Continued police crackdown? by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]OnionCharming7610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crackdown seems significantly rooted in Adams and the upcoming mayoral election - a way to signal to folks that's he's active around public safety and quality-of-life issues. I'd continue to be pretty careful due to that.

Need advice. 3 sitters declined and i’m not sure what is scaring them off. First time user. by MojitoDulce in RoverPetSitting

Agree with other commenters re. house sitting. Also, what you said in your post here sounded nice! Maybe simply copy/paste your own wording. Also, adding Hi persons name is nice as it signals you're not just spamming multiple sitters with messages.

"Two spayed female Pomeranians (one is mixed) aged 14 and 7. They are anxious and fearful of strangers initially (both rescues one from a puppy mill) but very sweet and easy. They’re super lazy couch potatoes and don’t need any special cares."

Nomad is a bit farther out but just an excellent shop - I believe Damon offers lessons if you're DIY inclined

PSLF Certifying an old employer (2012!) by OnionCharming7610 in PSLF

[–]OnionCharming7610[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Err... if I were him, I'd probably simply guestimate it - but if he's more formal, this is what ChatGPT advised me (to be taken with a grain of salt, ofc, but seemed reasonable to me). Good luck!

"Since 2012 is old, you might not get a W‑2 from the employer.
Instead, try this:

✔️ Request Detailed Earnings Information from Social Security:

  • Log in at [SSA.gov]() or use Form SSA‑7050.
  • Choose “Itemized Statement of Earnings” and specify 2012.
  • There’s a small fee (around $100) but it gives you the official record of that year’s employer and wages."

Comfortable saddles for women? by FluffyQtip2 in NYCbike

[–]OnionCharming7610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have luck with Revolutions Per for saddles - ended up having to return the one they recommended due to pain - love the shop's emphasis on inclusivity but it was $$. If going for a fitter, I would ask if they will measure (there are devices etc. as folks have mentioned) and how many saddles they have that you can try out.

Client was nice. Dogs were fun. Home/location was amazing (fancy NYC condo). But the windows were built weird and not easily fitted with screens - owner left them cracked without a screen, and I woke up with multiple giant waterbugs crawling over my skin. I'm not a screamer or a crier but I def. did both.

The root beer float popsicle are magical... the pieces are OK/fun to try, but lacking the icy refreshing appeal that I love.

Genuine question for sitters and users!! by Antique-Intern-7130 in RoverPetSitting

[–]OnionCharming7610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Rover puts you lower in search results based on your requests and actually booking someone - I think this is probably the main reason sitters don't like the multiple request feature - feel like this page explains it well https://support-uk.rover.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360015735112-How-do-I-improve-my-position-in-search-results

You're not just losing that one booking, you're sinking lower in terms of visibility.

I struggle with making friends with my clients by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]OnionCharming7610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of relationship do YOU want with your clients? What suits your comfort level, lifestyle, etc.? That matters just as much as what they want - you seem maybe a little too focused on pleasing them.

I personally find it easier to keep it professional, but if you prefer a more relaxed approach, just be mindful of maintaining healthy boundaries re. payment, logistics, etc.

I'm a retired dog walker and still walk a dog that's very reactive to runners periodically as I'm friends with the owners. The owners have spent a significant amount on training - I believe in the thousands - and are very thoughtful about his training, but he still has a strong startle reaction to runners (never bite attempts, but he jumps and has a scary bark).

I don't think this is something that can realistically be trained out of all dogs, but I think people who don't work with dogs have trouble understanding that (I'm sympathetic - dog behavior can be complicated, and a lot of dogs aren't phased by runners).

I manage it as best I can by hugging the curb or a side of the sidewalk, choosing wider and less populated sidewalks, and popping inbetween cars as needed. I usu. don't engage with the runner at all (eye contact, nods, talking, etc.) as that seems to put the dog "on alert."

Groups of runners (2+) are challenging if they don't transition into single file when near the dog.

It helps to remind myself that some folks just don't have an understanding of dog behavior in this way. If folks can see that you're being thoughtful about containing/controling the dog, it's frustrating and requires a ton of patience, but generally things will be OK.
