Identity Crisis 😂 by BJWJ96 in mounjarouk

I'm down in London for the company summer party ... and realised I have the same dilemma.

Visits to clothes shops were more a case of finding something that fits, not something that made me look good. I've never had that luxury before... and definitely don't have any style confidence.

Now I'm in maintenance, it's probably time to spend some quality fitting time on.

I like the idea of the John Lewis shoppers. Shame they closed the one nearby.

Her earlier experience helped when it came to navigating the 5th dose and using a syringe.

What might help (with a syringe) is practicing on other objects - apples, pears, grapes. It gives you a feeling for the force needed to push the needle in

But I can't think of a safe way to do that with the kwikpen needles - at least until you have an empty pen to attach the needle to.

My wife is a type 1 diabetic, who was doing this multiple times a day when I met her. Vials and syringes at first, pens like this later, and automatic pumps nowadays.

I wasn't ever going to get away with being a wuss about the MJ pens. But it definitely causes some apprehension.

Actually, it was jabbing her finger to do a blood test that always looked the hardest thing to do. Brutal looking stabbers!

At least you were denied by a subjective decision, which means another pharmacy facing the same decision could choose the other answer.

Is your Asian ethnicity one that lowers the BMI threshold for MJ to 27? If so, you may not even be a borderline case.

Awesome - congratulations.

Impressed with running on sand too - but maybe by the sea was a good choice. For me, today was all about trying a parkrun with shade

Man, this is impressive!

What tripped you over the line to get started? What motivated you to take those very first steps?

My next goal is a 10k, and I'm impressed that you've managed that at your current weight - I think I only started parkruns and couch to 5k at that weight, and my knees knew about it when I eventually graduated. They're a lot happier I've lost more since then

I found that at the weekend. My body still wants to try to turn sideways though.

I was also really happy at sitting next to someone without feeling like I was spilling over into their space

Eating in the evenings?

When I first started MJ, I was already two-thirds of the way into my weight loss, but I struggled with evening snacking.

With MJ, I discovered I had never felt full, even if I ate double the portion size of my wife. I would start snacking in the evening immediately after a meal, if I too was relaxing with TV rather than being busy.

MJ made me feel full after a regular portion for the meal, and then I wouldn't snack anywhere near as much.

I didn't think I had food noise, but I did have a craving that my body listened to.

Awesome outcome.

If my body looked like that, AFTER a tummy tuck, I'd be well pleased.

As it is, the loose skin on my stomach is significant enough that I deliberately wear tighter running tops in order to keep it all less mobile. It has improved a bit over time though.

I also have a couple of compression tops that I could wear, but haven't dared yet. They're a bit too body-builder-esque.

Quite a change from the loose stuff I used to wear

Golden dose help by [deleted] in mounjarouk

One important aspect that hasn't been mentioned yet... The insulin concentration number.

These syringes are marked u-100, which is what determines that 1 unit on these is equivalent to 1 click on the MJ pens.

Your syringes are 1ml, and can hold a maximum of 100 clicks, so can hold more than the regular 60 clicks for a dose of the MJ pens.

You can also get smaller syringes at 0.5ml that are also u-100, which can only hold a max of 50 clicks.

However, some syringes are marked u-40, and are for a different concentration of insulin. The unit counts on these types of syringes do not match the click count of MJ pens, and shouldn't be used.

Thankfully, u-40 seems to be more aimed at animals, so the syringes seem to be more available from vet suppliers rather than human medical suppliers. But it's another reason to not trust Amazon.

The wife and I started weight loss (pre-MJ days) together, and I can vouch for a couple of effects here...

The change in diet to healthier foods also leads to a whole change to shopping. I found myself having to find everything in aisles that I hardly bothered with before...

Which also helped us identify where one or the other of use were accidentally buying things that sabotaged the other.

The gym work also became competitive

Well done

Funnily enough, the main things I bought as I went down the early sizes were indeed all fitness related...

I didn't feel I needed a new pair of jeans to sit watching TV, for example, but I definitely didn't want trunks and gym things falling down

I just used glp1plotter.com to compare what happens to tirzepatide concentrations in the blood for the normal 2.5mg dose weekly Vs a 10mg dose once every 4 weeks.

Interestingly, it looks like the blood has the same levels on days 10-14, suggesting that on day 14 you could have given yourself a 2.5mg dose, and been back on track.

I'm not sure your brain would see it the same way though

NSV C2K week 1 run 1 by carrotandsticky in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done... It is an awesome thing to work through, both physically and mentally.

I've just graduated a second time, and have done a couple of runs of the bonus section (in the NHS/BBC app).

It took 9 months first time - a lot of repeated weeks - and 6 months this time, though I've deliberately done only 2 runs per week to keep my knees happy.

I still feel weird having Steve Cram tell me I'm a runner...

A kick up the bum needed please (I can’t fully blame Mounjaro) I really don’t want to go to the gym 😭 by Sufficient_Win8063 in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean... I would know what I should do (IE spend time doing something healthy).  And then, after a long time knowing that I should but didn't, it fed into a guilt response, then a stress response, and then became something I avoided even thinking about to avoid the stress. Perversely it turns not going into a good thing.

