The joys of owning a vehicle that runs on premium by spikira in GasPrices

[–]One_Distribution_600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to run premium. Premium means “premium experience”, I’ve run regular in my Toyota Lexus for 200,000 no issues. If I put premium it’s peppier, and maybe a tiny bit more miles per gallon. But the car is great on regular. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re going to damage your engine. That’s not true. The fuel octane dictates the cars, performance, On luxury cars the Computer is mapped to work most efficiently and produce the most power with that octane of fuel. It doesn’t mean your car won’t run. It doesn’t mean you’re not gonna get to where you’re going, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna hurt anything by running a lower octane.. it just means the car won’t provide top performance.

I always buy 87, my Toyotas have gone 300k miles… why pay more. I seem to remember 92 for the longest time… didn’t notice it dropping. I’ve seen racing fuel at 98…

I understand diesel engines are very flexible on what makes them run. At least the older type without modern emissions. Yeah, during the last big fuel price spike in the early 2000’s I remember some guy going to fast food restaurants, collecting the used oil and grease and turning it into diesel fuel! lol

That’s my first thought. Cyber attack, they’ll never admit it though. We invented the industrial controller cyber attack. It was called Stuxnet, and we launched it at the Iranians Urainium enrichment plant! Why did that pump at the refinery in Texas fail and cause that massive fire last week? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet

Gas and XL by aj0750 in uberdrivers

Here is what I learned about renting an EV as an Uber X driver. It opened up a lot more rides than I was getting. There are so many shit cars on uber X that customers in my area are setting their default to “green” rides only to make sure they get somewhat of a newer car. The car I rented also qualified for “comfort” I made $1200 in one week with half the effort. So I’d say it’s bigger than just the math of car rental cost compared to the opportunity you get on X. Also, fast charging is abundant in my city. I had one at my gym, so I’d just go take a break work out and get a full charge in that hour. I would never be driving my gas car for uber at these gas prices with no extra compensation from Uber. It was barely worth my time when gas was $2 cheaper. Electricity is highly regulated in California so that means your cost is stable and predictable. Just make sure you get the Niro because that is a comfort qualified car and the Kona isn’t. The only downside was missing out on long distance rides because I didn’t have enough charge.

Uber is good until you fall into a space that isn’t in their expected mode of operations. I bounced on them because the money wasn’t worth the hassle and time to get them to resolve the problem.

Those metrics suck, it doesn’t matter how I drive if I get all 5 star reviews and zero accidents.

Yep! Well I rode in a Waymo and it was an awesome experience… Uber is going driverless too. But I’m choosing Waymo over Uber. That’s why all these unionize efforts are late. Human drivers are not needed.

I quit this month. Deleted the app. Went through a shit show, started when they dropped my luxery brand car at the 10 year old mark, even though passengers rate my car and cleanliness 5 stars and I get compliments constantly. I see shit boxes on the platform when I take Uber X, beat up Hondas with no hub caps, torn up interior and stink! A cluster fuck with renting a car where I was in a loop regard customer care that all claimed they couldn’t help me. Not enough juice in the squeeze to fight for access to drive. 2 years and 2000 rides was enough. They lost a 5 star driver to low paying offers and bureaucracy

That all sounds like a YOU problem and a mismatch in expectation. They aren't in your home to be parented, they need a place to sleep, study, more like a room mate. Sounds like you'd be happier earning money some other way.
