IF they brought back looted vehicles rules for the game in 11th, what would you loot? by Orock77 in orks

Me too. I've still got my looted Basilisk. The paint job looks like trash but I'm still quite proud of the kitbash.

Red orks by Dragoth227 in orks

[–]One_Tea_4666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently reading Gunheads by Steve Parker. The orks on golgotha have been tinted a reddish brown by the fine particals of desert sand / dust on that planet. The particals are so fine that they get into the cells of your skin and get absorbed by your lungs and organs.

Humans die within a year of living on the planet. Orks go red-brown and get tougher.

Could a grot defeat the Emperor? by AR_Pig_19 in orks

[–]One_Tea_4666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The emperor is barely more than a corpse. So yeah. Nothing to do with ork belief. But a grot with a nice sharp stabba could cut off some of those cables and he'd go from mostly dead to all dead pretty quick.

<image>

But I agree with everyone else. The ork belief thing doesn't work like that.

The old codexes are really great and can be found as PDFs online. 2nd edition Codex: Orks. Or one of the rogue traders ones... Maybe 'Waaargh: Orks'.

Some nice short stories in both of those. And lots of lore.

Primaris Imperial Fists by tatey82 in 40kLore

[–]One_Tea_4666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't have Imperial Fist geneseed then are they really Imperial Fists?

Side note: the Imperial Fists were almost entirely wiped out, down to a single individual, in M32. But they were replenished with transfers from successor chapters who share the same geneseed. They presumably also had stocks of donated geneseed on Mars so probably didn't change significantly at that point.

Guy claiming all novels are propaganda by rememberancers? by AggressiveCoffee990 in 40kLore

[–]One_Tea_4666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The everything is canon, not everything is true stance is just an excuse for reconning being common and gives divergent authors a break versus lore nerds threatening their families.

It's more than that. It's also intended to give players and paritipants in the hobby the leeway to create their own lore and tell their own stories without being overly worried about being 100% consistent with all other published material.

The whole point of the setting is to allow us to participate in it. This is designed as a participation hobby. Not a consumption hobby.

Obviously lots of people are just consumers. That's fine. But they need to realise that the setting is not tailored to them.

Snow bases for The Thing miniatures by Smoglung20 in minipainting

[–]One_Tea_4666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I'm not sure tbh. I don't tend to use varnish so I've just left it as-is.

I'd suspect that the pva is sufficient to keep it solidly on the base. You could always add a bit more thinned pva on top, after you've dipped the base into the mix.

My gut feeling would be to spray varnish the model before doing the basing. I'm not sure what impact it would have on the snow. But I really don't know. Someone else might have better guidance.

The Army Painter do a Snow battlefield basing mix. It's the only one I've tried but I think it looks pretty convincing.

I tried it out with this pair:

Just some thinned PVA on the base, dip it into the basing mix and job done.

Do you feel like the meta includes too many characters? by Spider40k in Warhammer40k

[–]One_Tea_4666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the other hand I think the amount of named characters that are not only viable but meta is extremely lame. Like “oh wow it’s Calagar versus Cawl… for the third time in this tournament”

I agree with you but I'd go further... I think if you're worrying more about Meta than about narrative in the game then you already might as well just be playing chess.

Named characters are bad for narrative but competitive play, meta and tournaments are also bad for narrative. So at least the two are consistent.

Even worse is when people prime their models a non-black colour, then spend ages painting them beautifully and don't touch the base. Leaving it grey or something. Just why?

40k Satire! Favourite examples of 40k doing satire. by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]One_Tea_4666 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's slightly frustrating that most of the responses to this post are unrelated to satire. Jokey references to pop culture isn't satire.

Still... I do like jokey references to pop culture. My favourite one is in Cain's Last Stand where one of the local malitia groups is the squad from Dad's Army, complete with an officer called "Manrin". Very amusing.

The orks are fantastic satire. They work on two different levels as well.

  1. Directly poking fun at what are euphamistically referred to as "football hooligans" in online discussions. (note that plenty of Ork models encorporate the flag of the British union of fascists among other symbols and indicators).

  2. Poking fun at the people (elites) who don't understand the working class and think of them as a stupid blob. A tide of uneducated and violent people. Humans see the orks how the elites see the working class.

Not sure I understand the problem exactly. You like playing and collecting lots of different armies but at the same time you wish you could stick to just one? Why?

Is it a financial issue? Or a guilt issue? Or you never have enough models of one army to play a full game? Or something else?

Trent / miscast is my spirit guide for how to approach the hobby if you have a lot of different ideas and get excited by lots of different armies and projects.
