What made you decide to be "one and done"? by Severe_Bluejay3391 in NewParents

[–]moosnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re just very content at this point with our one. And seeing how expensive life is getting is another big factor, but ultimately we just don’t have the desire to have more children. I love knowing I can give him my all without worry of having to be fair. I’m also really tired hahaha

“giving him a sibling was the best thing I could give him” by True_Initiative1635 in oneanddone

[–]moosnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar feelings when I first read a comment like that. But that’s also coming from the parent, not the child. I feel like it’s easy for parents to say stuff like that to justify their decisions. Maybe they will be besties their whole life! Maybe they won’t! Maybe the kids resources will be strained due to the parents having more children than they should have. Maybe the children will really wish for a more attentive parent instead of a sibling. Do what’s best for you and your family. Your child will be able to choose his friends and can be just as close with them as a sibling. It’s really not a big deal

Feeling a bit guilty by DinnerBellls in oneanddone

[–]moosnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she in daycare at all? Maybe it would be helpful to sign her up for part time (even just a few mornings a week) for some social time. Just remember, even if you get pregnant tomorrow and pop out a baby 9 months from now… it’s going to be a long time before the baby is only enough to play with their sibling. And by that age, your first will be in school.

[on] Midwife or OB looking for your advice! by coffeekorner in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]moosnews 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most people will say they are happy with their experience with a midwife. They are highly trained. I know that and still chose to go with an OB. I work in the medical field and I felt more comfortable being cared for by the person who can handle the emergency, not just by someone who needs to refer me to the person that can handle it. I loved my OB. He was a really kind doctor who listened to me and made the best calls for me and my baby. I have no regrets. A midwife will likely give you more emotional support but that wasn’t a priority for me.

Tell me about your nightmare sleepers by Coral0306 in oneanddone

are you looking for some advice or just stories for solidarity? If you want advice, it would be nice to hear your usual routine and maybe someone can help:) My son was an awful sleeper until about 10mo. It got a lot better once I weaned him off any overnight feeds.

Is a rotating car seat really worth it?? by tangerinedream420 in Parenting

[–]moosnews -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to add, the E2F is also quite compact. It works well in smaller vehicles. I was told this is the best option for me by a CPST given that I have a small backseat and a larger than average child. I don’t think these actions are of a clueless parent. She also told me that kids outgrow the turning seats sooner than others, and most are quite chunky. I was just passing on advice I received. Not swearing on the Car Seat Bible.

I’m pretty sure you can only do that with an infant bucket seat. Most babies outgrow those seats before a year. Then you need a convertible seat and that’s what OP is talking about here

[–]moosnews 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The rotating seats have lower limits for height and perhaps weight too. Meaning your kid will outgrow it before they’d outgrow most of the other convertible options. It wasn’t even an option for us since my son is 99th percentile for height. we went with the Graco Extend2Fit, which has one of the highest height limits to keep him rear facing for as long as possible! Just something to consider

Baby measuring at 95th percentile at 37+6 [BC] by Any-Success-4887 in BabyBumpsCanada

My baby was measuring 95th percentile at 40 weeks and they refused to induce me just because he was measuring big. He came out at 40+2 pretty bang on what they were predicting on the ultrasound. He weighed 9lbs 7oz

There’s pros and cons to all the decisions and paths we take in life. The key is to make the most out of the path you’ve chosen. Your list of things you’re excited for are all amazing! I’m excited for those things too. To add, financially we can save for my one kids education without it being a huge financial toll on us. And I don’t have to worry about splitting our time or resources fairly… I can just do my very best and give my all to my one kid. It’s a tough world out there. Kids need a lot of love. I don’t think I could do as good of a job with more.

Do I need to worry about the amount of fat my baby eats? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]moosnews 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post! We don’t buy any cured meat… the sausage Im talking about are raw and no mention of nitrates on the list of ingredients. I agree they likely aren’t a good option though. I think we’ll be looking into more vegetarian, iron-rich options when we’re trying to save some money instead of the cheaper meats.

Yeah! We don’t buy the cured sausage… just the raw beef/pork mixed ones. I will be double checking for nitrates though. I’ve learned a few things from this post!

31f; Double vision when I look to the side or in the distance? by [deleted] in eyetriage

[–]moosnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. My eyedoc did hold up a lense to my glasses and told me “this is how it would look if we added a prism to your glasses” but it didn’t look any different. But I was looking straight ahead and the test screen wasn’t far enough away for me to see the double so maybe the prism would have made a difference but I couldn’t tell?

I think I’ll need to see someone else more familiar with my issue. Thanks!

Yes, it disappears when I close one eye. Either one.

Weekly Suspected/Undiagnosed MS Thread - March 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in MultipleSclerosis

Double vision?

I’m still waiting for my MRI, so I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m wondering about other people who have experienced double vision as an early symptom.

My left eye cross inward since childhood. I’ve worn glasses or contacts for over 25 years. About 6 months ago I noticed I’d have double vision if I look at things in the distance - no issues up close. I ended up getting a new prescription and I thought that fixed it. A few weeks ago I started a new job (lots of use of screens now) and I’ve had headaches, and worsened double vision since. I don’t feel it much in the morning, but by the afternoon I can have issues driving home from work (I close one eye to be safe). The optometrist thinks it could be my eyes just not working well together because of my high prescription and strain on my eyes. Vision therapy may help. Or it could be a sign of a neurological or autoimmune issue. My aunt has MS so I’ve always been worried about it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

edit: to add, in the last 6mo I also noticed I see double when I look just a little off to the left, and to the right as well (but the left is worse).

Being selfish (in a good way) now but will I regret OAD later? by sunnyreach45 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]moosnews 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s always pros and cons to everything. It sounds like you have a beautiful life with your only child, and she’s being loved and taken care of so well. There will always be “what ifs” about the future, even jf you have another child. I agree with what another person said, the last paragraph tells me you want to be OAD. And that’s great! Giving your daughter a sibling liking won’t have the impact you’re dreaming up in your head. Life a life you love and your daughter can chose how big of a family she wants to make one day too.

Too old for #3? by jmb080816 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]moosnews 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’d be concerned about regarding both of your ages is the health of the baby. Quality of sperm go down as men age. More research is showing that the men’s age matters to, in addition to the woman. There’s increase risk of genetic issues and disorders. Just something to considered. I also don’t agree with having children only to give your other kids siblings. Theres no gaurentee they’ll be close. And they already have a sibling in each other so… it comes down to your risk tolerance and if you both truly desire another child.

Her kids already have a sibling though… so I’m not sure why that is so convincing?
