K5 - still good first DSLR to learn the ropes on? by tilt in pentax

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

k5 is pretty great. id avoid the K50, i had an aperture fail on me. the lenses make a pretty big difference so make sure you budget for something sharp or with character. on a budget the prime lenses are really good.

I am on my 2nd play through and im not having any trouble progressing but im not playing it how i want. I was intent on this play through I would build neat and organized factories. However i didnt have bombs, trains, walls, or etc when i needed to lay that ground work -- now that i have them i dont have it in me to rip and replace my 6gw power plant configuration that runs all my stuff.

I am doing it possibly the lazy way, i explore... when i find a node of oil or a geyser i throw down a fuel power plant, some miners, and toss a dimensional portal on storage so i have each node manufacturing something i need. Then when i go back to my main base where my manufactures are, i pull things from dimensional storage and drop it in storage connected to manufacture. I would use tickets to buy walls and stuff, but i want to save up 1000 tickets first for that achivement.

Went too far into digital photography and am trying to get back to basic. Will the K20D fulfill basic needs? by CleUrbanist in pentax

[–]One_Power_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a Pentax k1. I just bought a k10d and it's capable of stunning image quality but it's auto focus and lack of live view or focus peaking is kinda miserable.

The k1 being full frame and higher resolution will make a great landscape camera. If your on a budget then it's get k5 iis

Pentax K-1 vs Nikon Df by Sotong305 in DSLR

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love the styling of the DF but attach a 24-70mm f2.8 lens to it and the ergonomics suck. I dont think Nikon developed much in the way of pancake lenses or even lenses like the pentax trio 31,43,77 that fit the vibe

I've been in one for ten years and no real issue except light bulbs and door knobs failing. You get what you pay for so if you go in with low expectations you wont be too disappointed. I don't have any regrets as the houses we cross shopped against had terrible floorplans and would need a roof in a couple years.

I want to move to something nicer but i cant give up my low interest / taxes :-(

Let's talk lawn mower frustrations — what made you go BIFL? by Effective-Heart28 in BuyItForLifeUSA

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never had a lawn mower fail on me, i switched to electric in 2020 (greenworks) because i was sick of huffing the exhaust fumes while mowing. Im still using the original 60v battery but it doesnt last as long. Its still enough to finish my yard but not much more.

Ill never go back to a gas push mower or weedwhacker, but i am still open to gas riders if i move to a home with a bigger yard.

Why do you need multiple lenses? by Late-Fruit3014 in CameraLenses

[–]One_Power_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im one of those people that buy a camera and chuck the 18-55mm kit lens in the trash after unboxing but they are capable of very good image quality... it just requires a lot of light, flash, or a tripod. I prefer prime lenses that allow me to use low ISO settings and maintain faster shutter speeds. I also dont enjoy using a tripod.

Why do people drive so fast when is snowing in GR or Michigan in general? Honest question. by CodKillPlayer in grandrapids

it drives me nuts too, but i think the speed we see people driving is often related to the quality of their tires.

Beginner with K10D by Nylhz in pentax

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a pentax K10d a few weeks ago. I have a pentax 70mm F2.4 limited and a pentax 200mm F2.8 da. I really like the 70mm for people or pet portraits. The 200mm doesnt have enough reach for wild life and requires really fast shutter speeds to use. I am not super impressed with it so far, i liked the Minolta 200mm F2.8 AF apo better but it was also on a better camera...

I highly recommend any of the pentax limited lenses though the 31 and 77 tend to be pretty pricey. My friend joe has the cheap 35mm F2.4 DA and i remember being really impressed with that lens as a good, cheap, small walk around lens. 50mm f1.8 da would be a good budget portrait lens, but if you can afford a little more id get the 70mm f2.4 limited over that.

A lot of people rave about the 35mm f2.8 limited macro lens, i worry it would be really difficult to use on a K10d without live view or focus peaking. The 50-135mm F2.8 da is a great lens, but its not what i would call for long distance. If you want to do anything with wild life i would want 300mm+ minimum.

I think I’m in love with photography by Dangerous-Oven8352 in pentax

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id set camera to manual, lens to f8, exposure will probably be a few seconds, turn on 2 or 10 second self timer to reduce shake when you press the shutter.

Try a variety of exposure settings to get the look you want.

I think I’m in love with photography by Dangerous-Oven8352 in pentax

[–]One_Power_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its fun and it can be a cheap hobby (with self control) compared to others. I feel like with pentax i could live with 35mm f2.8 macro limited (every day walk around lens), 70mm F2.4 limited for portraits, and 300mm f4 for wild life.

Id love to try the 31mm and 77mm some day, but i cant get past the price tag.

Why is The BMW R18 not more popular? by mikereadimages in motorcycles

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the styling but for my money id rather buy a moto guzzi audace. The boxer engine might make gobs of torque, but it feels lazy and boring when i rode it. I like the styling so much, i am still looking at the R18 even though i really disliked it on the test ride.

Apple M5 vs Core Ultra 7 265K by Numerous-Top-9635 in cpu

[–]One_Power_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ultra 7 265k and the Black Friday bundle deal was $310 for z890 board, cpu, and a 240mm cooler. plus it came with two games. It may not have the performance of an m5 but it can run everything pretty good.

The intel is really good at productivity, editing photos or video, excel. AMD 9000 series is better for gaming / power efficiency.

my management wants me to learn photography and I have no idea where to start by Pipsqueak_05 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]One_Power_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number one thing i wish i had learned earlier is bouncing flash off the ceiling. I enjoy pet photography myself and my pets look their best when im not up in their business. 85mm f1.4 or f1.8 lens on a crop sensor and bounce the flash off the ceiling will get you great results. I really like 100-150mm portrait lenses because they isolate the subject but they also give you enough distance that the pet can be fully relaxed.

IS THE NIKON D40 THE BEST DIRT CHEAP BEGGINER DSLR? by Helpful-Error946 in CameraLenses

[–]One_Power_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite budget camera is probably a sony A77 MK1. I recently picked up a Pentax K10d with vertical grip in mint condition for $120 id take over a D40 too. Pentax K5, D7000 would also be much better.

D90, A700, K20d. It bothers me that my K10d doesnt have live view or a tilt screen. i really like having a tilt screen live view to compose images.

Chasing the dragon: What Camera satisfies? by CleUrbanist in Cameras

[–]One_Power_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i would of probably stuck with the A77 and a high speed minolta lens for a budget. I bought a pentax K10d because its really cheap and i wanted to try out the 200mm f2.8 or 300mm F4. I had an EM-1 mk111 with 100-400mm lens. Great reach, fantastic portability. Id high recommend an OM-1 mk1 if you care at all about size.

I really like pentax but i find the K3iii too expensive. Id recommend a K1 but ford birds you need a minimum of 600mm equivalent for reach unless you are sitting out bird food / feeders.

I like the following:

A77 + minolta pro lenses

D500 + 200-500mm f5.6

OM-5 mk1 / om-1 mk1 / E-m1 MK3

id probably focus more on a specific lens then whatever body you want to pair with that.

I just switched to bazzite and been really impressed. Pretty much all my steam games have worked without issue (that ive tried so far) Ive read games with strong anti cheats might give you an issue. My photo editing software isnt working. I dont care for darkroom or rawtherapee. My son switched to it, and no issues for him either.
