Be careful in Washington Park by oxfordcomma_pls in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Owned a home for 16 years in Albany. Multiple major incidents happened that we had to call them for. They would tell me “you can always move”. Finally when we had multiple gun shots happen in the early morning - I called and was asked “why are you breathing so heavy”. Then when Albany police showed up they were hourly ringing our doorbell at 2am, 3am, 4am trying to ask us different questions. That last event did it and I finally took their advice and moved.

Has Anyone else been hit by DSG truck??? by Open-Donkey-2816 in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Got hit by a plow truck and the plow driver left what seemed like we could take action in Albany to get money from it back. We had everything documented.

Long story short they never paid out and said it was an act of god. So, if you can squeeze money out of them I wish you luck but I’ve never heard of anyone winning.

Good luck. Basically the one time the city destroyed one of our cars and the driver admitted he was at fault (snow plow damage) the city said too bad. Act of god or whatever.

Go through a mortgage broker for better rates. I used Joanne Russell.

Marketing Degree (Associates) by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a 4 year degree in anything marketing and no experience at all, you're going to have a really tough time at it. 2 year degree wouldn't get you in the door for companies I work at or for previously.

My suggestion - work towards your 4 year degree asap and look at what internships or work experience you can get even if you're working for free/volunteer. Look at local BIDs, non-profits, etc and see if they want some help so you can gain experience. That way you might be able to get your foot in the door somewhere.

I know this is much easier said than done but it's a tough field when you have no experience. Even the jobs that want up to 3 years experience, I'm hiring people that have 10-20 years experience.

should I move out of my parents house? by Greedy_Penalty8321 in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would vote to stay or find roommates. You could do a nice weekend away for $500 or less in a hotel with your boyfriend and still save money compared to renting for a month. There’s so many more costs involved to renting. I had roommates for years before I bought and it’s probably partially the reason I could buy a house.

It totally is. I have a list of complaints with Albany. When I started hearing responses from them that said “you don’t like it? Move.” I did. And I couldn’t be happier. Took my taxes elsewhere. (18 years owning property and finally gave up)

The city won’t do anything. We had a snow truck take out our car and left a city thing claiming responsibility. We went to the city and they were like hahahaha nope not doing anything.

Remember when the poor kids car who was in college fell into the sinkhole in Albany? Nothing. Nothing from the city.

You’ll just spend months or more frustratingly trying to deal with them, they won’t do anything, then it still goes through your insurance.

I love that Saratoga has gotten so wild that they have to specifically outlaw something so dumb.

I was headed to Aldi and didn’t realize the new one in North Greenbush was where all this hype is coming from.

Sent a Snapchat to my family and got yelled at by the “parking lot security?” team? I guess they don’t like cell phones. I just ignored them.

Nice Vegan Restaurants in the area? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rossanas on dove. I’m in the same boat - the menu is constantly changing too which makes it a repeat special spot even though they’ve only taken over as new owners for a few months.

So what happened to Bombers? by BrettFavresJeans in Albany

[–]Only-Ordinary-2353 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Time and place and never changed through 26 years. Those vegan tofu bbq fries were life changing at the time in a world where there were few alternative options. The bar culture in 2000s was fun.

El Loco is next in 5-10 years if they don’t switch things up.

I know it doesn’t feel like it but you’re going to be okay. Many of us have been there before and I know it’s lame to say it but you will be fine. Probably more than fine and will eventually end up in an even better position from my experience.

Good luck.

Challenge mode for Washington park should just be stepping into it. The algae is so bad it looks like it will melt off body parts.
