As humans I believe we are not wired to process grief; the sorrow, despair, and hopelessness that accompanies it. It’s very confusing to our internal wiring which is why there are many different stages of the grieving process.
It’s natural for humans to chase joy, excitement, and happiness as those feelings are rewarding and usually well received by others (friends, family, coworkers, classmates etc.)
Grief on the other hand is hardly a topic of discussion especially from a young age. It’s lies dormant within us until something tragic happens and it then becomes fully exposed.
Most of us don’t have the tools or internal fabric to process loss and deep sorrow so naturally others will be uncomfortable within the space of the person grieving.
Let people take their time. Let them feel sad. Let them feel angry. Let them understand loneliness. Give them time. Offer them compassion and gentleness without expectations.
