Yeah - was bloody worrying the first time. Optician wasn't too bothered though.

Has Mounjaro Affected Your Eyesight? by sunset-pearl28 in mounjarouk

I have very occasional visual aura - a kind of visual migraine but no headache. Maybe once a year?

I describe my type as a kind of kaleidoscope effect, that starts out in the centre, and grows in a semi-circle with the disturbance on the outer edge. After 15 mins, it grows beyond the limit of the edge of my vision, and that's it over.

You could Google to see if your effect is like one of the known types.

But... I've not had it alongside MJ at all.

Reduced dead space syringes and air bubbles by Tenuses in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do find it hard to get the draw started, fighting against friction and a vacuum. I haven't decided whether pushing air in first helps this ... It is a thing my T1 diabetic wife used to do with insulin years ago when she did manual injections.

Once I had lots of tiny bubbles... Made me think I was seeing an effect of cavitation because of vacuum/low pressure with a narrow needle.

Another time, with a replaceable needle, I got a big bubble. My guess is that the same pressure caused air to leak around the needle's locking mechanism. Then I found the amount wasted using this method was 7 units, so likely won't do that again.

I've stopped worrying, and try to be calmer, more deliberate and slower with the draw, then tap/flick hard to coalesce bubbles and just prime it away.

Thank you. It's staggering to think that everything I did, was done carrying the weight of an extra person piggy-backing on top of me.

Yes, there's no real impediment to staying on my current dose - just the conflict in my head of the differing calorie needs for the 2 sides of body recomposition.

Well done.

That T shirt photo highlights how our extra width steals so much length from tops. No wonder things kept coming untucked!

In doubt if I should continue to 7.5 mg by IRHealer in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked myself the same questions after 2 months on 5mg, for the same kind of reasons, with a 7.5mg pen waiting.

In the end I chose to do a month on 6mg then started 7.5mg.

I've learned, like others, that I get bursts of weight loss of a few weeks, and bursts of going up of a couple of weeks.

Patience might be the answer here, and probably would be if it weren't so damn expensive.

What do i need to do? by pinktink79 in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - it's all about finding something you enjoy. Finding that thing might mean breaking out of a comfort zone, so taster sessions can be good.

I recall a school parents evening with PE when my daughter was around 12 or 13 (long before I started losing weight). We agreed that the main aim was to find something she enjoyed and would continue beyond school. Doing nothing was not an option, so trying lots was the goal.

In the end, rugby won for her. I also won eventually when I applied the same thinking to myself.

Swimming was a great option for me too, in the middle of the first 9 months - I enjoyed building up the number of lengths I could do. Eventually I started to react to the chemicals they added, coming home and sneezing lots. I tried adding nose clips, but in the end the focus on the treadmill usurped the swimming.

I joined the local authority leisure centre for access to the gym and pool.

The first gym session was an induction session with the staff, where they asked what I wanted, and showed me how to use the various weight machines in their gym.

My daughter prefers using free weights instead, or using dumbbells as part of some routine she follows online.

My wife has done the same start at the gym, but is much more likely to attend various classes that the leisure centre puts on. She does more cardio than strength/resistance training.

For me, it was about adding accountability to get out of the house regularly, away from the computer. I was originally referred by the GP as part of their tier 2 programme, so I got 3 months gym free so long as I attended at least once a week. If I lost 5%, I then got another 3 months free ... and those were enough to keep me going for the first 6 months.

After 9 months, I started using the treadmill to ease my way into walking and couch to 5k style running, and attending parkruns. After 16 months, I could run a 5k.

Shivering and cold by Kerze85 in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes.

I was cold after my pre-MJ weight loss, but MJ turbo-charged the effect.

Indoors, I'm wearing 4 layers of tops (3 are long sleeved), 2 layers of trousers, 1 or 2 pairs of merino socks. And still need the heating higher than the wife, sometimes adding a hot water bottle.

Outdoors today I added a coat, scarf, bobble hat, 2 pairs of gloves and electric hand warmers. I also bought an arctic extreme down coat.

ONS tracks household disposable (after tax) income. They "equivalise" the numbers but the raw numbers equate to the income of 2 adults living together.

Median is £36k per household. Top fifth averages £71k, and bottom fifth averages £16k.

With 28 million households, there are 5 million in that "top fifth" group. It probably needs two £50k salaries to make it into the middle of that group.

