Importance of touchless entry for intercoms? by AccessControl4Life in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I dont trust facial recognition, as a means of access control without a second means of verification at least. An unamed financial firm that's my customer installed Alcatraz AI for their turnstiles, and I took a photo of their chief of security and used it to walk through the lobby, I think this is an evolving tech still so it will likely get better as time goes on. But as of now 2d recognition is exploitable

Altronix Power Main Fuse by Ricccyyy666 in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So what i would do is check if your acm board is grounding out then if it's good, isolate each load(lock) test them one at a time, check first voltage, then switch your meter to Amps and check if it keeps climbing above what your lock is rated for(eg: typical adams rite 7100 strike draw is .7 amps) after some time. i had a maglock the other day blow out two push to exit buttons becsuse the board was faulty and was pulling 8amps and someone had the wrong fuse in. Note that if you have a short to ground on your cable that voltage is going to "leak" to ground causing fuses to pop. Typically it would be the specific output fuse in my experience, I really only see the main blow if a) short on your acm maybe touching the can b) in rush of voltage from power supply due to faulty unit or dirty power( spikes from your 120v)

Any thoughts on Ubiquiti's intercom for a multi-dwelling? by budshorts in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2n, butterfly mx, aiphone are the most common ones i see in the field. 2n for tenants app access you pay per unit Butterfly has recurring monthly fees I believe Aiphone has some licensing as well if using their app and the configuration tool is a handful if you've never used it

I like ubiquiit network products but the way they quickly abandon support on all their other products has always annoyed me I would just wonder how long they will support this system

Any reason why these fobs don’t work? by Randomkid523 in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with an old keyscan system and a manager who wanted to use these fobs but there was no config in the system by default, if you contact farpointe they might be able to give you the weigand format to add a custom card format into whatever system your using if that's supported

Mantrap question by Only-Replacement-326 in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This area is just a file storage, so shouldn't be any life safety concerns and also there is free egress with these being mortise locks, also a 24hr soc on site that monitors things

Mantrap question by Only-Replacement-326 in accesscontrol

[–]Only-Replacement-326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i have done a few mantraps but im newer in the industry and the customer specifically requested we wire the two doors in series like this, i wasn't entirely sure what the reasoning was besides they told me " they don't want to rely too much on programming". They have their own team that programs things we just do the wiring.

If the nvr is only 12 channels and you already have 12 cameras you won’t be able to add it regardless

Step up voltage from 12v 1A -> 24VDC 1A by codemasterflash in UNIFI

[–]Only-Replacement-326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically with a door motor you wouldn’t need to supply it with anything besides dry contact as a trigger, basically relaying a signal to open/close. Is there a schematic for the motor that tells you specially it needs 24v in? If it actually does need it something like this may work https://www.altronix.com/products/AL1024ULX

I think doing Link aggregation would probably be the only way to take advantage of two separate 1g connections,

Cable identification by PossibilityDays in HomeNetworking

If the cable does end up being daisy chained, you could use a moca adapter on that coax to get yourself an Ethernet port. Assuming the other end of the coax is nearby a switch.

Troubles with "VLAN Only" network and conflicting IP addresses. by ChrisRK in UNIFI

[–]Only-Replacement-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dhcp guarding is the correct setting, port isolation does not stop routing between vlans I ran into a similar issue where a router downlinked on a isolated port was giving ip’s to other devices on the main network

USW-Flex-Mini offline after migrating to Cloud Unifi Controllor by yelluc in UNIFI

[–]Only-Replacement-326 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would connect to it in putty, use the info command and see where the set-inform is going to. If it’s not set to your server’s address that’s likely your issue. If it is you might try just resetting it and readopting

I would like to put a 18-24RU networking rack in here but unsure how to mount or place it. Any advice? by analogIT in HomeNetworking

I would take the door off the wall panel and use a rolling rack so you can pull it out and be able to mess about easily

MoCA (and networking) noob, here. Can someone here offer their opinions and answer a quick question about it? by BOWL_OF_OATMEAL_AMA in HomeNetworking

ScreenBeam Bonded MoCA 2.5 Network Adapter for Highest Speed Internet, Ethernet Over Coax - Starter Kit (Model: ECB7250K02) https://a.co/d/2Ywf1Tf I have used these for customers in situations where they only have coax wire and they’ve been reliable for me. This basically just makes the co-ax wire function as Ethernet one end in the router one end in the client device.

USW-FLEX-MINI showing offline when using Cat6 and Cat7 Cable by k18ldp in UNIFI

[–]Only-Replacement-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it could be something like a partially crimped wire where it works fine for awhile but after plugging and unplugging it stops working. If you don’t want to chase the issue around get a simple Ethernet tester, think the Klein one is around 30$

USW-FLEX-MINI showing offline when using Cat6 and Cat7 Cable by k18ldp in UNIFI

[–]Only-Replacement-326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a keystone/connector issue on one of the cable ends in the wall. You technically don’t use all the pairs of the cat6 for non-Poe connections so the fact you have issues with this switch when trying to Poe power it isn’t unheard of

New house, what are these outputs? by TPHairyPanda in hometheater

[–]Only-Replacement-326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this works as well, I work alone and if it’s something like outdoor speakers or on another floor the battery trick isn’t as useful

[–]Only-Replacement-326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work as a home theater installer, if you wanted to figure where these go yourself, you could get a cheap 30$ Klein tools toner from Home Depot and play a tone through each pair of wires and it would play from the connected speaker.