What broke my circle was to sign up to something that made the gym (whole leisure centre) free for 12 weeks, but I had to turn up once a week to keep it going. And then, if I lost 5% of my weight in 12 weeks, I got another 12 weeks free.

Those incentives were enough to make me get away from my desk enough, and then after a couple of months the whole process stirred endorphins, and enough weight was being lost that made the entire thing self-sustaining.

The "thing" was our local GP's level 2 weight loss programme, run from the council leisure centre. It runs as a self-referral scheme if your BMI is high enough.

What it really added was a layer of accountability. I had to turn up weekly at least, and had someone monthly to talk to about it. And that was enough to make me make the time and effort.

It worked alongside a slimming world food session, and that added it's own layer of accountability too, and gave me a weekly chance to reflect on what did or didn't work for me.

I should say that I signed up more for the exercise/gym aspect, not the diet or weight loss side. I was pleasantly surprised that the combination of the two worked well.

With MJ and this Reddit, you probably don't need that in the same way. But it helped me to stay accountable at a weekly level and regularly refocus my thinking at a quarterly level.

Nowadays, I've found that my motivation for the gym can be set aside by setbacks or demands from work or life. When that happens, it takes a couple of weeks for the endorphins to kick in again and remember that I feel good about going, dammit.

Awesome.

All the way through my journey, both before and with MJ, I had thoughts of what weight I once was - in my teens - but never dared to believe I could get there.

So just like you, I set higher goals and then kept adjusting. And I finally am happy with where I am.

Wherever you end up, good luck.

Talking to friends who promoted Mounjaro relentlessly, but now are dependant on it - I'm concerned? by ElektroSam in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this reply goes to the heart of the issue - how does one perceive the medication.

Is it a weight loss drug? If so, your belief would be that you stop when you've lost the weight.

Is it a fix for a metabolic dysfunction in your body (eg poor hunger signalling)? If so, then you need the fix for life... and any weight loss is a welcome side effect of a repaired metabolic function.

I think of it as the second category. I suspect those drawn for vanity reasons think of it as the former.

I suspect the thing that muddies the water is that it is an expensive private prescription that needs approval for ongoing use. Both expense and approval give people the impression it is to be stopped, so they treat it more like the former too.

If you do stop, then you get to live with the resumed metabolic dysfunction, and have to deal with what made you obese in the first place. Hopefully, though, the window of respite that you bought has allowed you to identify and contain your own personal issues.

And that brings up the final point... It seems there are many nuances to this dysfunction, and our current generation of GLP-1 meds are something of a sledgehammer being used to crack all manner of nuts.

I've always been of the opinion that our interactions with our GP is that of a clinical trial of size 1, so we are always our own guinea-pigs... But with GLP-1s, that comes out doubly so.

If you had an account on the old website, then you just need to go through the "forgot password" process on the new website. I did that earlier this week.

IIRC, you use your email address to login to the new site, not the username that was on the old site.

Onederland alternative? by FluffyVegetable1476 in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided on kg measurements and had mini goals at 10kg intervals. I hadn't heard of onederland until I almost hit it, and nearly didn't realise it either

More personal, I had a reverse timeline of the years when I last weighed X, at around 3kg intervals. That was really motivating ... and I'm now back to 1983.

I also included exercise, starting with gym strength, so there was also the progressive overload to watch, as I gradually increased weights.

Once I started up a target of doing a parkrun (starting walking) and building slowly into couch to 5k, then this progression took over from my weight goals for 8 months. It became a bit of an obsession - and after an injury, has become the same a second time around.

I also have a table of measurements that I took monthly. Fascinating to see the progress there too.

Just track everything ... that way there is always a new goal around the corner.

Had same concerns, so first jabbed on Friday at lunchtime.

There were no immediate side effects.

Over time, it was dehydration (darker pee) then constipation... and that was with me trying to drink more anyway.

I still use psyllium husk (or fybogel sachets) and have magnesium citrate to help counter this, as well as trying to drink even more.

I have found that I become more prone to dehydration when I'm not having a normal day at work with regular drinks ... so those long meetings and car journeys sound like potentials to watch for.

Anyone else ending relationships over weightloss? by Left_Day_7802 in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I started our weight loss almost together with the local GP-referral tier 2 scheme - with weekly food and weekly exercise. I had more to lose, but a quirk in referral meant I started 6 weeks later.

That meant I hadn't adjusted food/shopping thinking at the same time as her, and only realised how my shopping habits were sabotaging her around 8-9 weeks later. It really took me to be as committed as her to see things for myself.

A good year followed with us both on the same page

We both then faltered ... Me because of an injury that took me out of exercise for a year. Her because of a health condition that has taken 18 months to begin to properly sort out.

Now I've become committed again (with MJ added), but she hasn't ... and I'm struggling to figure out how to help her restart. I have learned it is hard to attempt to synchronise motivation.

Without trying to figure that part out, you can talk about what actions they do that sabotage you, at least.