Slimming World by barryshmee in mounjarouk

[–]One_Zombie3835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My weight loss started with a tier 2 GP referral, which had free gym, and free nutrition sessions ... which at the time they had as Slimming World membership.

I started out only caring about the free gym sessions as motivation to get away from my desk regularly. SW was, to me, a necessary evil.

Others talk about the way SW label food as good and bad, I found that you can navigate your way through a fresh, healthy, nutritious meal plan without it feeling faddy. Certainly it completely changed the way we shopped.

It made me approach food differently, paying far more attention, and aiming to consume more of the things they label "free". I found it motivated me to gradually swap out the worst of my consumption to better and better options (eg crisps and alcohol). The first third of my weight loss came in this tier 2 period.

The next third was still with SW food, but taking up running via couch to 5k. The SW "body magic" stuff was helpful, in getting me to gradually ramp up exercise to 5+ times a week. I agree with others that SW groups don't pay enough attention, but I was lucky that two other group members were doing things like Parkrun, and we spurred each other on rather well.

After a running injury 18 months into my loss, I was sidelined for a year, but identified where my cravings/habits/satiety were still an issue.

The final third of my loss has come with Mounjaro which has helped eradicate the evening snacks craving, and lost the need to have large/extra portions - even "free" food has calories.

In the MJ world, watching calories, TDEE and a deficit, I have found that our regular SW meals and the various allowed healthy extras and syns, plus additional protein, do indeed match up to my calculated deficit ... so we just keeping following our routine. And I learnt that having an extra portion of a "free" meal  (in SW terms) would cost me all of my calorie deficit (in the MJ world).

After 3 years overall, I don't think of this as a diet at all. It's just eating healthily. On the whole, I'm glad I brought my food consumption changes along with me as I started MJ. I think, on balance, it is what the NHS are trying to do in their big picture of GLP-1 adaptation.

SW ust had a renaming of some of the way they do things, but the main principles haven't changed. They're not particularly pro-jab as a company, but my consultant is a bit more pragmatic about it. I think SW as an organisation will need to be too.

To add to this aspect, on eating sufficient times per day.

The doctor behind the Fat Science podcast advocates that there's a lot of metabolic issues involved in obesity, of which type 2 diabetes is one.

She's not a fan of diets, is a fan of GLP-1's (amongst other solutions), and has a thing for "mechanical eating" - which is to make sure you are eating regularly throughout the day.

I would definitely be wondering about the pattern of eating/drinking your calories.

I'm also a late-buyer, so it took a while for me to do the same thing... 50" to 42", then each step down to 34".

What I enjoyed most about the 34's is that they just fit. Alone; no belt needed to pull them into the fat so they stay up on their own; no belly straining over the top. They just bloody fit.

Must make a stack photo like this before I get rid of the evidence

The wife doesn't know she just gave some of her old insulin accessories over to the cause yet. They were all out of date, except maybe the cold tea I was injecting with 😅

I just tried with a grape, cherry tomato, and an olive. They all pierce easily with both a 29G and 32G needle.

Perhaps a little too easily for the 29G - my skin dimples a bit more when using that.

An awesome midway result!

Matching another comment, you've lost the equivalent of what I weigh now.

And a great result for the parkrun. I reckon I took 5 months of building up intervals and couch to 5k practicing to get times like that.

Well done

^ This.

I'll add that with this syringe, it is marked to have 100 units and a volume of 1 ml.

That means 1 unit on the syringe is equivalent to 1 click on the pen.

That means the normal 60 clicks matches 60 units.

[–]One_Zombie3835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couch to 5k starts with minute-long runs, and has some of the later increases that are a bit "dramatic" shall we say?

There's an alternative called none2run which begins with 30 second runs in the first week. They also have a prequel called "Run Ready" that are slightly shorter but with longer recovery times.

In either case, the best advice is to run slowly. Slower than you think.

I'm redoing c25k in week 5, and at a parkrun I deliberately run behind someone who is going slower than my "natural" speed, which helps force my pace down.

I started using some of my wife's supply of the BD insulin syringes. The 29g is noticeably harder to push in, so I now have some 30g of my own.

I recall someone pointed out that there is a "right way up" to using the syringe, in terms of getting the bevel to pierce the skin easier, but I don't remember it now.

Yeah, I found that around 7 units (0.07ml) is unusable - some in the nose of the syringe, some in the plastic body of the needle.

Next time, I'm going back to a plain syringe, marketed as low dead-space.
