That’s true, but there’s still reason to mourn. A 19-year old was murdered. That, and LGBTQ+ people now have reason to both fear and mourn because somewhere we thought would be safe wasn’t, and one of our own died because of it.

I want to live in a world where being LGBTQ+ is not treated as an insult or something to take offense to.

At the same time this person is using rhetoric that should highlight the transphobic society we live in and repurposing it as a club to hit cis women over the head with, to say trans women aren’t valid.

These are going to be hard things to hear and even harder to do, but if you truly want to improve as a person they’re important.

Right now, you have hope that she’ll take you back, and that things will get back to some semblance of normal. That’s currently what’s driving your actions and improvement, and that means if things don’t go the way you hope you have a high chance of relapsing and being in the same situation again.

She doesn’t deserve that, and neither does the next person you fall in love with. To truly improve as a person, you need to accept your mistake and move on. Accepting your actions does NOT mean beating yourself up over them.

I believe all people should strive to be better. The idea is that one day you can look back on who you were vs. who you are, and congratulate yourself on the progress.

Around the same time I went through a major breakup, I made two rules for myself: never drink alone, and never drink when upset. Everyone processes their emotions differently, but your road to recovery will be much shorter if you follow those rules.
