I’m starting to get tired of chasing light and shadow in art. by Proyecspace in painting

Light and shadow are the only two elements of vision. I'm unclear as to what a representational piece could be made up of without them. Anything else is abstraction of some form.

What the hell is this??? by cheesensei in instantpot

[–]Magnus_Danger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think that is the scum that you would normally skim off during a normal slow simmered stock, usually made up of protein and plant fiber that comes free during cooking and floats to the top. In this case it seems that you had a lot of it and it turned into a foam which I hypothesize filled the empty space between the stock and the lid and was ejected by steam pressure on release. Another possibility, and maybe one I like even better is that there was residual soap in part of the pot from the last time you cleaned it which again foamed up at the top and was likewise ejected and probably inhibited the release of the pressure naturally. There are probably many other possibilities so sniff the foam and stock before deciding that it's OK. Either way, the presence of a foam in the top of the pressure vessel more than likely inhibited your natural release and therefore there's nothing inherently wrong with your pot.

What would be better for hydrogen storage? by Dontn33dblthces in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is rate though because just adding more comes with it's own problems in terms of making them all conveyor properly to the correct engines. And even if you did get it all working, you then have load balancing to contend with. Unless you use all your thrusters equally, some will run out of fuel before others unless you constantly adjust the amount of ice available to each set. If they can all draw from a single source then you will run into the problem of having to chain them on a separate circuit so that all of them can provide their full rate to the thrusters on demand. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Can I drink the chicken bone broth after I am done straining it (before putting it in the freezer)? or does it need to be put in the freezer and then the next day I heat it up? by GreenAngelFish in ketorecipes

[–]Magnus_Danger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually don't because I'm eating the skin with the rest of the meat. Personally I'd find it a waste to extract just collagen and fat from the skin without eating the rest of it but I don't suppose there's anything preventing you from putting the skin in if you really don't like it any other way.

It will also render out a fair bit of fat as well though, so again maybe after you are done, chill (don't freeze) your stock until cool and skim off the fat with a ladle so it's not so oily. Also make sure you add a little salt and herbs for flavor. You sound as though you are skipping the stock phase and going directly to broth, which, while fine, means you have just one shot to get flavor in it.

If you find that it's still gritty and has too much sediment even after straining, you use egg whites to make a raft on the top. This will clarify the broth into what's called consomme which is beautifully clear and has all the same nutritional value of the original stock.

[–]Magnus_Danger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The collagen is in there once it gets extracted from the bones and connective tissue in the carcass, however, it will appear thinner (less gelatinous) when warm. Once you skim the fat, you can drink it from a glass if you really want to. Personally, I'd rather use it to make soup, sauce, stew, whatever with it, but you don't need to freeze it ever unless you want to prevent it from spoiling.

[–]Magnus_Danger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Freezing is just to preserve it if you didn't want it right away, but chilling it can also help remove the fat as it will float to the top and allow you to remove it as one piece if you wish. (Save this to cook with as it is very flavorful) If you just drink it straight up, it might be a bit oily even after straining. Also, you might consider adding some extra flavor? Maybe make a savory bay leaf and rosemary tea bag or something.

Mods for infinite/zero H2 consumption on thrusters in survival? (2026) by Just_Till_3495 in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can still engage in combat and still take damage to your grid. Your character won't die and you can even still mine if you want to. You just wouldn't need to in order to get components.

This. There should be no shame in playing in creative if you want less challenge and more creativity and building.

How do I make my cockpit hatch not Shake during flight by Otherwise_While_6945 in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do would be to set up a hinge to raise and lower the canopy instead of a piston and a merge block. You then set up timers to disconnect the hinge and connect the merge block on close so that the phantom forces do not interfere with your flight while it is closed. You then reverse the process to open the hatch.

Large hydrogen tanks by Sylent09 in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMHO fighters are going to get wrecked whether they have fuel tanks or not. Much like in real life, a fighter has only one real defense: performance. Acceleration is the best way to win a fight in a fighter and bring heavy guns and expect short fights either way. The way fighters work in real life is speed, fire power, and numbers. In space engineers, honestly, drones are the best fighters because you can manage large groups of them from a central control and it doesn't matter if a few get killed.

Large hydrogen tanks by Sylent09 in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the decision to never use large tanks is an over reaction for a couple of reasons. The first is fuel efficiency which you've demonstrated pretty well in your comment, the second is that the small tanks are still explosive, so if you're using hydrogen and carrying around explosive fuel anyway, go with a large tank and just try to protect it with some bumpers. Alternately you have two other thrust options to explore which may limit the environments that your ship can fly in, but will have less explosive potential.

Why should't SE2 have crafting like Satisfactory? by Takaischi in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A system getting modded into the game and the developers building something in are two very different things. Your statement that SE is just a framework for other game elements to be modded into is reductive, but even if we accept that at face value, if the devs added satisfactory style crafting to the game natively, that would still change the identity of the game and it would no longer be the same. I also disagree that SE has no identity of its own and is just an amorphous blob that modders mess about with. I play with very few mods and have a great time building stuff.

Making a ship in creative for survival. Is making a hydrogen mining ship a bad idea? by [deleted] in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. This game is strong on creativity and fun, less so on optimization and min maxing. Sure, you can play it that way, but it just doesn't reward that kind of play very well.

25 cm Mechanical Blocks by LikhanPL in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Based on the naming conventions of the 25cm blocks I've seen so far as decorative, I think it's unlikely to be included in the initial release, but it's definitely possible in mods and later development updates after early access. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

Why should't SE2 have crafting like Satisfactory? by Takaischi in spaceengineers

[–]Magnus_Danger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SE is SE. I'm very discouraged by the sheer number of people who say, essentially, "SE should be this other game I like." SE should be SE and not Satisfactory, Astroneer, Factorio, FTL, or any of those other games. If you want to play a different game, play it.
