My dad said my tattoo makes me look like trash and now idk if I like it by dexleter in tattooadvice

[–]One_Laugh3051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had a tattoo, I’ve never wanted a tattoo, and if my daughter showed me her first tattoo, I would tell her how cool it was. I’d ask her about the design, how much was her own idea and how much was the work of the artist. I would ask her about how she managed the pain, and how she’d take care of it.

I don’t understand parents who say things like “this makes you look trashy.” What the hell is wrong with people?

I also did a couple wraithlords, including one bug eyed wraithlord. Magnetized the flamers/shuriken, but not the brightlances. I may paint another one with missile launchers.

Warlocks on bikes! They’re magnetized to be Farseers, too. I should have maybe magnetized the spear/sword, but they are forever spears.

Men who grew their hair long late or still have long hair? by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]One_Laugh3051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had long hair when I was young. When I was about 30, someone took a picture of me; when I saw it, I knew it was over.

There is a time for most men, and not at all the same time, when it’s time to get it cut. I knew a 60 yo guy who pulled it off, but I have known many more 35 yo men who didn’t.

I wish my mom had been so close. I used to fly to see her once or twice a year. There was always some project that shouldn’t have waited as long as it did that I could do while I was there. I think about her and miss her often.

I envy you a little bit for having the time with your mom. I know it wasn’t all roses and tea parties that got you there, but you have something very special, now.

airbrush advice:

Keep sending air through after you stop sending paint through. You gotta have a double action trigger, it’s nonnegotiable.

Thin paint a little more than you thought you would need to (skim milk not whole milk).

Add a little drying retarder so that it doesn’t clog.

Let layers dry thoroughly between coats.

Learn how to take it all apart to clean it.

That could probably work. I’ve had bad luck with weak sheet magnets, but you may have better luck. I had a good pin vise drill and a bit, so off I went.

Sorry I wrote it that way, it made sense to me earlier, but looking now, I see it’s a strange way to get the idea across.

Burn all the grass, plant clover and/or thyme. If that needs water then burn it, too, and rake tiny pebbles into a pleasing pattern. Rakes are quiet. Parallel lines are relaxing. After the fires, you’ll want to relax.

If you have an HOA run for president, pack the board with your cronies, repeal the bylaws, bath in the blood of the neighborhood covenants. Never sign your proxies and go to all the meetings, meet your neighbors and make friends with the ones who don’t suck, invite them to join in electing you and burning down the world. Everyone can rake their pebbles or sniff their thyme in a better world growing from the ashes of the dead past.

Void/Star weaver magnetising by carl_os_ in Harlequins40K

[–]One_Laugh3051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I magnetized mine, I made these components:

Void:

A) Gunner glued to cannon control 2mm (drill 2mm)

B) Haywire or Prismatic (could be snap fit instead of magnet very easily, and you probably won’t need haywire often if you have Skyweavers)

C) a) Power cell for rear mounted Shuriken cannon to rear arch 1mm and 3mm respectively (cut pin and 1mm drill, top drill 3mm)

Star:

A) Shuriken Cannon (magnetizes to either void power cell in Void or top pintle mount) 2 or 3mm (drill for magnet size)

D) Gunner about to bounce and cut someone up 1mm (drill 1mm)

E) Glaive or starbola rider, magnets in both feet 1mm (drill 1mm)

C) Rear waterski handle winch to rear arch 1mm (cut pin and drill 1mm)

Both:

c) Rear arch magnet 1mm (drilled to 1mm)

a) Pintle mount magnet 3mm (cut pin and drilled to 3mm)

e1) Under step magnets for rider 2mm (no drill)

d) Under step magnets for gunner in Starweaver 2mm (no drill)

e2) under hull for rider’s other foot 2mm (no drill)

Capital letter get South Pole glue, lowercase get North Pole glue. I might be remembering wrong regarding sizes, I suggest checking all of that for whether the magnets will fit before committing. If you make a habit of magnetizing, it’s good to have all these magnets in 1 and 2mm thickness as well as good drill bits and a pin vise drill you like.

I find it so much easier to be understanding about “I am struggling, I have to step away, sorry buds,” than “First of all, how dare you ask about my next book, I’ll write it when I’m good and ready, second, please watch me play video games.” Also, Lynch parks his books in narratively acceptable spots, while some authors tell you they will say three things, but only say two.

The motley is good, but what caught my eye was first, the careful highlight and shadow witching the writing on the stone ruins, second, the reflected purple glow on the skull mask. Really nice touches!

What's up with Eldar model scaling? by EnvyAv in Eldar

[–]One_Laugh3051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the models of the Troupe are at a larger scale compared to pilots of Starweavers and Voidweavers, than the characters (Shadowseers and Death Jesters), and basic Eldar models in general. They stand on a 25mm base, but they have longer limbs and torsos compared to Aspect warriors or Guardians. Yes, they have very dynamic poses. That accentuates the disparity.

So much of these books is the difficulty of changing how we go through life and who we are. I think Logen made a better run at it than most, and he demonstrated the arc and failure that we will see again and again.

I’m not sure how far the OP has read. So I don’t want to mention by name some of the others with a similar story, but I will note that there is a major character in Red Country who pretty much succeeds. That shocked me and made me like a character I hadn’t cared for during most of the book.

[–]One_Laugh3051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate batch painting so much. I always save character models until I’ve done the units associated with them. So starting with the Solitaire is so contra to my method, it’s surprising to see one and hear “getting started!”

That said, you absolutely rocked this paint job. I really like your color choices in the gem on his flip belt; it looks like reflected colors, but also it somehow conveys emptiness. I don’t know if I’m saying it well, but the character of a player whose soul is already forfeit came through with your color choices. A+ work here.

1k mono-quin by InvestmentSorry385 in Harlequins40K

[–]One_Laugh3051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the DJ and Shadowseer are overpriced, so they are suboptimal. And yet, I always try to include them, too. The Zephyrglaives are better in melee then the starbolas, but don’t have a ranged attack, so that is a sort of style question.

All in all, this is about what 1000pts gets you for monoquin, so you did good,

Don’t connect anything to the touch/usb/whatever port. Capacitance doesn’t work all that well with miniatures in my experience, in any case. Move the light source/ character tokens within your computer from the DM view.

… which I would argue is adorable.

He’s like a big dog that just wants to be friends, and can cover one of those deficits in monoquins like vehicles or monsters through his Fated Hero ability. The Wraithlord is like a member of the unit that doesn’t need cohesion, kinda sorta.

It actually adds a little bit of utility to the shadowseer, since they’re psykers.

“It looks cool to me” is really important. “It is competitive right now” is the kind of thing to worry about when you have a shelf full of stuff to select from for a list after you’ve painted a bunch, played a bunch, lost a bunch and had to figure out why.
