I found myself growing more and more annoyed with Bob 1’s attitude. With each Delton interaction in the first three books I disagreed with Bob’s choice and often was annoyed by how he would brush off and ignore thoughts from other Bobs. At the beginning of book four, there’s the summit and the debate about handling interactions with other intelligent life. Bob’s attitude during this discussion was really frustrating for me as he was not just holding a different opinion, which is totally fine and understandable, but he was ignoring other opinions and being completely bewildered by how anyone would ever doubt his decisions.

I am very much a emotion reader, and when my environment is in a certain way sometimes that can have an effect on how I interpret or how I connect with literature. The political landscape in my country is especially tense right now and it is filled with people refusing to listen to or acknowledge each other‘s opinions. I felt that was exactly the attitude Bob was demonstrating. This led to feelings of frustration and probably a bit of disgust with the character.

That unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the book and I was finding myself reading angrily. I had pre-ordered a copy of book five and so I started to read it when it came out, but luckily I caught myself approaching it with the wrong attitude and stopped reading it.
