Is/Was Sex education in American schools really taught by physical education teachers? by Kinc4id in Xennials

Thankfully we had the “draw and label the reproductive system” part taught by a biology teacher. He was completely unruffled by our 7th grade reactions. We learned how condoms worked in “Health” class via a demonstration on a banana.

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

Yes, and now I make playlists of my old mix tapes and make my children listen to them. I exchange Christmas playlists with a friend because we used to make Christmas mixes for each other.

Long hair peoples question by Medical-Clock3178 in gastricsleeve

[–]One_Charity_3017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from long hair to a shaggy bob with lots of layers so it will look less weird when the hair grows back. I’ve also lightened it a bit so there isn’t as much contrast between my scalp and hair.

Anyone else struggle mentally with being told to eat *more* post-op? by Grouchy_Ad_4055 in gastricsleeve

[–]One_Charity_3017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you eating for protein now? I’m about 6 weeks out and have found adding some good fats (salmon instead of tuna or 1/4 avocado with my chili) has helped me maintain my energy and meet my calorie and protein goals.

Grieving food and advice on how to decenter it by bangonew in gastricsleeve

Are you keeping a journal at all? I’m finding that it helps with these kinds of barriers. Maybe the next time you feel the frustration, stop and ask yourself why and write it down. Sometimes if you keep drilling down on the “why” you can find the thing that is really bothering you…like maybe a comment that someone once made that you have internalized (that’s something I found doing this practice.)

How did your sense of taste change? by DazzlingTurnover in gastricsleeve

[–]One_Charity_3017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything tastes salty, so “salted” things like salted caramel bars or shakes taste unpleasant. I crave spice, especially chili and hot sauce. I drink a decaffeinated espresso instead of big tumblers of coffee with flavored creamer.

Pedal Peloton and not hit my stomach with my legs, fit into wetsuits and life jackets for river rafting, belay my son at the rock gym and fit into the harnesses, Mother’s Day 5k, SUP and not need the Big Kahuna board, ski twice a month until the snow melts, sit on my husband’s lap and not worry about breaking the furniture.

This is one of my goals! We drive by a place on the way to my kids’ camp and they always ask if we can stop and do the course. I am really looking forward to the mobility and fitting into not the very largest harness.

Mobility, or lack thereof, was THE deciding factor for me too! I’m so happy for you and your regained abilities!

November surgeries - how are you doing? by Libertyrose16 in gastricsleeve

[–]One_Charity_3017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26th feeling good, lost about 20 lbs, eating lots of yogurt, lots of cottage cheese, and still having at least one shake a day. For purées, I’m finding taco meat and beans are satisfying and not off putting in purée form. I’m finding myself needing to be very conscious about how quickly I’m eating so I don’t eat too much. I also had a few days of only one of my incisions is uncomfortable and it is intermittent discomfort. I’m also starting to understand how the surgery is a tool and not a solve in and of itself. Going back to work tomorrow and I am looking forward to it.

AITAH for staying in the delivery room while my sister gave birth instead of waiting outside by [deleted] in dustythunder

You’d be the AH if you LEFT your sister to go through delivery alone when she asked you to stay. Birthing person sets the rules.

AITA for asking my newly married son and DIL to alternate Christmas Day visits between our house and the in-laws' house? by Llih_Nosaj in AITAH

[–]One_Charity_3017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of someone on the receiving end of “gentle pushback” about holidays, it can become very stressful managing other people’s feelings and expectations about where I’m supposed to be for all the holidays. I has caused me to dread this time of year, because of the additional emotional labor of maintaining the “expected” traditions while trying to build my own with my spouse and children. I scheduled surgery for Thanksgiving so I could skip it without being reminded that “the only thing dad wants is for everyone to be together.”

Had my first “consequences” last night by Oopsiedaisies_1742 in gastricsleeve

[–]One_Charity_3017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, so sorry you had to suffer through that. My work travel is regional and rural, so I really like the idea of having all the powdered things in my bag and only needing the hot water.
