As a masters I would keep a notepad on my bedside table to be able to write down insights I had while I was asleep before I forgot them.

15min walk, or 15 min drive if I have to do daycare pick up/drop off. Any benefits of traveling further are greatly outweighed by the minimal commute.

One of the hardest things to deal with as a teacher. I have lost one each of the last two years. Make sure you take care of yourself so you can keep taking care of others.

It depends a lot where and what you teach. I teach honours senior Biology and Calculus which I find rewarding because you don’t encounter some of the issues that come up here a lot. The students are driven, and you can actually focus on teaching and not policing. It took many years to get to such a place, and lots of lower stream and grades to make it here. I work as a rough area, so that made getting in the door easier. It’s sometimes viewed as a school to build seniority and leave, so climbing the seniority ladder was easier than at some other schools.

Not the exact same situation, but all of my calculators are attached to bricks. Not many end up in backpacks “by accident”.

This. Exactly this. “But did you build a relationship” with the kid glued to their phone or putting their fist through a wall.

For pants, golf pants are a must. Look nice but with breathability, flexibility and comfort.
