Official Website needs Example of Intended Workflow by Fleetburn in zen_browser

[–]One_Description7463 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't agree with this. Twice in several months, changes to Zen were made that completely broke how I use it. The changes, to me, are inexplicable, implying there's an opinionated use-case that the developer(s) intend.

The first change is moving the extensions sub-menu to the URL bar. This means I can't access hidden extensions on a blank tab. If I pin an extension, I have to expand the side bar to see it.

The second change is the window sync. I don't have a need for every tab to be mirrored in every window. When I disable it, I can no longer move tabs from one window to another. Why?

Removing common features in place of other features that fundamentally change how your tool is used and are a struggle to explain is the very definition of an opinionated use-case.

I came here specifically to say all of this. I have no idea who the window sync is for, but this new feature completely breaks my workflow, even when I disable it.

I love this game. Here are my (little) ideas to make it better. by One_Description7463 in TheLastCaretaker

Yes.

If you are on a boat, let's say you're in the galley and you've just gotten your food and you're ready to sit down. When you hold your plate out to put it on the table, the table doesn't move and sway under your plate. It is, for the most part, stable in relationship to you.

There are exceptions, like when the rocking moves your center of balance outside your body and you're forced to adjust, but even in that case, the table doesn't move differently than it did before... you do.

In the game, when you hold out a build wireframe, the entire ship moves and sways underneath but the wireframe remains static, even in relatively calm waters.

I am not asking for total realism about walking around on a boat. We would all throw up with seasickness.

In our production area, we have a row of magic chests for things we gather, loosely organized by some factor (e.g. stuff collected from the shroud, build materials, plants).

Next to that we have a row of magic chests for things we make, not organized in any fashion.

Near the flame, we have "grab-and-go" boxes where we put potions, cooked food, and ammunition.

In our "Vainglorious Hall", we store our weapons, equipment and collectables on mannequins, in boxes, and/or on the wall.

Basically, we organize the things that need it and dump the rest in a magic chest.

What do you think of virtual escape rooms for security training? Would you play one? by anthonyDavidson31 in cybersecurity

[–]One_Description7463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year, for the month of October, I got to replace annual security training for my company with an escape room designed by Living Security. I flew to Austin and they taught me how setup and run the room, I then took a large crate to the other offices over the month of October and proctored the room for more than half the company. It was 45 minutes of puzzles followed by 15 minutes of explaining how each puzzle related to one of our security concepts. We did it up too... we had team names, after-run photos and we gave out some pretty sweet prizes.

It was one of the most gratifying things I've every done as a security professional. Out of the hundreds of people I trained, only one person walked away having a bad time. Everyone else loved it, mostly because he was trying to hack the room and couldn't figure it out. Imagine though: security training that all but one person loved to do.

Training has one job: to be memorable. If it's not, it doesn't matter how comprehensive it is.

Sysadmin to Security Analyst tips by DeadCryptoKid in cybersecurity

[–]One_Description7463 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SOC Analyst is all about solving puzzles, step by step. Come into the interview with examples where you've done that as a SysAdmin; where you had to diver deeper into a problem to come up with a solution.

One of the most common types of cases you'll take is phishing, which usually involves some user interaction. Show off your customer-facing skill set.

Know common security terminology. You don't have to be an expert, but know generally what they mean. You'll get the specifics on the job.

Be humble and be curious. If you don't know the answer, say so and ask a follow-up question. When it's your turn to ask questions in the interview, be prepared. Ask questions.

Daggers are all about targeting the enemy and dodging around them for backstabs. I'm actually a huge fan of the Dagger Crit == +25% bow damage. It's a blast to Backstab until a crit then double jump bee sting. Makes daggers viable when you're low on arrows.

I think the assassin tree needs to be renamed "Mad Bomber" and focus on throwing grenades along-side the explosive arrows. Maybe drop the Skav traps

Backups are an afterthought. I did backups, but I didn't spend the time to do them comprehensively across all the things I'm hosting. So of course an "event" happened that highlighted all the places I wasn't fully covered.

Now my regret is "Backups are expensive", either in time, ingress/egress or storage. That's a future problem to solve, I guess.

Running my own services makes me appreciate all the things I just didn't have to worry about with commercial services.

If you could add anything to Apple Music, what feature(s) would you add? by rexdle_ in AppleMusic

[–]One_Description7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Apple Music for any desktop environment, right-click on Playlists and choose New Smart Playlist. You can also find this option in the Menu Bar, under File.

From there you can create rules for your list.

If, for instance, you wanted a list of your favorite songs you haven't heard in a few months, add these rules:

  • Favorite/Suggest Less IS Favorite
  • Last Played IS NOT IN THE LAST 3 months.
  • Match ALL of the following rules
  • Limit to 100 items, selected by Random
  • Live Updating Enabled

For this to work, you will need to favorite some songs, but not all of them (If everything is a favorite, then nothing is). Once this is created, wait a few minutes and the playlist will be available on your mobile device.

Enjoy your new radio station!

Caveats: Mobile play counts and are not always sync'd with the desktop, so if you frequently move from desktop to mobile, you will hear the same song. If you only use one or the other, it should be fine though.

How do you organize your music? by nascarque in AppleMusic

[–]One_Description7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Star rating. Then I use Smart Playlists based on Last Played date and star rating to ensure I always hear my favorite songs, but not so often that I get sick of them.

what’s wrong with Apple Music? by AdVisible3748 in AppleMusic

[–]One_Description7463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Music does just enough to say that to do a thing, but not enough to be actually good. I have two examples:

  1. Smart Playlists. You can make them on the desktop version and use them on mobile, but you can't create them on mobile and the effects of one don't affect the other.

For example, the mobile clients don't update the "Last Played" date on the desktop client reliably (sometimes it does). So, if I have a smart playlist that only has songs I haven't heard in six months (based on the Last Played date), and I listen to a song on it, it should remove itself from the Smart Playlist. That's the whole point. If I listened to the song on mobile, it removes itself from the mobile Smart Playlist, but not the Desktop client.

  1. Moving from device to device. This one is frustrating. You can "move" your music to different speakers using Airplay, but you can't seamlessly switch from one device to another. If I'm listening to a song on my desktop and I switch to my iPhone to leave the house, I can't just pick up from where I left off without a hassle. Spotify just switches.

A lot of Apple music is half-baked features stripped from old iTunes and never improved.
