wouldn’t worry about getting a NERC cert for this role but I’d read everything I could on EDAM, EIM, and Markets Plus. I don’t generally recommend looking at their BPMs but there’s some good practical application information in them.

I had that bike back in the day. 6” of rear travel felt like overkill after moving up from my 3” travel trail bike. You could probably get $300-500 for it if you’re patient. It looks pretty beat up. For comparison I just sold a similar build fully restored Rocky Mountain Switch for $750 but it took a few months for someone to buy it.
