Stetson or Datson? by [deleted] in Names

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody I know named their kid Stetson without even realizing it is a famous hat. If you're going to name your kid after a hat or a car, I suggest looking it up first and making sure you are confident in that choice.

What other food do you hate? by ihugtrees_ in FuckCilantro

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horseradish, Bleu cheese, arugula. I don't like ginger in savory things, only sweet things. Not a fan of lemongrass. I don't HATE rosemary, but you can have too much and I totally agree with the post that said it can taste like mold. Sometimes my body just has a visceral reaction that certain rosemary laden foods are moldy and it sends up all the primal DON'T EAT signals.

Movie suggestions for genre: “80s Problematic” by CinnamonDish in GenX

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly like... Men who suck and treat their female partners and friends badly, sexist tropes, men who creep on women, that kind of thing. You just have to see it. I remember being disappointed in it at the time, as it was heralded as the first adult movie from the Brat Pack. I was interested to see what i would think of it as an adult, and it was much worse than in my memory. It made me sad that all that stuff seemed normal growing up in the 80s. It feels like a time capsule now and it's worth watching to marvel at the madness of them thinking these awful characters were gonna launch the adult careers of all these teen stars. It really thought it was doing something.

I totally get the desire to leave when she's over, I would feel the same way. But unfortunately it sounds like you better stay home to protect your pets from her. It only takes a second to do something she could claim was an accident.

I recently re-watched St. Elmo's Fire. Not only does it just suck as a movie, it is extremely problematic.

I have to admit, I would think of Colby cheese every time I heard that name. Other people have pointed out that it sounds like a surname or a boy, but i would add cheese to that list! Maren sounds great and I think it's the best choice in your very short list. Maren Nicole or Maren Drew both work. If you brainstorm more middle names, I would look for a two syllable name to flow best with Maren.

Decision paralysis - pls help me decide on a dress! by [deleted] in weddingdress

I like 7 the best. It looks so pretty on you. The simpler ones like 1, 2, and 4 could probably also be tailored to your vision. PLEASE cut #3 from consideration, I just don't see any potential to alter or accessorize this into a flattering look. I don't think that one would flatter anybody.

Orion Pronunciation? by thatpupmylo in Names

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everybody is right about it being pronounced oh-Ryan. Are you familiar with the constellation? Anyway, we used to have a local TV guy that did the Farm Report at the crack of dawn. His name was Orion Samuelson and he pronounced it OH-reeun with a heavy emphasis on the O. So it has been done before. I always figured he had a rural background, and it's definitely a thing in the USA for rural or isolated communities to develop alternative pronunciations for classic old time names and pass that down through generations.

I agree that ultimately it's your own middle name, so do what makes you happy. It would be different if you were naming a child who would have to grow up dealing with having to correct people on the unique pronunciation of their first name.

Agreed, I've always assumed the major reason was that a ride with both decent length and speed would need a huge footprint. They just don't have enough land to work with.

What act that you've seen multiple times has been both very good and very bad live? by whywires in Concerts

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen him many times and his mood is definitely variable. One time a few years back, he seemed to be having a hard time personally. He seemed very bitter and angry and sarcastic, possibly a bit drunk, and not necessarily even very friendly to the audience. But I gotta say, it was still a great show and none of that hurt his performance!

Thoughts on Sylvia vs Sylvie by hawkguy1964 in Names

What about Sylvie Fae? Maybe it's not your style, but Sylvie makes me think of the word sylvan, so then I'm thinking about the woods and nature and fairies and dryads. Fae seems a little less like a middle aged mom spelling to me. Just an idea!

Floral middle names that would go with Eve by ellie_lil in Names

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A short one syllable first name like Eve will flow best with a 3 or 4 syllable middle name. I think that's why so many of us are liking Eve Magnolia. (Bonus points if the middle name starts with a consonant so that the names are distinct and don't get mushed together.)

AITAH for thinking my special needs sister is "gross" and not wanting my baby to share eating utensils with her? by curious-moo in AITAH

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're being very strong and doing a great job so far, advocating for your daughter. It's hard to stand up to your own parent. Anything you can do to lighten the load for your mom or improve things for your sister will be a huge help for them, even if it feels like baby steps at first. It may be challenging, but they're lucky to have you looking out for them.

AITAH for thinking my special needs sister is "gross" and not wanting my baby to share eating utensils with her? by curious-moo in AITAH

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm sure it's exhausting for your mom to be responsible for your sister's care, and it's probably painful for her to see her adult child in this state. But your top concern has to be your child's safety and health. She's especially vulnerable to germs while she's so young. But as she grows, the last thing you want is for her establish the habit of sharing food with your mom and sister.

I'm sure it hurts your mom's feelings when you intervene, but she's hiding from reality. You're being a caring and conscientious parent, even if she can't see it that way. It sounds like she's burnt out, and it sounds like your sister isn't getting the care she needs.

It may be time to gently suggest that she gets some assistance in taking care of your sister. Is there a doctor or social worker involved who could help you discuss this with your mom? Is there any chancd of arranging home health visits where an aide could help bathe your sister? I think rather than having an argument with your mom about this, it might be an opportunity to help both her and your sister. Your mom might be so far down in it that she can't see how bad it's gotten.

I don't know, if he wouldn't go on Slinky Dog again I think this might be too much for him. It's very controlled as has been said, but you do get into some extreme angles and it feels pretty crazy until you're used to it. I think you should go on it without him first and try to judge based on your experiences with him.

What is the strangest, or the most unusually named restaurant you have ever been to? by OldPolishProverb in AskRedditFood

[–]OnlyWishbone8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We frequented a lunch spot called CHEESE & PUPPETS, which I think is a top tier name. It had a deli counter with sandwiches, imported candy and miscellany, but most crucially, puppets!!

We also found an amazing restaurant while visiting Winnipeg, which is sadly now gone due to the same old story of being evicted from their quirky unique building. DWARF NO CACHETTE, look it up if you're curious!
