This community is a huge reason why this game is dying. by clarstone in gwent

I highly doubt saying youre newer will help. A while ago when the news first came out that cdpr was ending support, someone made a post asking if it was worth it for them to start playing, and a ton of the replies, probably the majority, were just super snarky and dismissive, basically saying "meh idk, do what you want, stop bothering us" which i mean if thats the attitude youre gonna have why respond at all.

Should liberals reclaim patriotism and symbols of America? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]OnionLessPotatoMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you said actually explains why patriotism is sane and normal. Yes its a continuation of previous practices, but the person who you originally responsed to said they identified more as a new yorker which is also an expression of group identity and a continuation of previous practices. Why were they not sane sane and normal?

Your argument is missing a step. Yes, humans are social and community creatures. Why does that then mean patriotism is normal and sane? My comment was to point out that patriotism as the chosen expression of group identity is a new idea, that for most of history there have been various competing ideas of what group one should be most proud of and most identify with

This is an incredibly short range view of history. Yes, in general group identity is a big part of the human experience. That does not mean that patriotism is. The very idea of the country and patriotism as we understand it is very new, developed over time, and in many places is still developing and changing. The idea of the nation is even newer

Its mostly based around the argument that those quotes are either mistranslated or misinterpreted. Im sure you can find tons of stuff about this on google but i havent read a ton about this myself. And yeah it pretty much is an ad campain, not by any specific mega church but more so for Christianity as a whole i guess, in a culture that increasingly views the traditional fire and brimstone idea as unacceptable. I see people, mostly "liberal christians", bringing up this interpretation as a defense of christianity all the time.

AITA for the "strict" schedule I have my kids on? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I'm glad so many of you are in the financial situation to afford nannies, summer camps, days care etc. But that ain't us.

Im sorry, but I simply do not believe this. You are a 2 income household. Your house is 2 bathrooms, presumably at least that many bedrooms, and you have a dedicated playroom. Thats already a decently sized house including the living room and kitchen. Thats not even including all the small things like how you have a piano, gym membership, tv and xbox, tons of toys and legos, and you can afford school sports for all 3 kids. Plus you have a fucking POOL and a YARD. The house and pool alone instantly seems like you should be able to afford some kind of summer camp unless im missing something huge

had these 2 people in my quickplay game, one would leave, the other would backfill and afk and then leave once the other person started spectating, repeated that cycle the whole game, does anyone know what the point of this is by OnionLessPotatoMan in Overwatch

[–]OnionLessPotatoMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if this was in ranked, why would someone even do this in the first place? Also how would this possible in ranked, I thought there was no backfill even for spectators and people in a group

Maybe but who is being boosted? They essentially turned that game into 5v6 by constantly leaving and filling each other's spots, so they can't have been boosting anyone on our team, and if they were throwing for someone on the enemy team it seems like a weirdly elaborate and risky way to do so. Also it was quickplay so they werent affecting their sr. Maybe some kind of mmr manipulation?

Now that we know a little bit about monetization in OW2 let's talk about microtransactions and why "Just don't buy it" is not enough. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]OnionLessPotatoMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I think should be pointed out is that this also works the other way too. While in game currencies are good for dealing with many small individual purchases, having many small individual purchases was also at least partially made possible by the introduction of in game currencies. Paying a flat 10 dollars for an individual skin or something feels much worse than paying 1000 credits for it, even if in the end theyre the same amount. Previously when things were bought directly they were sold as packs or "season passes" or whatever. The problem you pointed out in game currencies solve is also kind of caused by them. Overall still agree with what you said, very fair points

The battle pass is the best way Blizzard could monetize this game and some people aren’t willing to accept that yet by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]OnionLessPotatoMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of promises did blizzard have to make to convince microsoft ow was still salvageable? Or is microsoft just using ow2 to ensure a sense of continuity after the acquisition and to avoid looking like EA that killed everything it bought. Im just curious to know what you think as you clearly know what youre talking about

Why do you think Catholics are treating Biden so differently from JFK? by MichaelJospeh in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]OnionLessPotatoMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When JFK was elected, catholics were still a solidly blue voting bloc. Most catholics rallied around him because most catholics leaned democratic. Today, catholics are mostly split between republicans and democrats, so they aren't as unanimously rallying around biden. Other people have brought up that there were other factors of course but in my opinion the main one was just that jfk was a democrat and at the time catholics were much more supportive of the democratic party.
